Chapter 66

According to Monique, the healers’ hands glow when they heal someone. It was something Sophie thought of as her theory, considering her hands always glow whenever she was healing someone. And it was confirmed today. Monique also said the light the healers produced determine their ability rank, and it was what she wanted to see.

Monique made them showcase their talent by giving them test subjects from the Human world. However, it wasn’t just to identify their prowess’ extent. She also wanted to know their sharpness, control, and speed.

As what Monique said, the light every healer produced didn’t guarantee their ability to assess an illness, or wounds. It also had no connection in having more control, nor speed. She made it clear that because one is a high ranked, did not automatically mean she will ace the three main focus of healing.

Monique believed it was only a matter of experience, and talent.

But beside the younger healer wolves she was in-charged of training, Monique also wanted to see Sophie’s healing power. The Alpha’s consort who was rumored to have a blue healing ability.

The strongest one there was. She was curious, and astonished.

“You have my word that your teaching would reach the Alpha.” Sophie smiled genuinely.

The training had just ended. The only ones left inside now were Sophie, her servant, flora, and Monique herself. Monique could clearly see from Sophie’s face how delighted she was from witnessing their practices today.

She was thinking it must have been because of the fact that she was the only healer in their family, and that growing up, there was no one knowledgeable enough to teach her anything about what she needed to know.

Not to mention that Monique knew Sophie wasn’t really sent by the Alpha.

Monique personally heard from the Council that the Alpha strictly forbidded Sophie from participating in the war. Hence, she easily caught up and thought that if the Alpha really hated Sophie engaging in any serious situation, he would also not let Sophie check the den where the coming wolves are training.

Where the youth with not much experience were learning the basics.

In addition to that, the Alpha never passed his work to anyone no matter how busy he was.

“Thank you, Ms. Sophie. I truly hoe you can come again tomorrow.” Monique threw Sophie a fondly look.

Though they never talk to each other before until today, Monique felt like she knew Sophie her entire life. She liked her, and she was sure it wasn’t because of her relationship with the Alpha.

"Perhaps, it was the connection between them healers.”

“As I will, Ms. Monique.” Sophie gave her a parting smile.

Sophie still haven’t realized her full potential. Like a bud from a flower tree waiting for its season to bloom, Sophie still needed time. And Monique felt like she need to do something to help her, as someone with enough knowledge and experience to guide her.

Why do I feel so inclined to put her out of her curiosity when we have just met? Monique asked herself. Was it because she looked passionate as she watched them earlier? Or was it the way she looked amazed and eager to learn?

Or was it her desire to teach the youth about healing, to support the pack and fullfill their role?

Sophie and Flora were just about to leave the door, when Monique called Sophie. She walked from her position to follow the two who just bid goodbye through eye-contact.

“If you are interested, Luna. I’d like to be of help to you. There might still be something you want to learn…” Monique breathed, and smiled.

She cannot help but ask her. Monique suddenly felt the need to get herself involved in Sophie’s curiosity, although she barely knew the Luna.

“Pardon me?” Sophie asked when she looked back to Monique with her brows creased. “Do you mean you want to teach me?”

Hope immediately sprouted from Sophie’s heart. She was astounded. Did Ms. Monique really say what she heard?

“If you’d allow me, Luna.”

Sophie slightly gasped. Her lips parted as she was speechless for a fraction of seconds. No. Wait. She didn’t hear it wrong. Monique was willing to help her! Right at the time when she needed help, she appeared with a torch!

“Of course!” Sophie as one who already had the intention to learn, agreed with eagerly. “Thank you, Ms. Monique!”

Monique put her right hand over her chest and bowed down her head a little to pay respect. Although she was obviously older and more experienced than her, she was still the Alpha’s Luna. Everyone of them were obliged to respect her, regardless the age.

Sophie was in a higher position now, and she can not refuse it.

“You’re welcome, Ms. Sophie. I’ll see you tomorrow, then.”

–––

“Beg me.”

Edward narrowed his eyes to the Alpha of the Western Border, criticizing his answer.

“So, you’re also one who can not fend off the disease of favoritism.”

“Why are you surprise?” Axel threw Edward a scrunitizing look. “We are just allies in paper.”

“I knew it. You didn’t really accept the alliance because you wanted it.”

“The pack wanted it to happen. Besides, why would I ever want my name to be linked with yours?”

“Gentlemen…” Ernesto stood up to get in between the two Alpha. “I believe we should focus more on our topic.”

Axel cleared his throat. For a moment, he got carried away with Edward’s childishness. Perhaps, he should really get to the point so he could get away from this place that had been keeping him breathe the same air as Edward.

“The solution you spoke sounded promising. Thank you, Edward.” Axel’s facial expression changed.

Although he felt truly thankful to Edward’s plan, his second statement didn’t sound genuine.

“You owe me one, Axel.” Edward responded formally, like he meant to say something this was not something he should be thankful for.

“Of course.”

Afterall, it was a favor. Axel knew even before he asked his men to communicate with Dark Silvers, Edward’s pack, that he will soon ask him to return it.

“But this discussion will not end with that.” Axel added. “Your plan would do, but I want to completely outsmart August. So, I’m thinking of a relayed bait.”

Axel was cautious. He preferred not to belittle August, as too much confidence may strike him back if he got too contented. Axel wanted to assure their victory, so he wanted to eradicate any chance of the Dark Crimson winning.

“Do you have something in mind?” Edward asked.

“Alpha…” Ernesto called Axel’s attention with a dissatisfied look. His tone was dipped with disagreement. “Aren’t we getting too cautious for a war that is not ours?”

Doing his duty as Efraim’s ally was no issue. But Ernesto felt like Axel was overdoing it. He felt like there was no need for a relayed plan, for they had already given Efraim more than the bare minimum.

“The Wesleyeian is but a weak pack, Ernesto.” Axel started to pinpoint something. “It’s not a matter of who originally August’s enemy is. The Wesleyeian will win this, because of us. That should be the outcome.” Axel’s tone was stern.

Despite his unreadable behavior these days, Axel knew what he was doing. He had been in a lot of war before, and he had been taking countermeasure each time to make sure he will defeat them. The difference now was that this wasn’t just theirs, but Wesleyeian’s fight.

“You’re after the victory, like the war maniac that you are.” Edward, once again left an irrelevant question with a grin reigning over his lips.

“Stick to the discussion, Edward.” Axel warned him, before he took his eyes to the Council.

“I see you don’t like praises.” Edward raised both his hands. “If it’s a double plan that you need, tell me how you want it done so I can think of something.”

“Do you by any chance know one of August’s closest ally?”

The Council never said anything after Axel remark, so he shifted his gaze to the other Alpha inside the room.

Now that Edward seemed to be willing to help, an idea came to Axel.

At first, Axel didn’t have any specific plan in his mind. He just thought a relayed plan would do them best, so he wanted to proceed with it. But now that both of them are paying attention to it, he was starting to pick something.

“I know two.” Edward’s response was quick. “Desmond and Reygust.”

“Reygust?” Axel recognized one of the two names Edward mentioned. “The new Alpha of the Southern Gate?”

The Southern Gate was a pack where famous weapons were made. They were craftsman, a pack of smith. It was the pack where their weapons came from. But they stopped making any kind of weapons for over a year when their previous leader died. They only continued recently, with a new Alpha knowned as Reygust Buster.

Edward snapped his fingers. “Bingo.”

Whilst it was true that Axel hated interaction from any pack’s Alpha, he still got ears for rumors and hearsay, especially to those whom he was familiar with.

“Reygust…” Axel muttered his name under his breathe. “Are you friends with him?”

“We just formed an alliance.” Edward proudly said. “What is it you want me to do?”

“Try to squeeze information out of him.”
