The healers that followed Axel informed him about the information they got from the Wesleyeians’ elders. That said, he gave them an order. But since there wasn’t enough time, and any of the enemy could come jumping from the sky any minute, Axel had to be brief and clear with his instruction.
“We’re going to have to use you as bait.” Axel informed the healers beforehand. “Anyone who disapproves, go and use your prowess to support Monique.”
Axel did not want to force them. Being a bait was almost the same as throwing themselves to the Crimson Red. They could die. With the enemy’s strength, they could easily rip their arms and crushed their heads. It was risky, so he understood if any of them would refuse.
However, a minute passed and none of them moved forward. Axel took that as a unanimous decision. He led the healers, and assigned them to a position. They left the healers.
What he suggested was only a warning. It didn’t necessarily mean Axel would offer their bodies as soon as one popped from the darkness. It meant that it was the best option they could get. But depending on the situation, they may, or may not have to use it.
There were still another option. Keeping the enemy immobilized, and make the wolf drink from their healer. It was one or the other. Both were risky and insane that if Axel had another choice, he wouldn’t recommend doing it.
Separating from each other, but keeping a certain distance. Axel waited for an attack. But to made sure the plan wouldn’t backfired, they all transformed to be aware of the enemy’s position and presence.
Axel did not bat an eye. He carefully watch the healers he set out as a bait, sensing the enemy in the process. He tried to cut his attention in half to make sure he wouldn’t fail. And when a group of eight wolves jumped from the east, Axel and the other jumped as well, to rescue and execute the plan.
Though insane, it worked.
They repeated it again, but when they felt the overwhelming presence of the enemy, they had to think of an alternative. The first formation would only worked if they would show up one at a time. But it wouldn’t be the case if they were surrounded.
That being the case, Axel gave an order to their back up. They were to regathered, and separate again, by group. But each set had to be with at least two healers. The new information they got ruined the initial plan and formation, but it was the least of their concern. Not when it had brought them a hope to win.
On Edward’s end, however, were pretty difficult. Though they had twenty healers, they got surrounded by the enemy. Not to mentioned they got targeted by August’s general. They got found before they could even come up with a plan.
What’s more was that the healers were limiting Edward.
“This is how I didn’t like war…” Edward whispered, before walking on ahead with cautiousness, to face the three General who were also on their wolf form.
The other one had gray eyes, the two had pure black. Their fur were blue. Almost all of them were. It was their signature color. Their Alpha, August, was one of the few whose pelt was gray and white. Rumors say it was because he got it from her mother, who was from a different tribe.
“I knew it would come to this…” said by the gray eyed wolf, leaning back, while flashing his fang. “You goddamn traitor…”
Edward was given no time to react when the wolf jumped. The other Crimson Red who were keeping their distance, while waiting for their General’s order, attacked them, too. It was not only a matter of strength, but numbers. They were outman.
“It will not work like this…” Sarah, who was a healer from the Eastern pack spoke. She and the others were supporting the wolves who were fighting the Crimson Red, preventing them from from any severe injury. “Let us change our roles. You heard what Monique said, Alpha.”
Change roles. Edward immediately picked up. Sarah wanted them to exchange positions. The healers would receive the attack, and they will support. It was vaguely constructed, but Edward knew what Sarah wanted to do. They wanted to be decoy; a bait.
Their blood can weaken the drug’s effect, so Sarah wanted to offer themselves.
“It’s risky, Sarah!” Edward disagreed.
“We have no choice.” Seraphine spoke against the Alpha. “Protect the healers!”
Thewolves who were with Edward understood what Seraphine meant. They exchanged roles, allowing the healers to take the lead. They took the Crimson Red, baiting themselves. Letting them bit their skin, to cleanse their blood with theirs. It was a gamble. But Seraphine was right. They had no choice.
Edward wasn’t able to do anything, as the wolves had already agreed. He could only support the decision that had been made. That said, he ran away from Seraphine and the others to lure the Generals.
Edward ran towards the trap they set before this day. If there were only two of them, he could make it. But three would be unfortunately enough to take him down, especially with the shot they took from the Human scientist.
Edward ran as fast as he could, perhaps, faster that he ever did before. The three generals were quick to follow him. One mistake and they could grab his head and smash it down. Edward had to give what it took. Until they reached the place he remembered where they planted bombs. He jumped higher, avoiding the spot to save himself from the explosion. It was a risk.
It depended on whether or not the enemy will jump, nor ran through it.
Edward did not look back. The moment he landed, he ran towards south. A loud and deafening sound corrupted his ear once again. It resonated on his ear, before he felt its impact pushing him with force.
Edward was not able to fend off the collision. It forcefully threw him away, rendering him unable to move for a minute. It knocked his body down. The explosion raged that it created a massive fire.He felt the heat of it. He smelled the smoke.
Edward, upon being smashed by the whack of the bomb, slowly move from his feet to get away. He looked up to see the aftermath of the trap, confident that it killed the General. He was sure they wouldn’t be able to protect themselves from it.
But they did.
The three Generals that Edward lured towards the explosion jumped off from the smoke. Not even one was taken out, like the least he expected. They didn’t even look severely injured. There were wounds, but certainly not enough to limit their capabilities.
You’ve got to be kidding me.
The one with the gray eyed attacked Edward first. He dashed with his Canines and claw ready to take Edward. His eyes gleamed with bloodshed. It reflected his hunger to kill. Not the anger caused by Edward’s betrayal.
Edward quickly moved on his feat to dodge. He matched Goss’ strength, and went on defensive instead of attacking. He calculated the situation while avoiding much physical fight.
He intend to at least kill one of them using the trap. He didn’t want to kill them. Nor was he the same type as Axel who enjoy cruelty. He knew he was here as Axel and Efraim’s ally, but he only intend to either support them, or back up the wolves.
He didn’t intend to clash with them with his Canines.
“What are you doing, Edward?” Greyson, whose eyes were black, spoke. He could only tell who he was by his baldness, because he was very identical to his twin brother who was next to him. “Show us what you’ve got.”
“The explosives is what I got.” Edward responded. “What kind of drug did the Human gave you to acquire such strength?”
“So, you knew…” Garson, the twin, let out a mocking grin. “Of course. Seraphine won’t let you down.”
“Pretty useful, isn’t she?” Edward provoked the twins, all while dodging defending himself from Gross’ attack.
They had known each other for long years. During that time, Edward had seen how they fight. So regardless the extreme changes in terms of strength, Edward could see through it.
Fortunately for him, he never showed his fighting style. To begin with, he wasn’t interested in combat. Unless, necessary. Edward consider himself as a pack that used another way to gain strength. Connections.
Which was why he was known as the complete opposite of Axel.
“You’re fighting me, Edward!” Goss yelled, angered by Edward’s insulting behavior. He tried to bit off Edward’s neck, again, but utterly failed when Edward, with his fast reflexes, jumped and swirled his body mid air, creating an opportunity to attack.
Edward charged in by sinking his fangs unto Goss’ withers. Edward, finally inclined to do what was needed to be done, punctured Goss. In cold blood, he ripped the skin on his back, pulling it to further tear down his pelt. It skinned Goss, making him howled in excruciating pain.
“This is what it means to fight, Goss.”
