Chapter # 34

Ryan POV:-

‘Oh Lord… where did my emotions lead me?’

Sunlight penetrated through the curtains, igniting our room. I slowly opened my eyes and adjusted my vision.

I let out a yawn, feeling tired and plopped on my elbows. I turned to my side and saw Rebecca sleeping beside me, peacefully.

“Hey…” I whispered.

A smile crept upon my lips when I looked at her. My heart began to beat fast, feeling strange happiness inside me as last night's events came to my mind.

I moved my hand close to her face and tugged the strand of her hair falling on her face behind her ears.

“You are irresistibly pretty, you know?” I giggled.

I kept staring at her, how she sleeps as if she is receiving an immense lull. Curled like a baby and holding me as if her hopes depend upon me.

I began to move my fingers from the side of her face and moved it down gently to her bare shoulder.

“And now… mine.”

I moved the duvets upward to cover her exposed form, the body I claimed last night and moved my fingers back again to her shoulder and traced my fingers over her tattoo.

'Mari-Jane-Acca.' I wonder what that means?

She was snuggling close to me, last night she held close as if all her emotions were meant for me and only I can indulge myself to see that side of hers.

Seems like for the first time, she let herself lose in desire.

She let all the euphoria be bestowed upon her without pushing it away. The image of her flushed face came to my mind as my smile grew wider.

“Rebecca….” I called her softly, caressing her.

She showed emotions she never did and honestly she was so cute when her face was red in embarrassment and how she begged me to take her as my mind began to crave more of it.

I don't know what took over me as I began to yearn for nothing but her and the allure I felt for her was so strong that I couldn't pull myself away.

‘Was it because she is my wife or.. I am feeling something for her?’

What we did, was it right? But, what's done is done.

We cannot back away now and I have no intention of letting her go back to her old self again.

What has taken over me is beyond my understanding but I don't want it to go away.

As I was staring at her, that old woman's words, we met on the first day of our marriage came to my mind,

'Your journey is gonna be beautiful. Neither she can melt the ice of your words nor you can see the pain behind her lies.'

No matter how much I tried, I couldn't shrug off her words as they kept coming to my mind. The ice of my words is melting slowly and the pain of your lies is becoming visible.

“I want to know you. What made you like this?”

But, right now the only dread in my mind is that, if she wakes up she might not be back to her usual cold self.

I don't want her to hide herself again, we can at least be on good terms, I'll even try to love her but please don't become emotionless again.

I caress her cheeks with the back of my palm and murmur to myself,

"Our Unsavory Redemption…"

We started our lives in an unexpected situation, I never thought a day would come where I don't want her to cry anymore-

In fact I want to see her being liberated from her apprehensions.

“Don’t worry, you have me now.” I was about to kiss her forehead but stopped.

My thoughts came to a halt when Rebecca shifted as she stretched her hand out and yawned.

She opened her eyes slowly and looked at me with those narrowed eyes.

“Did you say something?” She asked in bewilderment.

“No.” I continued to look at her with my smile.

“Hmm.” She closed her eyes again as she sat up, holding the covers close to her chest, trying to cover herself.

She ran her hands in her hair and let out a sigh of frustration.

‘Please don't’

I also sat up and greeted her,

"Morning… How are you feeling? Does it hurt? I.. didn’t anticipate you to be a.. virgin." I asked, concerned, worried I might not be too rough considering her first time.

"Since you don't want to forget what happened, I need to talk to you." She said in her usual cold voice.

She was about to get out but I held her arm. She stopped and turned to look at me, I didn't say a word and continued to look at her.

"Let go, Mr-"

She was about to call me by the name I never wanted her to but before she could say anything, I whispered desperately.

"Don't Rebecca… Now that we have taken a step closer, please don't walk backwards."

I slowly let go of her arms and looked at her intently to see her reaction. “Don’t.”

She looked at me with her usual unfathomable gaze and replied slowly in a faint voice.

"In the distance of miles, on a path of thorns… a step doesn't mean anything, Ryan."

"Your path or mine?" I asked which shocked her.

My path to her is not hard as she is explaining but it seems like her path to reach me is a million times harder and more difficult than mine.

She just lowered her head and shook it slightly as a smile crept upon her lips.

"One day…" She began to say and then raised her head and looked at me and completed her sentence.

"You'll drive me insane."

She said it just the way I did back then. A smirk came to my lips when I heard it.

She then stood up and stumbled a little and I immediately asked worried.

"You okay? Does it hurt? Was I too rough?" I asked hurriedly, holding her.

“No, I am fine. Don’t vex.” She replied softly, removing my hands slowly.

“Really?” I asked innocently.

“Yeah.” She passed me a faint smile, assured me and went to the bathroom. I sat there as I began to think about her words; we are miles apart.
