Chapter Twenty Nine

Today, it's different. I'm loving this training. I feel very interested now in fighting —maybe it's my purpose. I love this and if love to do it for the rest of my life. And my comforter, I think it's the best for me. He's harsh but it's like that's the only way I can be trained. I'm stubborn —yes and I can't be trained leniently. I love him and I'm proud of myself. I craved to make him proud also.

“Katrienair, the training has just began. It's high time you learnt how to control your gifts and use them in a battle. ” He paused to watch a bird flying in the sky. “ Stop that bird, Katrienair. ”

I looked at him, disoriented—there was no way I could do that.

“ There no way I can stop a bird. ”

He was silent. Another bird flew by, he raised his hand to the sky and the bird hung in the air. Wow! I felt some kind of shame —I should have tried at least. It might be magic but I have magic also.

Some moments after, he left the bird and addressed me.

“ Nothing is impossible katrienair. You can control nature —even the beings in it. You can control Luna, can't you? ”

The way he pronounced her name—it sounded strange. And he just reminded me that luna was by my side —I've practically forgotten her.

“yes, I can. ” Things were becoming clearer. Luna is an animal and I can control her with my thoughts, I can feel her thoughts also. Why can't I control other animals?

“so stop that bird. ” He pointed to another.

I looked up at it. It's an egret. I wanted to feel it, connect to it, invade it's thought, manipulate it. That's what I did. I feel the thought of the egret. It was friendly, happy like it just met a long lost friend, it was open minded and I felt like a bird myself. In my thoughts, I called it's name —rather unconsciously.

«Elveas, please stop. » I sent to it. I wasn't surprised —I knew I wasn't human anyway.

“Next, ” he said with no iota of happiness or commendation. I wondered what he was thinking. Aargh!

“ We need rain—cause rain to fall now. ”

“What?! I'm not God! ” I said —more like a shriek. I was going crazy really.

“ But you can. You should be able to. Since you are that person the world is waiting for—you should. ”

I closed my eyes, lost in a kind of feeling I could not discern. I felt energy coarse through me but I had my doubts. I did this for a while but since nothing came up, I gave up. Depressed, I kept my eyes shut wishing the world could just go as blank as it looked.

“ Try again Katrienair. You are learning —try again. ”

I tried again, this time more focused and determined. I held on to that fire burning through me until I felt my clothes get drenched. Yes, it was raining. I did it! I felt powerful, mighty, relentless —I felt like I could rule the world.

“ Stop the rain Katrienair!” I heard him say.

I didn't have to do much work. It stopped with just a change in my thoughts.

I opened my eyes, tried to smile but then I felt his hands on my shoulder.

“ Katrienair, you don't need me anymore. You're quite a fast learner and I think you'll have to learn yourself. Fight a good fight. ” He disappeared before I could think of one thing that he said. I felt hopeless or rather lost. I just stood there motionless —trying to understand the sudden changes that has happened in my life.  I got freed by this man and he has brought me here to train and now he's left me to 'fight a good fight'. How does that even sound? How the hell am I going to get back to where I came from? I looked around and discovered another cause to worry —the path filled with different sort of weapons is now empty. I was a bit relieved when I saw a spear tucked at the side of my dress— nice at least I can defend myself. I saw Luna standing alert by my side. It's like she's seeing some things I can't see—something terrifying. I could feel her rapid breathing and the hair on her back was erect like she's sensed danger.

«Luna, what's wrong? » I sent to her. She was still focus, looking ready to fight. Remember his last words 'fight a good fight', I held on to the hilt of my sword. Suddenly, I saw a fog of smoke at a corner of the field.

On a closer look I saw, hardly thirty paces

away, the most scary creature I've ever seen. Well, I don't think it has a name —just a beast. Hulking,

muscular, standing on all fours,

nearly the size of a horse. I have never seen a beast before, but I've heard

the legends. It resembled a lion, but

was bigger, broader, its hide a deep black and its eyes a glowing yellow.

I've heard of few sightings of

this beast in my life, but

I believed it was all fiction.

Maybe that was because no one had

ever actually survived an encounter.

One look at Luna, I was challenged—my wolf was looking more courageous than even me. She has the guts, so what's wrong with me? I craved to save her the stress of fighting these huge creature. I felt the need to act fast.

I took a careful step back.

The Beast, its huge jaws half-open,

its fangs dripping saliva, stared back

with its yellow eyes.

My first impulse was to turn and

run— his fangs were as scary as hell, but I already knew that would

be futile. This beast could outrun

anything. Running would only

embolden it and put myself and Luna in more danger. I stood frozen in fear, and knew I

had to take action of some sort.
