CHAPTER 16

Elvira planned to end the werewolves' packs in Smallsvile but nobody knows this. She kept it a secret between her and Tim, another alter in her. Tim developed after Sammie disappeared. She has been on therapy and because of that hated her father for that. They took away her friend.

One day she was in the barn playing with a dung beetle she found close to the wall, Tim appeared to her giggling. He's pink and has hair changing. She dropped the beetle and said, "Who are you?"

"You shouldn't be asking me that. We need to kill Alex."

"My dad?"

"Yes, him. He sent Sammie away, right?"

She nudged blankly.

"She sent me here, Elvira. We're gonna be great together."

Before she said anything, Tim jumped into her. Her eyes brightened with sapphire. She laughed and crunched the beetle, then grabbed a rake and walked into the house.

That day she was not successful. Alex wasn't at home and her nightmares increased into shapes, sprites hovering over her, telling her sad stories of how her father killed her mother, showing her Catherine sapping out her real essence, and because of that, she came out better than her.

Tim told her she needed revenge then shapeshifted into a werewolf then a shaggy rat and back to a human with blood dripping down his mouth.

"Elvira, we are one. Your father must die. She cares about politics and power but not you. And you don't have to tell anyone I'm here. Don't trust them."

***

She woke up sweating as she had just come back from a marathon with light. Thunder strikes outside.

"Damn it," she pushed the blanket aside and reached for a book on a stool beside her bed. It's her diary.

September, two

I have been there and I'm here now. I know I have alters and I created them. I'm glad I did. Tim isn't my enemy but here to help me gain clarity…

She dropped the pen and threw the dairy across the room. Andrea just beeped her a message that Catherine is now with Alpha.

"Bitch! She doesn't know I know she's here." She laughed then turned off the light and snuggled in bed.

***

Elvira became aware of her alters when she was eight. She was reading through a journal she found at the library on psychology and the spectrum when she stumbled on a page talking about multiple personality disorder. She tore the pages, took them home, and since then she's been obsessed with psychology. She thinks with it she could become anything, even a god.

Now she sees herself as one. She's on a mission to take over everything.

She woke up again and scribes in another dairy close to her.

Finally, the music will end. Catherine too will be gone.

***

NEWS: The protesters are increasing. Sadly, the masses aren't getting what they need.

***

When Elvira knew she was a twin sister it was her alter Sammie Rhodes who told her. She had been seeing Catherine but never thought of her as a sister. Sammie told her her sister is a wench and they needed to send her away.

Then she cried at nights dreaming of werewolves devouring her bones and sucking her blood. The dreams kept coming even after she got rid of her sister. She made her father know Catherine was bad and killed her cat and wanted to kill her. She cries every time she sees her. She fought friends off at school whenever Catherine was there.

Alex Guero wanted her daughters to be close friends but it's apparent Elvira isn't fine with her sister's presence and it's killing her and hurting Catherine further too. Catherine was later diagnosed as asthmatic and Elvira was diagnosed depressed.

Guero wanted to keep them both but Jenn asked to have one of them over. She just got divorced and needed someone to be with.

"Alex, I'll take her. Don't worry much."

"You know I need to worry, Jenn. I love them both and you know Nina wanted us to have a mansion and play around with her kids. She's not here again." He cried.

"I understand, Alex. She'll be proud of you just like mom did."

"Don't bring that," he thawed. "Take care of her."

***

One night, five years after Catherine left the house, Elvira stood up and went to her father's room. He saw her standing behind the table lamp playing with a doll. He rolled over, "what's it darling?"

Elvira smacked and donned her head. The light fell on her and the lampshade turned darker when she entered it.

"Come over, darling. What do you want?"

She stepped forward, then ran over to him holding something behind her.

Jittering.

"Dad, Sammie, said she needs you."

"Sammie! Who is that?" He looked puzzled.

"Come over."

She ran closer to him then revealed what was behind her. It's a knife. Her father isn't seeing it. She rushed in and stabbed him in the side continuously. Her strength doubled. Guero quickly moved towards the other side of the bed grabbing a blanket. He threw it over her and she fell.

"Daddy, Sammie wants you."

***

She woke up again, removed her clothes, glanced at her breasts in the mirror flanking her bathroom, the light went out and she yelled.

In the bathroom, she danced to Bob Dylan's solo. She dropped herself in the bathtub. Fill it with water then go under.

***

After that night, that never happened again and Guero never spoke to anyone about her condition until Tim appeared. He never heard her speak his name. She nearly killed him at night but he ran into the bunker when he heard her thumping hard on his door. She'd shouted, I'll kill you before he went into the bunker.

***

Nicholas Ola reentered the bower to have a private conversation with the old woman. The brown hound sits still behind the bar looking through solid blooded eyes at the meat dropped to his side. Perhaps he doesn't like it, was the thought on his mind. He walked away from him. He thinks he needs more answers to understand what happened with the body. He knows Alex Guero is not dead but still, he's gone.

At the hospital, no nurse is missing. He spoke with the nurse that saw him last, she said nothing about his whereabouts or knowing anything. Her name escapes his mind now and she's new.

The hound barked, he looked back and saw barks of cinnamon walking into the bower. He looked closely apprehensive, it was the old woman carrying it in.

"You need help with that?" He asked.

"Don't worry, Nicholas. I got this."

"Alright." He said.

"Back then when we were children, the islands were safe. These days fishes aren't breathing well and the corals are dying out. The bower is safe. Plants and nurturing ancient herbs give life."

She smiled, her face smoothen like the wrinkles went away or it's the light falling on her or it's the smile.

"You're a good man, Nicholas but the world is bad. Those protesting are puppets. We need to bring your friend back before it's too late."

"Yes. That's why I'm here. What can we do?"

"His daughter is back. Catherine. You know her."

"Yes. It's been years, I saw her. Heard she's a scientist too."

"I saw that in her eyes. She doesn't even know how I know her. I warned her. She's going to help us. Get in touch with Aiden too."

"That thug?"

"Yes, him. You still don't know his arrogance is a camouflage."

"He nearly shot me last month."

"Did he?"

"No." He said

"Then you should know him. He's never shot the innocent. I bet his werewolf instinct helps him do that. Humans find that hard."

"But innocence is relative. Why do I need to meet him?"

"Just bring him here. That's all for now."

***

The protest continued for another four days. The People want their rights back. The force kept throwing them back. Some have entered the airport. They're saying no plane will fly out of Smallsvile. They know it's them against the elites.

STOP! STOP USING RAIN AGAINST US.

***

The lab:

Alpha's men have gotten the placard and returned it to their lab. They found more evidence from the germ cloud and hope to feed it into a secret pod they have not revealed to Catherine.

***

Sarah came back with lots of books. She managed to bypass the protesters who think anybody coming in from Figma P is here to run an experiment on them. Truth and propaganda are spreading. Another placard, at the airport, had this written on it: TRUTH DOESN'T EXIST. IT'S ALL PROPAGANDA. OURS IS TRUTH.

And a piece of music blaring from a speaker had a chorus saying;

We want the elites to go away!

We want to end them all!

***

Alpha's office

A message beeps in.

"Can I pin you and talk to you every day

Complain about stuff, share my thoughts, tell you about my day and send you random JPEGs and videos. Can I?"

He sat up thinking and at the same time dumbfounded.

"Who might this be? Damien!"
