Theon
Rushing footsteps followed me and I didn't have to look to find out who was following me. I could still hear my two sisters' argument getting louder and louder.
" Where are you going, Apollo? " Sam asked, panting as she struggled to keep up.
" Don't run," I murmured.
" Then walk slower," she pleaded as we reached the stairs.
I complied with her request to prevent her from rushing up the stairs, but my mind was made up, Marcus would learn to keep his distance from any of my sisters!
" Where are you going? " Sam asked again.
" I'm going to kill that bastard," I muttered, expecting her to try to stop me.
My mother and sister were in the living room, looking startled at the confusion unfolding upstairs.
" Theon, what happened? " My mother asked.
I didn't answer, I headed for the door while Sam shouted a summary of what had happened, running to catch up with me. I got into the car, preparing to start it when Sam took the passenger seat.
" What the…"
" Come on, Apollo, you're not going to cut me out of this," she declared, buckling her seat belt.
I thought about arguing, but eventually gave up, starting the car and driving towards the hotel where Marcus stayed whenever he came to visit my sister.
" What do you intend to do? You know, besides kill the bastard," Sam broke the silence.
" You think it's a joke," I muttered angrily after glaring at her.
" Not really, I think you're right," she shrugged, "he crossed the line, he deserves to have you Kick his ass.
I hid a half smile, feeling her presence calm the storm brewing inside me.
" But, I'll be there to stop you from killing him anyway. You know, I'd rather my son have a father present," she teased me.
I brought my hand to hers, automatically interlacing our fingers. Sam looked surprised, but soon relaxed a little, stroking my hand in response. As soon as we arrived at the hotel we found Marcus about to get into his car, probably to drive to Lara's ruined party.
I stopped the car anyway behind him, jumping out afterwards. Marcus was surprised to see me there.
" Adamos, is something wrong? " he came toward me with a worried expression.
I heard the passenger door slam as Sam came down, but my attention was on Marcus, I didn't answer him, I just aimed at his face and hit him with my clenched fists. Marcus staggered back, his eyes widening in surprise at the blow.
" What? " he stammered before I hit him again and again, knocking him to the ground before kicking him in the stomach.
" Do you really think you can play with my sisters like this? " I growled as I kicked him.
He tried to protect himself as the hotel staff rushed to his rescue, one of the security guards managed to pull me away from him, while one of the receptionists helped him to his feet.
" What's going on here? " the security guard growled.
" I don't know, he just came in out of the blue and. I don't know what he's talking about," Marcus gasped, his nose bleeding.
" You don't know, did you think we wouldn't find out about you and Evangeline? " I raised my voice, trying to advance once more toward him, only to be restrained by the security guard.
Marcus straightened up, extricating himself from the support of the receptionist, and got a petulant look on his face.
" I don't know what you are talking about," he assured me, "Evangeline has been stalking me since Christmas."
" Really? You didn't make any promises to her? " Sam crossed her arms, staring at him.
" Promise? I don't make promises," he retorted, "it's not my fault if she threw herself at me from the beginning."
" Ah yes, you are a poor victim," Sam rolled his eyes as I tried to move towards him again.
He still has the audacity to put all the responsibility on my sister? Not that she was innocent, but he bears most of the blame!
I managed to free myself from the man who was preventing me from approaching him, grabbed him by the collar and threw him to the ground again, but before I could do more, I was pushed away again, and this time Sam helped, which made it impossible for me to make any move.
" You will stay away from both of them, I don't want to hear about you anymore! " I shouted as I was pushed away.
" Apollo, that's enough," Sam whispered, "they're going to call the police soon."
" Stay away? I am the father of your niece, you idiot " Marcus stood up with some difficulty.
He looked furious at his wounded pride, but I couldn't care less. He was lucky Sam was there, otherwise no one would have stopped me from strangling him with my bare hands.
" Don't make me…"
" Actually, I might actually stay away," he smiled, "I know the best lawyer in Chicago, so maybe I'll decide to get custody of Daphne. How much do you think your little sister would like that?"
A red cloud came over my vision at this threat. If this bastard thinks he can hurt my sister any more than he already has?
My attention was diverted when Sam turned her back on me and walked towards Marcus with a threatening look that was ignored by the man. No one stopped her from approaching, apparently they didn't consider her a threat, which was a big mistake.
In one swift motion, she braced both hands on the Man's shoulders before bringing her knee up sharply, hitting him in the groin and leaving everyone unresponsive. Sam took a step backwards as he fell to the ground writhing in pain.
" Are you going to hire the best lawyer in Chicago? " she practically spat at him as I stared at her in surprise " great, do it. He will definitely grant you the right to visit Daphne once in a while. Because my father has the contact details of the five biggest lawyers in the country, and I will personally see to it that Lara has access to all of them. And when they're done with you, you'll be lucky if you still have the money to catch a damn plane to visit your daughter!"
I shook off the security guard who was keeping me from Marcus and walked towards Sam, she turned her back on the bastard who was still writhing on the floor and came over to me. I slung my arm around her shoulder, barely able to contain the pride that came over me at her attitude.
" I think we're done here, Apollo," she offered me a half smile.
I returned it with a full smile before guiding her to the car, I didn't take long to get us out of the place, but I had barely driven a few blocks when I parked anyway to Sam's surprise.
" Is something wrong?"
" Are you hurt? " I was worried.
She shouldn't have tried so hard, she's already in her eighth month of pregnancy and all we didn't want was for Henry to decide to push it forward.
" Hurt me? Really? Theon, did you see how he looked? " she sneered.
" I'm not worried about him, I'm worried about you," I returned, though I couldn't hold back a smile as I recalled the scene.
Sam looked surprised to hear this, and looked away in an attempt to hide her smile.
" I wasn't hurt, but thank you for caring. I couldn't listen to him say all those things about Lara and not do anything about it," she looked back in my direction.
" Thank you."
I felt something grow in my chest at hearing that statement. Sam was special, in a way that I couldn't even measure. I missed her, every detail. She reached for my hand, stroking the back of it with her thumb, causing my mind to float for a moment. Without much thought I leaned toward her, capturing her lips with mine. Sam seemed to have been taken by surprise and it brought me to my senses and reminded me of our last conversation.
" Sorry," I immediately pulled away, trying to work around the situation.
But Sam came closer again, bringing her hand to the back of my neck, pulling my face back toward her. Her kiss was just as I remembered it, warm, sweet, intense. I wrapped my hand around her waist, leaning into him until breathlessness caused us to pull away a little. Sam rested her forehead against mine, keeping her eyes closed and breathing heavily.
" I'm sorry…"
" For what? " she couldn't think that I had been offended by that, could she?
" For what I said at Christmas," she explained, "I was wrong, I…"
I didn't let her finish her sentence, but soon pulled her back to me as I understood the meaning of her words. Surely we would have to talk and clear things up, but right now all that matters to me is to be close to her!
