They would be up against a big enemy this time. An enemy who had the help of a human excellent in physical and natural science.
Sophie’s aunt heaved a deep sigh. “I am sorry I had to ask. I just heard your servant, Flora, talk to a woman this morning. They seemed to be talking about the war, and I caught a bit of their conversation.”
“Who?” What Sophie’s aunt said caught her attention. “Flora’s talking to who?”
A woman? Was she a servant too? A friend? But for months of being together, she haven’t seen Flora talk to anyone else but her. They were always together. But she had never mentioned a single name about a friend.
A relative, then?
But who exactly? And why would Flora talk about the war with her relative? To ask for updates? It sounded possible, but still, something felt wrong. At least, for Sophie.
“A woman on your age, Sophie. I believe she called her, Rebecca.”
Rebecca.
Sophie’s face reflected perplexity, not expecting the name her aunt uttered. She was out of words. The last time, she overheard the servants talked about it, too. Why would Flora talk to Rebecca? Especially, without reporting it to her? If Rebecca was asking her about the war, shouldn’t Flora at least… tell her?
Or was the visit personal?
What was their relationship to each other?
“Rebecca…” Sophie tilted her head. “When was that? Where did you see them?”
“At the garden this morning, Sophie. Why? Do you know that Rebecca?”
“She was…. Axel’s ex-Luna.”
Silence engulfed inside the lair. Although Rebecca had been Axel’s Luna for long years, for wolves like them who lived away from the Capital, they didn’t have the means to be updated. They knew Rebecca only in name and not in physical appearance. They had heard rumors, announcement, even the news. But such information that never picked their interest had always remained unknown by them.
“Axel’s ex-Luna… so it’s not a coincidence.” Her aunt responded. She probably decipher that they had the same name.
“But why is your servant communicating with her Alpha’s past Luna? Are they blood related?”
“No…” Sophie lightly shook her head. “I’m also curious…”
She was too pre-occupied the first time she heard about it. Sophie let it slide since it might just be a hearsay. But now that her aunt had saw it with her own two eyes… that was something that certainly caught Sophie’s attention.
Because if they were that close in the first place, when Rebecca left the Palace, she would have brought Flora with her, right?
That said, Sophie cannot help but feel more curious. Thus, she looked for a timing in which she can confront Flora.
But she was either always with Hansel, or with the other servant. Days had passed and she wasn’t able to ask Flora about it. Until the day came where Hugo and his group were said to return.
“Alpha, the Limoo is ready.” Gretto informed him.
Since he cannot ask his men who were under such difficult training, he had to ask the low ranked wolves to accompany him towards the entrance door of the Kingdom. After a few months, the men he sent to favor him were returning. Though empty-handed, their simple presence will be enough to bring joy in the Alpha. Especially, under the complicated circumstances.
“Thank you, Gretto.” The Alpha closed the last buttons on his chosen suit, before he turned to the mirror to check himself. “How about the group I assigned to come with us?”
“They’re on the other Limoo, Alpha.”
“How about Jackson and Jacob? Are they heading out the Kingdom to fetch Hugo, as planned?”
Gretto nodded. “Yes, Alpha.”
The Alpha nodded his head. “Good.”
Finishing up his look, the Alpha sprayed a perfume, and gave himself one last look before he gestured at Gretto to go out first. It was already nine in the morning. He won’t be attending the practice today as the Wesleyeian’s guide since he wanted to personally welcome Hugo and the others in the Kingdom. But as a countermeasure, the Council will temporarily replace him.
For half a day, depending on how long it would took for them to return.
For the past days, just like what they had agreed to, Axel trained the Wesleyeians. The high ranked wolves trained all of the wolves who were participating in the war. Whilst Monique, and the others would take care of the healers. It was a tough routine. Warriors would have to practice until they were sweating blood, and healers would have to use their power to its extent to the point that it was draining them.
The solution they had for that, however, was pretty effective.
Just like what Monique confidently proposed to the Alpha, asking Efraim would be a big help. Since the often use of healing would deeply affect its caster, they had to do something, or else they would lose their wolves before the war even break out.
That said, after the meeting to assess the special ability, Alpha asked Efraim for another private discussion including only the two of them.
Luckily, it was something Efraim had learned before. Efraim, as a leader who was deeply indebted to Axel, he disclosed the information that could prevent a healer from getting weaker; a drop of blood from a blue light healer.
It was Sophie.
It was a bit risky. But Alpha had no choice. Alpha asked Monique if it could harm Sophie and the baby beforehand, and after hearing it wouldn’t, they proceeded.
According to Efraim, it was only a drop of blue light. It gave Axel a mystery, since Sophie herself wasn’t able to fend off its side effects. Axel shared it to Efraim, and learned that it might be because the baby, who was not a healer, was negating it inside her body.
Axel, even with his doubts, used Sophie’s blood to help the healers. So the healers could continue with their job to support their warriors.
Right now, he was on the way to fetch six more of his. High ranked wolves whose ability were acknowledged by him. They only have four days left. Before then, he needed to enlightened them. About the war. About August’s betrayal to their kind. About the special ability.
He needed to make sure they’d be ready for what’s coming. All while waiting for Efraim to solve what they could not fathom in the book.
