Chapter # 44

We both entered, Mr and Mrs Knight saw us, I can feel the death stare sent to me by Mrs Knight.

“Mama.” Ryan called.

I curled my hands in a fist and inhaled deeply and curved my lips upward slightly with my eyes clouded by my frontage.

“Ryan?” They both stood up and walked to us. A thick tension appeared in the air but it was broken by Mr Knight which was too shocking to me.

He put his hand over my head and patted it and gave me his blessing.

“Bless you, Dear.”

My eyes widened as my chest tightened. My lips curved downwards as a look of grief formed over my face.

His action was unexpected, I never thought he would give me his blessing.

Even Papa hasn't patted my head in the past five years. A feeble feeling of elation rushed in me as I smiled and said politely.

"Good Afternoon."

"Good to see our bride." Mr Knight smiled and pulled his hand back. He then turned to Mrs Knight who was extremely displeased by Mr Knight's action.

"Why are you here?" Mrs Knight asked rudely, closing her arms at her chest.

"Mother, I am home with my wife for the first time." Ryan said. She scoffed and turned away,

"We all know how she deceived all of us." She snarled. If it wasn't for Ryan, I would have retorted back to her.

"Mother, please.." Ryan said, trying to make her calm.

"What?! I will not tolerate that woman in this house even for a second." She said, exasperated.

"That woman has my name attached to hers." Ryan argued and I felt somehow happy that he is supporting me, staring at his handsome features in mesmerization.

"Either her or me then" Mrs Knight asked, growling at him which faded my smile instantly, replacing it with dread.

“What? What are you saying, Mama?” A repugnant expression came to his face as his hand moved to my shoulder, pulling me closer.

“She is my wife, Mama. You can’t say that.” He argued and my heart began to race seeing him supporting me.

“And-” She was about to argue but thankfully Mr Knight cut him off.

"Enough. Ryan go to your room and takes some rest. This is your home, both of you are most welcome here." Mr Knight said authoritatively.

“What do you mean!? No she is not!” Mrs Knight gasped and opened her mouth to argue but he put his hand in the air, stopping her.

"Enough, Sarah. She is the daughter of this place now and I expect you to accept her now." He ordered sternly.

“Hmph!” Sending daggers in my direction, she left furiously.

“You should go, I will see your Mother.” He smiled for our comfort. I opened my mouth to speak but Ryan took me with him.

We went to our room, I walked in first and when he closed the door I complained, "I told you, Ryan."

"Come on Rebecca, bear with it." He said, shrugging his shoulders. Barely bothered about what happened.

"Why are you doing this in the first place?" I asked, even though I know he is doing this for me but still it left an eerie impact on my mind.

"You are my wife, you have to bond with my parents." He reasoned, hiding the real one. I narrowed my eyes at him and put hand on my waist,

"Really? I am married to you, not to them."

"Obligation. " He smirked and winked at me. I exhaled and put my hand over my forehead.

"Seems like my affectation is contagious." I mumbled, disappointed and prayed he would never become like me.

He shrugged his shoulders and sat on the bed, "Maybe." He plopped himself on the bed.

"So you will not tell me the actual reason?" I asked.

"What? There's none." He still said being oblivious. I shook my head and went to the bathroom to freshen up.

When I walked out, he was sleeping so I sighed and sat on the other side of the bed, passing my time.

Later, We were having dinner in silence but then Mrs Knight asked, "How long are you going to live here?"

I gave her a fake smile and replied, "Don't Worry, We will stay just for a few days."

"I am asking about you, not him." This woman is testing my patience now.

I could have given her a million replies to seal this mouth but no.

"He is my husband, he vowed to stay with me so he will not matter what." I replied derisively, smirking victoriously.

“We will see about it.” Mrs Knight's lips curved downward in a frown as I turned my attention back to my food.

“But don’t be disappointed by the outcome.” I smirked, retorting but earning a pleading look from Ryan, I closed my mouth again.

“I hope I won’t be. Baseless bonds won’t last long.” This woman-

I opened my mouth to say something extreme but Ryan held my hand under the table, giving it a tight squeeze to control myself.

A silence came in between by my lack of response and this woman smirked, thinking she won this argument but I burned.

After dinner we went back to our room. I glared at Ryan, opening my mouth to complain about his Mother but he narrowed his eyes apologetically at me.

“It’s for you.” I breathed out, curling my hands in a fist.

“Thanks.” He said sincerely as we didn't exchange any words and went to sleep.

The next day went normal, filled with the taunts of Mrs Knight which I ignored mostly and spent my time without acknowledging her presence.

Since I have a lot of patience so I bore with her but whenever she mentions Ryan, I lose my mind but for him, I swallow my words.

Right now, Me and Ryan are in our room, he is laying on the bed with his eyes closed and I am sitting on the couch using my phone.

I sighed and looked at Ryan and asked sorrowfully, "Do you have to go?"

"Will you miss me?" He asked with a smirk, still his eyes closed. ‘Yes.’
