“Communicating with the human race is one thing. But accepting an unknown alchemy in exchange of our own is another!” Efraim expressed his opinion towards the said information about August. “He’s no different than a traitor!”
Although there was never an engagement between humans and wolves, they remained wary to their kind. They had lived their life separate from them.
Humans probably didn’t know about their existence, as there was never a single person who have managed to enter their world. The stories about wolves, for most of the mortals, was a myth; Unproven. Fictional.
Additionally, the wolves’ law forbid them to get in contact with the human race, to avoid the ordeal. The only time they can get to the other world was if it was necessary.
And whilst the majority of the wolves, including the three Alpha, and the elders, discriminated the mankind. There were still low percentage of them who believed they could be friends with the humans.
However, August was not a wolf with a warm heart to consider humans as an ally. Now, knowing that he made a deal in ex-changing of allowing his own to be test subjects was a deemed act of betrayal, for Efraim, Axel, and Edward.
“Which is why I plan to eradicate them, Efraim.” Axel spoke. “We will not only win. We will slaughter them. Each. Of. Them.”
A while ago, Axel showed a glimpse of his anger towards the Crimson Red. The elders, and Efraim, assumed it was because of the casualties when August sent his men to the mountain. It was only this moment they had truly understand why Axel’s words were threatening.
He was not only planning to settle the scores. He wanted to punish August, and his pack.
“Sooner or later, the Goddess will find out.” Rogelio spoke. “And it will not matter, whether or not we will manage to kill every single one of them. Because they will soon face the Goddess’ punishment.”
“I am not so sure about that, Rogelio.”
Axel calmly rested his back on his chair. He had been thinking.
Why did August made a deal to a human? To make his men stronger, knowing the Goddess will not overlook it? What made him surrender to such unworthy bargain? Axel refused to believe it was because August didn’t believe in the Goddess existence. He felt like there was more to it.
Perhaps, it wasn’t just the deal August had under his sleeve. Maybe, there was still one more.Something that he prepared ahead of time. Plausibly, a plan to protect his doing? To save himself and his pack?
What was it?
What kind of countermeasure did he set up, to act foolishly, knowing the Goddess could come after him?
“Pardon me, Alpha. But what do you mean?”
“August is not a fool, Rogelio. The last time, I was confident that he was not a big deal. But after this series of event. August has proven himself worthy to be an enemy I should watch out carefully for.”
Axel had always been careful. Before he engage in any war, he always thought ahead of time. He always thought of the possible danger that may befall them in the actual battlefield. He did not want to be confident, and come back defeated.
He wanted to make sure the victory was his. So, during the preparation, he did what he was used on doing. Efraim and Edward might have thought it was too much, but he had always been like this.
He admitted it had been long since he last participated in a war. It stimulated Axel. But things had been going more serious now. Especially that August was now slowly having an effect to Axel.
“Are you implying, that August is still hiding something?” Ernesto has caught on.
“Precisely.”
“Then, how are we going to defeat them, if they have the alchemy of humans supporting them?” Efraim’s brows puckered.
“We’re going all out.”
“All out?” Edward repeated. “Enlighten us, Alpha of the Western Border.”
“I meant every word. We are going all out. I am going to send all of my men. All of my healers. All of my weapons.” Axel spoke with certainty and poise. Like he had already thought about this. “We will not crawl in fear just because of the drug you spoke of, Edward.
And I do not plan to surrender. Not to anyone. Not to a traitor.”
Axel’s sharp remark had made Efraim silent once again. It seemed Axel had become more serious in the war. More than he already was. It made him ashamed. Since the day of the alliance, Axel had been preparing a lot. He showed no hesitancy in helping them. Yet one mere attack in the mountain and he was shaken. It embarrassed him to have act like that, knowing he was a leader, with the same title as Edward and Axel.
“An all out war…” Efraim breathed hard. “I have never used the tribe’s knowledge for a bad cause, Axel. But I have a book, given to me by my father. It has been passed down to generations. And now, it is under my care.”
“What book?” Edward asked.
“I like the determined look on your face…” Axel noticed. “Continue, Efraim.”
“A book of our ancestors who lived in this world with the Goddess. I have never opened it. But I am sure, it will be of help.”
The Wesleyeians was never fond of violence. Which is why they never engaged in any war. They secluded themselves, to avoid getting involved with battles, and any conflicts between different pack. Their bloodline had passed by a lot of generations, but their will to keep the tranquility within their tribe was kept.
Thus, they never used their knowledge to trouble and bring harm to the others.
However, the book existed to save them in any case of inevitable danger. It was still alive, up to this day, for that sole purpose. The historical record of their ancestors, during the time the Goddess was still friendly to the wolves, was written there. Their powers, and the risk it brings.
But it had one more thing.
“Tell us, Efraim. How is that book going to help us?”
“It has incantation, Axel. To awake the special ability we possess.”
