CHAPTER 36

"What can I do now?" She said slowly in her mind. The cordless pod newly installed in her back makes her sadder because it's sapping her drier. She only wants to read books too but now she's turned useless for herself.

"I can't be in the world like I want to. Everything is turned against me and life is sadder. They are making my brain do things that'll not do naturally. And Catherine's twin sister is supporting them. I never really did anything to them other than that I licked a secret to Alex about what John was doing. I'm here without being here."

She tried moving her body but she couldn't. "Life is a waste now. What am I doing here?"

Someone entered here section. The people dressed in all dark cloaks and held a torchlight. She didn't know who it was because the person didn't reveal his or her face. The person walked up to the cubicle and turned on the light powering her pod. She shouted with shouting. Her voice can't be heard. She started sparkling all over and it seems that's the end of everything for her. The person typed in an instruction. She saw it and shouted again. That instruction was set to a smart contract. It must be executed at a specific time tomorrow. She cried within because they'd been controlling her with that.

After that, the person walked briskly out of the cubicle. She couldn't see his or her face. The person was on a mask and the instruction was deadly.

Maddie was at the door when Elvira walked in to inform John about Catherine's plan.

"Come on sit here," John said and Maddie walked back to his seat.

"I have been having bad dreams these days. I don't know, John. What is happening to my health?"

"You aren't sick. Can we talk about this later? Let's listen to her first."

"Okay. But find a solution to my problem too."

"I'll brother. Have your seat. So what's she up to?"

"I have my eyes on everything they do over there. There are hidden drones and spies working for me. They have a sword and somehow they believe it can stop what's happening if they cut anyone infected with the sword."

"That's the sword of life," Maddie said.

"Yeah. It's been around for over a thousand years. How did she get it?"

"Sam Peterson found it in the bower belonging to Martha."

"Martha Stewart. She was quite a woman but then she's not too powerful for what we have here."

"Will the sword work?"

"Yeah," John said but on someone closer to the sword. I doubt there is anyone in Smallsvile closer to that sword and the healing will only be effective for a while. They still need to find the remedy. We aren't giving them that."

"Better."

"Don't be afraid. We have things in control."

***

"I still don't know what to do. How can I get out of this? How? They are using me. People are dying because of me. I don't want that. This is against my will."

Jenn cried again without being heard. Her voice has been muted. She could only transfer some waves when it comes to communication.

"I need to be free. I never knew this is what ik signing up for. Why me?"

The person walked in again. He or she didn't say anything but turned a nob to forty percent. She whimpered and cried within. Nothing shows on the outside. She is still like a mannequin.

***

At the fortress, a Burial was organized for Alpha. Damien attended and he cried and recited a poem. He doesn't know how to do anything again but poetry. He recited. Nearly cried but couldn't because he can't define his relationship with Alpha. He knows him but he doesn't know if they were close before.

***

Time became slower. Poems became what Damien knows. He read and read and one day he grabbed his gun again. Placed inside his mouth. He closed his eyes and… Opened it again and started reciting 'Daddy' the poem by Sylvia Plath.

***

His eyes became misty like a morning dew. He continued reciting, his voice trembling and it was like his life has nothing more to think about but that moment.

He walked around thinking hard and not knowing what to think but the poem. He looked up and tried mourning better but he couldn't bring himself to it. What does it take to mourn the right way? Is there anything like that?

He continued reciting the poem. Thoughts of his parents became stronger. Though he has been thinking about them but not like today. The poem made everything converge and he felt like drowning. He wants everything to end. He wants to die.

"Daddy, I have had to kill you…" he recited. "I don't know what the world have for me again. I don't know."

He sat down close to nothing but thinking about everything. Everything he longed to understand.

Then he started crying. He wanted to kill himself but he couldn't. He just wished he could end it all just like Plath. He knows his type of werewolf is different. He doesn't care about shared bravery again. He doesn't even wish to transform again and she doesn't want to see anyone again but the boy.

***

Catherine too doesn't know what to do again. She sat back looking through time. She doesn't know what life means again. Does life have meaning before? She sat there thinking and thinking.

Sam stood close to the Bower's gate. He somehow lost trust in himself too. He doesn't know why. Perhaps because they've been toiling to solve the puzzle the elite presented. Perhaps because he misses his boss. He went back inside hoping for what comes next.

Sarah sat in the bunker studying the molecules. She's getting to their foundation. She believes they could solve the problem. She wants to do more and establish her agency. She knows she is a capitalist at heart and one day she's going to own conglomerates.

And for Elvira, continued reading books after books. She's growing her mind while her sister is running around trying to solve problems she doesn't understand. She smiled and continued reading.

"I need to get more books on biochemistry and neuropathology. Also, I need to get another gun.

John walked up to his brother and said. "Maddie, let's make this girl one of us. I'll talk to her about immortality. How are you doing these days? Have you been taking what I asked to be taking?"

"Sure. I took it yesterday and I agree we should bring her closer. Since she's blood."

"That's good. Make sure you take your medicine. The girl is smart. She understands what it takes to execute plans.

"I'll. Let me get going."

"Alright."

CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

When Alpha falls through the window burning with Georgina. They were shouting as they fell. Then before reaching the ground they went missing.

He opened his eyes to a place with only white color and everything was white. He shouted but no one heard him. Then he appeared close to hell because the fire continued burning him as to be fell through occurrences in his life. He tried escaping but a huge officer with a potty officer never returned.

And he didn't see Georgina again. He was holding her right hand when the shockwaves threw them out.

"Georgina. Georgina?" Where are you." In this realm, his voice sounds like that of a child. He doesn't know it but the people listening to him knew. He's not seeing them.

"You are welcome," one of them said. "But what are you doing here?"

"I was in my office before a bomb exploded. I don't know how I got here."

"Are sure you don't know?"

"I don't know."

The voice laughed hard and said:

"You are here for a reason and you shall fulfill that."

"Damn that reason. Take me back to where I came from."

Another voice said: "Man man up. You are from here and you'll be here till eternity."

He fell into a labyrinthine party and nothing was there and their reality broke down into five dimensions.

***

Maddie rushed into John's office sweating.

"You are here. Elvira is going to die."

"What?"

"Where is she?"

"She went to Smallsvile to have a diplomatic talk with those she'll be ruling. What is it?"

"When is she coming back?"

"An hour or two."

"Damn. She's going to die. A missile has been launched from our base by Jenn's smart contract. The perimeter it covers is about sixty percent of Smallsvile.

"Damn it," John stood and grinned. "We need to get her out of that. Where are your men?"

"They've been…"

"Get them to work!" He shouted to make sure you bring her back here.

***

Jenn launched the missile knowing where it was going, knowing she doesn't want to do it but the contract is a must. She didn't even see the face of who sent it. The missile launched and headed to Smallsvile to wipe out about eighty percent of its inhabitants.

It glided through the air at a higher speed. People going about with their businesses in Smallsvile not knowing what's about to happen. Sarah continued checking the molecules. She's becoming happier not knowing something is about to wipe out that happiness. Catherine walked in holding a collection of Yeats.

"Where is Sam?"

"Check that room. Saw him sleeping there an hour ago."

"Alright. Thanks."

"Wait, Catherine. We've not been talking lately. What's happening?"

"I don't know. Perhaps because we've been busy."

"Okay."

***

The missile continued coming towards them. Without knowing. The stations have been restricted but surprisingly the news can up.

A missile launched from Batök is entering the atmosphere of Smallsville…

If you're in Smallsvile run for your life...

***

"Stop that missile," John shouted at the commandant.

"We are on it, sir."

He quickly called Elvira. His heart was beating harder. It's been a long he felt that way and now it came back. Elvira must be special to him. It takes that to win his heart.

"Darling, hope you are safe. You saw the missile right. It's going to strike but please make sure you are okay. I will call you back as soon as possible."

"I'll try," Elvira said and quickly dropped the phone. She ran out of the hotel towards her car and quickly got in. She drove faster looking for the nearest escape.

***

Damien saw the news at the pub. He sat there drinking. People around him ran out. He stayed in with the boy. They are writers and writers don't run from war. He smiled deeply for the first time in days. He enjoyed the feeling and he feels it should be replicated with a poem but mostly what he does now is reading and analysis. Life is a place of thorns and stones and bullets and guns and arrows. People should embrace their demons.

"If this is the time then it's great. Let me read Sylvia Plath." He opened the book and started reading from the poems.

"This is the light of the mind, cold and planetary…"

He glanced back at the boy. "Are you following? I am feeling the poem. Don't know if it's the same for you. Though it can't be the same."

"Yes, sir."

"The moon is no door. It is a face in its own right…" He got to a point where the poem triggered more. He looked at the boy, his eyes bulge and he was listening with all his heart.

The boy started crying. "I don't want to die. I don't."

"We are all going to die. Come on. It has a right upon us."

"The poem is heavy and I don't know what to say. I just hope the world doesn't end up ruining us. I hope we will get to enjoy more poems."

"You are right. We love mentioning death but we didn't want to die. Death has been shaping everything."

***

Elvira continued driving. Everything continued happening. She wanted to get to the airport faster but she met…

Minutes later, the missile reached them…

***

News

A ballistic missile just dropped at Smallsvile. The people are running around… The elites are still not saying anything. What is happening?

Why on Earth will that happen by mistake…

Was it miscalculated as said?

What should be done to stop this?

***

Jenn Geuro cried. "I'll make sure I found who did this. I'll surely do that. They don't know I'm gaining control of my concoiusness. With that I can turn things around. I will surely do it. Martha Stewart and Alex Geuro are gone. I will see what I can do."
