Rebecca did not fear the servants. Though, it was not impossible for Flora to retaliate and betray her, she had already planned a countermeasure for that. Besides, she was not in the actual scene. Nor was she seen by anybody, to stand as a direct proof, that she was involved in it. She believed she could easily make a way out of it, even if Flora were to drag her name.
“Your Grace?” Surprise was evident in Rebecca’s maid as she opened the door for her. Her eyes widened. Staring at Rebecca for seconds before moving aside to let her in. “Where did you go?”
Rebecca’s eyes rolled. The servants Edward hired were annoying. Always nosy. She was the same servant that picked up the hobby of entering her room without permission.
Rebecca stepped forward, walking past the servant. She removed the cloak and revealed her modern victorian dress. She was about to go straight her room when something hit her.
Rebecca turned around, measuring the servant’s character using her gaze. She handed the cloak to her.
“I did not leave the house.” Rebecca made sure the servant would hear it well and clear. “Even if someone is to impose I went out, I did not.”
“Y-your grace…”
“Do you understand?”
The servant, who have been serving the Lycan Queen for months, nodded her head in panic. She did not want to upset the Queen, specially when she had just gotten better after locking herself in her room for a few days. The maid thought it must have been because her grace did not want to let Edward know she went out. Not that it was any of her business.
The servant bowed her head, and allowed the conversation to end with peace. And it wasn’t until she heard her footsteps getting distant that she was able to breathe properly. She shook her head, and glanced at the cloak on her right hand before going back to the Kitchen.
In the Palace, however, in Sophie and Axel’s shared lair, were Sophie, Hugo, a healer, and a physician, together with five of Edward’s General. The healers and physician were just starting to check on Sophie, whilst Rousel, and Flora were in the cell.
Two of the Eastern wolves who were in charged of the transmission had contacted Edward to inform him about what was happening. Had it not been for a fact that Edward disallowed Hugo to communicate with the Alpha, he would have reported to him.
Unfortunately, regardless of what happened, Hugo understood the situation. Axel was about to enter a war. He cannot be distracted. Not when they were already at a disadvantage.
Right now, the only thing he can do at most is to wait and hope for the best.
“We’ve caught Rebecca’s accomplice, Hugo. But what are we going to do to Rebecca?” Gregor asked, one of Edward’s general.
“Did you tell your Alpha about Rebecca?”
“He already knew, Hugo.”
“What?” Hugo’s brows puckered. He stood up. “Did you mean he’s also involved in this?”
“No, Hugo. He’s certainly not. But he is aware that Rebecca is the mastermind of the attack.”
“He knew, and did not do anything?”
“Not of the attack, Hugo. But our Alpha, from the very start, know that Rebecca did not truly love him.”
Hugo’s brows rumpled. “What? Then, why did he make her his Queen?”
“That is not ours to answer, Hugo.” Gregor turned his head to the bed where Sophie was lying, “What I wanted to do know is how we can deal with Rebecca.”
“Rebecca is devious.” Hugo breathed hard. “I’m afraid we can’t do anything until they come back.”
“That’s going to give Rebecca more time to think of something to escape this.”
“She already had.” Hugo walked towards the bed. “The servant. I’m sure she plans to make her take the fall.”
“Who’s servant? We already captured Flora.”
“The other one. Flora confessed someone else injected the poison to Sophie.”
“What?” Gregor glanced at his men. “Then, I shall summon all the servants. Grant me the permission to. Hugo.”
“No. We cannot disclose it yet.” Hugo bit his lower lip. “I’ll get her myself.”
“Did you know her?”
“No.” He answered, before transferring his eyes back to Gregor. “Stay here. I’ll take care of the rest.”
Hugo did not wait for Gregor to respond, and trudged straight to head out. He may not know who it was, nor how she looked like, but he was certain he could recognize her. He had thought about it. He had been thinking about it, ever since Flora told him there was another one.
It was a murder. One cannot hide the fear of killing an important figure, even in a disguise. Its smell could be identified by a specific distance. Especially, when it was triggered.
Hugo, who had two wolves in his mind, searched for every servant’s room. To the kitchen, courtyard. It took him about twenty minutes before he headed outside the Palace, where the fugitive was running to escape.
At long last, Hugo had finally confirmed it. He ran and called her name. Until she bumped to the warden who was patrolling. Hugo stopped the servant from leaving, to dragged her back inside for a questioning.
But it won’t be in the same comfortable bed or decent place the Alpha had given them. In the same cell where Flora was in, Hugo imprisoned Rosie.
“Please, forgive me!” Rosie held the cold bars with her hands dirtied with dust and almost dry mud from the cell. “I only did what Ms. Rebecca told me to do. It was not my intention to harm the Luna!”
“Regardless of your reasons, Rosie. You have committed a grave sin you shall pay for.” Hugo coldly asserted. “Can you testify that Rebecca is indeed involve with this?”
“Will that save me from the Alpha?”
“Do not push your luck, and answer my question.”
Rosie’s shoulders trembled. She was not sure, but she had a feeling that Rebecca could escape in this accident. She was smart. She had served her before, and she was certainly not the type to let herself fall. Whilst she was indeed good to them, she had qualities that were… unreasonable and ugly.
“I…. I can testify.” Rosie swallowed hard. “But I want to know, Hugo. What kind of punishment will I get?”
“An execution.”
“E…” Rosie’s hands slid down on the bars, falling on her knees. “E… execution….”
“Ms. Sophie is your Queen, Rosie. In this Kingdom, she has the power to govern over us. She is not just a random wolf you can harm.”
She was the Western Border’s Luna. She had been crowned as the pack’s Queen, and their Alpha’s mate. She was a special figure that should be respected and feared. Did Rosie think she can get away with it with just by testifying?
“H-how about Flora, then?” Rosie’s voice reflected desperation. “She has been spying for Ms. Rebecca! Is she going to get executed, too?”
“Rosie…” Flora chuckled. “I am more than ready.”
“That would be up to Ms. Sophie, Rosie.”
Flora was indeed Rebecca’s accomplice. But she confessed, and was more than willing to take the punishment. However, the judgement will still be up to Sophie.
“What? Are you saying she will get punishment less cruel than mine? That is unfair, Hugo!” Rosie’s tone became harsh.
“You don’t get to speak about arbitrary, Rosie.” Hugo stood up. “You involved yourself with this. Now, stop whining and take the consequences.”
