Before Sophie came, Axel, the Alpha himself asked Monique to teach Sophie what she needed and wanted to know. He had given it a thought. Ever since Sophie told him her reasons why she visited Monique, Axel realized that Sophie must have gotten thirsty for knowledge. He recognized her genuinity in learning.
And for someone who was impressed by Sophie’s ability the first time he saw it, Axel cannot restrict her. He wanted to grant Sophie’s desire. Besides, he was sure it will become beneficial to the country.
If Sophie could learn to acknowledge her full potention, and started to use her prowess to its extent, she will be unstoppable, and the pack will feel more assured to have Sophie as her Luna.
Axel was even thinking beyond what was to happen. That if Sophie, and him was to have a baby, he could have a more powerful successor. One who had the strength of an Alpha and a high-ranked ability like Sophie. It delighted him.
So, when Monique agreed to his suggestion, he immediately gathered the wolves who would substitute Monique.
“I just talked to Ms. Sophie Drie, Alpha.” Monique reported to him. “We have agreed to have a daily period, twice a day. One in the morning, from nine a.m to twelve, and one in the afternoon, from two p.m to six.”
Twice daily… Axel tilted his head. That’s a lot of time.
“I don’t see the reason why it had to be twice a day. You have all the time in the world to teach.” Axel’s brows formed a line. “Who suggested that?”
“It was Ms. Sophie Drie, Alpha.”
What Monique said made him more curious. Twice a day seemed… a little too much. Axel knew how much Sophie wanted to learn, but it would consume all of her time. Training physically was almost the same as training your healing ability.
Except the latter was more exhausting, because not only it will tire her bodilly, it would also drain her physiologically. It could have an affect to her ability, and its source. Although the way healing prowess works was still unexplainable, since the power to heal was originally the goddess’ ability, in the ancient times, and it only happened that some of the wolves one hundred years ago was born with it, there was not enough evidence to prove how their kind could produce such miracle property, when wolves should only have enhanced strength similar to the beastmen.
Axel have been to a lot of places. He fought with a lot of people. He had wolves working under him with the same uncommon ability. He had been chosen as an Alpha for decades, and perhaps longer than any of the neighboring pack’s Alpha. He had encounter a lot of healers, who lost their ability for utilizing it more than necessary.
“It’s dangerous, Monique. I’m sure you know.” Axel’s face was serious. “In any case, I don’t want Sophie to lose hope. She wants to use her ability to help, and I put you in charge of letting her be capable of that.”
“I understand the concern, Alpha. I may have only met Ms. Sophie recently, but I’m fond of her. “ Monique gave him a reassuring smile. “I only agreed to what she said, because I know there is a way to avoid the sudden loss of magic.”
“There is a way?” The Alpha’s brows creased even more. “What is it, Monique? And why are you only revealing it now?”
“The Wesleyeian, Alpha.” Monique raised her chin. “Forgive if I sound impudent. But for my long years of taking care of this healing power, I have been searching for a way to maintain it from oneself.”
Monique was one of the most oldest and knowledgeable healer wolf Axel had. Which was why he entrusted Sophie to her. Axel could have put another healer in charge to teach Sophie, but Axel knew Monique would do a better job than any healer in this Kingdom can. She was that capable.
“Are you implying the Wesleyeian’s know something?”
“The tribe who have the knowledge in history. The Wesleyeians.” Monique smiled cleverly. “They have the solution to keep the power intact to the wolf’s body, so that it can never leave. Weakened, yes. As you spend a lot of time using it. But not to ever disappear.”
The wolves only discovered they can use magic one hundred years ago. It was a traditional story that wolves who had healing powers were the breathren of a goddess’ whose partner was a wolf, but there was no evidence to prove that, nor they had been alive for long to any of the living wolf today to witnessed that.
But if it indeed happened in ancient times, then, the Wesleyeian might really know something. They are the history themselves. One reason that they secluded themselves was because of those who wanted to overuse them.
Axel sat straight. He played with his pen with his fingers, as he thought about it.
He cannot possibly ask Efraim about that now. The war was near. Surely, things were tough from his end.
“I will make sure to arrange preparations between you and Efraim.” Axel approved Monique’s idea of using the Wesleyeians. “After the war, Monique.”
Monique nodded her head. “Thank you, Alpha.”
“Take care of Sophie, Monique. Do not let the training tire her out. I don’t want her to get sick.” Axel rested his back on his chair, his one hand propped at the table. “You may go.”
Monique nodded, again. She bowed her head, as a way of paying respect, before she left Axel’s den.
Axel, however, was still thinking of what just Monique said. The idea of using Wesleyeians were not bad. Afterall, they owed Axel big time. Even more if they would win the war. And they can only ever repay it by sharing the important information they knew.
The wolves’ ancient history between the Alpha and their Luna. Knowledge about removing the baby inside a womb without actually affecting its mother. And just now, the only way possible to keep the healing prowess inside its holder.
