I was shocked to see Ava, she was the girl who had confessed her feelings to me while I was in the State, she was also the girl who knew a lot about me, I have told her that I can’t love her, I have told her about me being a mess, but what surprised me was the fact she showed up in this country.
It had been a long time since I had seen her and she was dressed perfectly but the expression on her face was so sad. It was so sorrowful that I had to shake away the shocked look I had just to see the pain she felt deep in her heart.
I had to leave with her while I know Ivana was watching us, Ava told me she had something to tell me and I felt pity at how skinny she had become that I had to hurry back home change my outfit and leave with her since she was waiting outside the mansion and I didn’t want Ivana or my mother to see her in order to avoid some certain questions.
I took Ava out for breakfast, she had no appetite, she looked sick and so sad and I had to comfort her, I knew I should do this since we are friends, no matter what I bonded with Ava in the State and just because I can’t love her doesn’t mean I shouldn’t comfort her.
She was not saying anything to me, she was not telling me why she was here and I didn’t press her to talk, rather to lighten her mood I had to take her out to see some nice place in the city, I tried my best to make her smile and it worked out even if the smiles don’t reach her eyes.
I was also not in a great mood since I was thinking of Ivana being worried about me, but I can’t let go of this girl who needs a friend right now, Ava was almost like me, although she was not an introvert and always engage in conversations, she was not so wild either and stays on her own a lot, this was part of the reason I was drawn to her.
She had taken me around the States and showed me places too when I was sad. It was through her that I met Hinn Carlos and Ryan. Today was the first day I have seen Ava this quiet and gloomy, if anyone was in my position, they wouldn’t let her be on her own and it was also the first time she was coming to this country and I was the only one who she knew her for now since she hadn’t met Hinn Carlos or Ryan.
The sunset and we left the amusement park after riding on almost all the machines, I had to take her out for dinner since she had barely eaten any meal for breakfast, to get her appetite back, I had to take her to a famous restaurant where I know their dishes would be so delicious that she couldn't resist.
When I got into the restaurant, the first thought that came into my mind was Ivana. I wish I had first brought her here and also seen the smile and surprise look on her face. Just the thought of Ivana speaking nonstop about how awesome this place looked got me smiling.
“What is so funny Robin?” Ava asked me and I turned to her since her words had pulled me out of my thoughts, she was about eating but still hadn’t touched her meal.
“Oh…” I stopped smiling. “I just remembered something.” I cut my steak and pushed over to her and took hers as I looked at her face, she was still staring at me with a gaze I can fully understand. “Eat up,” I told her and she nodded and began to eat.
I glanced down at my wristwatch. I had told my mother that I would be home late today but I was expecting to go to school for practice and to ride Ivana back home, but it was too late for that since the practice was over now and Ivana would be at home.
“Do you have somewhere to be?” Ava looked up at me and I glanced at her. “I have noticed you staring down at your wristwatch since we left your house.”
Yes, I have to go to Ivana, she must be waiting for me, she might be worried if only I can imagine the thoughts going through her mind right now.
I flashed Ava a smile. “Not really,” I put down my cutlery and took a sip of water. “Tell me, why do you look so gloomy and why are you here all of a sudden?” I couldn’t hold back anymore, the earlier I knew the better for me to leave her and go to Ivana.
“I had to see you, Robin, I was so sad and I know I got to see you in order to feel better.” Ava’s voice was hoarse and I know something bad must have happened.
“What is wrong Ava? You know you can tell me about anything.” I looked into her eyes searching for answers and she looked down, closing her eyes as a single tear ran down her cheek.
“I am losing everything like you did Robin,” She looked up at me. “Sorry to compare but I think I will be in the same boat as you soon.” Her brows were wrinkled and I had to reach for her hand from across the table to give warmth to them.
“What happened?” I looked into her eyes and got even more worried.
“My parents, they are getting divorced.” Her lips trembled as more tears rolled down her cheek, right now I don’t know the words to say to comfort her. “My dad and mom are separating and I don’t know who to forgive, I had to leave, I had to leave to the only place I could and that is to you.” She sniffled and looked at me with blurry eyes.
“Ava, still you shouldn’t have left, they must be worried about you.” I know that the situation in her home was not so good, I can recall that whenever I went over to her place, her parents were either arguing or not talking to each other.
That was also a reason why I didn’t want Ava to love me since I can’t give her the love she deserved and what if I break her heart like her parents are doing right now, that would be a double hurt, this was the reason I told her to find someone who would love her better than I, but now that I have decided to love, I was giving them all to Ivana since she is and will be the only girl who warms my heart.
“I can’t go back Robin, I won’t, I don’t mind them searching everywhere for me.” She shook her head. “They hurt me first, if they can’t be together in peace then they would rather lose me.”
I closed my eyes momentarily. I have never been the one to comfort a lady before. I hate complicating my life and I hate involving myself in family messes. I had only been saved from mine with Ivana’s help, and now this one too.
