When Rebecca came to Edward, he recognized her right away. He knew who she was. What she was. The only thing he kept wondering was why she wanted to leave the Alpha. Why did she chose him? Because he had the same position as Axel? There were so many possible answers. Yet, even after they slept together, Rebecca still was not willing to be honest.
No.
It was not that she was not willing. It was just not her intention.
Edward pretended to take the bait. He tried to understand Rebecca. He wanted to know what kind of she-wolf she was. Was she naturally pretentious? Or was pretending her only solution to her distress?
Was she even in distress?
Edward wanted to ask a lot of times. But Rebecca was smart. Each day, she was proving herself more… wicked to him. And Edward exactly knew another person like her.
Seraphine.
So, Edward thought that Rebecca might be spying. He tested that. He agreed on visiting the Western Border, even though he knew what kind of Alpha Axel was. It was the history of how Edward knew it wasn’t anybody’s intention but Rebecca.
Rebecca had a plan. She just didn’t know what.
What Rebecca probably missed was not knowing Edward deeply. She just appeared, seduced him, like he was a random man who’d swoon over a beauty. Perhaps, if she had shown herself earlier, he probably would. Rebecca was a beauty. She had the appeal that could tame even the strongest of them, Axel.
But Edward was way past that.
Edward enjoyed Rebecca’s accompany. He pretended to be dancing on her palm, not knowing it was the other way. Until he thought of something he could gain from Rebecca.
An alliance with the Western Border.
What Edward did not expect was impregnating Rebecca. He didn’t thought she was a woman capable of bearing a child. She did not even manage to give Axel an heir, so he automatically thought she was infertile.
He didn’t want to believe it. When Edward’s father was still alive, he told Edward, his son, that a female wolf will only be able to give a male wolf a child, if they were mate. But his father was drunk when he said that, so he thought that it was a bluff.
However, considering the circumstances. It might be possible. Only it was too late for him to consider that. Thus, Edward was left no choice but to take the responsibility. He started taking Rebecca seriously, especially when they were about to have a child.
He tried to trust Rebecca, only to have it broken the moment she saw her coming out of Axel’s den. Looking back, he had really hoped she’d invest in their relationship. But his new mate, Rebecca, was greedy. Therefore, he let go of Rebecca, emotionally.
Edward had planned it will only be until Rebecca had give birth. He’ll take the kid, and broke his relationship with Rebecca, as it was unhealthy to have her around. Edward tried to disassociate himself from Rebecca…
As a result, it led to this.
Never in his figment did he imagined Rebecca to manipulate a plan like that. She did not only harmed Axel’s Luna, she also planned to kill the baby. And if Axel were to find out about that after this war… he will certainly not hesitate to kill Rebecca with his own hands.
Edward breathed hard. He, once again, drank on his sake. This was his only way of consoling himself. His men were yet to report what had happened to Sophie. But he could only wish that she and her baby had survived. Edward could only hope it wasn’t something bad. Because it might not only put Rebecca and their baby to danger, it might also create a conflict between their alliance.
Edward rested his head unto the trunk of the tree. Closing his eyes, he tried to stop himself from drowning in angst. It had been bugging him. He cannot stop himself from worrying what will happen after they come back, if they hypothetically survive. He kept worrying.
Surely, he wouldn’t bat an eyelash even if Axel were to kill Rebecca. Had it not been for a fact that she was pregnant, he would have ordered his men to murder her right away. But she was damn lucky. She played the cards right, and she might even escape the punishment for the kind of mess she created.
Now, he wasn’t just pretending. Rebecca had him on her palm.
What recklessness.
“The Crimson Red had arrived!”
Edward immediately opened his eyes. He turned towards the open area where the voice came from. Startled by the sudden report. Edward closed the lid of the alcohol, and turned to his wolf form to widen the range of his hearing abilities.
He moved towards the rowdy wolves. Turning to both side. Some were ready to go on their formations, while some had already transformed. Edward looked in a certain direction where Terrance, one of Axel’s important wolf was in. He was firing the smoke, A signal that the enemy had indeed arrived.
“They’re here…” Efraim spoke on his side, before he pulled his dagger. “I’ll go check the Elders.”
“Be alert, Healers!” One of Axel’s best healer, Monique shouted on top of her lungs. “This is war. We are healers, and but we must also fight!”
The group of male and female wolves chanted in agreement, before they lined up along with the wolves. Their battalion were ready. Not a single wolf was afraid of what peril may befell them. It was the spirit of those who had been in a lot of battles.
Indeed. The Western Borders were far experienced than any of them were.
“We are ready, Alpha.” Someone spoke on Axel’s transmission.
“Do not fail me, Wesleyeians.” Axel responded with authority. “I will kill you all if your plan fails.”
Edward smirked with Axel’s threatening remark.
“If you’ll need to stay alive for that.” Edward teased Axel, giving him a once-over before running towards the group of wolves he was assigned to lead.
Axel will need to stay alive. Because it wasn’t only the battle’s outcome he needed to watch out for. It was also the problem he needed to face when he come back.
