The group of hundred wolves from Western and Eastern pack moved from the open area towards the direction where August and his army were spotted. The Wesleyeians, however, scattered around even without Axel’s order, as if they had their own plan. They forged in, heading for the war they had been preparing for.
Axel’s eyes skimmed through the pitch-black forest. Though, some of those who are in their human form brought a torch, it was hard to see through the darkness. Even in their ability to see in aphotic places, every direction that was distant enough from their torch was caliginous. That even if they spot someone, it’ll be as faint as a shadow; like a silhouette.
Every single one from them trudged with cautiousness. They had to be careful. They had to be alert, in any surprise attack. Because now that August’s army had arrive, the bloodbath may start any time now.
They were no special purpose in their formation. Nor would it help them overcome the enemy’s strength. But Axel at least wanted to think they had tricks under their sleeve. That they had separated their men; as they really did. Axel wanted August to attack from different direction to make full use of their traps.
The hidden wolves, however, will be used for a back up plan. And each of them had a transmission to report.
The most effective plan that Axel thought would help the most was the Wesleyians’ layered traps. Right now, they must have been looking for their prey. They must have been running to lure the enemies towards their bait to decrease their numbers before they even meet in the center.
The Weslyeians were the best decoy they could used. As the Wesleyeians were the truly ones that August hated, they would surely fall for it. Only it could harm them back if the Crimson Red would beat them in terms of speed and intellectual.
What will happen hereon would depend on each of their capabilities to fight, and outsmart the enemy. And whilst they were taking their sweet time closing the gap, and finding August and his men. Axel was thinking of a back up plan.
Retreating was one thing. But that would only prolong it. What should he do to make sure he could kill their roots?
“They’re here…” Efraim spoke, who was behind.
Axel could hear it. All of them had. Their footsteps. Their muffled chants. Their scents.
They were getting nearer.
Their movement halted. All of them searched the place to prepare themselves for any kind of attack-- may it be physical, or weaponization. Axel walked to get in front where Edward was standing. Where his senses led him.
“Three.. Four…” Edward attentive focus his attention in north, counting the number of presence he could sense. “Five hundred in front.”
“Watch out!”
Axel quickly turned towards the back. There he saw rains of arrows heading their direction. Some had immediately managed to duck, whilst some put up their shield. Apparently, two of them were hit in their right side of the chest.
“Monique!” Axel shouted, transmuting to his wolf formed.
All of them felt alarmed. August’s attack had began, and it was using weapons to distract their attention.
“Be on your guard, they’re here!” Jacob shouted before he transformed to his wolf form.
Monique quickly helped those who were hit. The wolves who reacted in time, transmuted to their wolf form, and locate who attacked using their nose. They were almost late from figuring out that all of them were now running from different direction; just like what Axel had hoped for.
The explosives exploded, making a deafening sound. Creating a fire that burned the leaves of the trees. It was their opportunity to attack, thus, they headed in, following their scents. While Seraphine, who had already tracked the location of those who shots the arrow, made a transmission to Terrance.
They moved. Twenty of the healers left Monique’s group to aid Edward. While ten ran with their wolf form to go after Axel. What remained in the middle supported Jacob, and the rest.
“It is no use. The human August made a deal with must have used technology that is far advance from us.” One of the Wesleyeians’ elder said. “Not to mention that their intellectual ability is already latter-day.”
“It is impossible for us to make something to counter it. I believe, that is something only witches than do.”
Indeed. Wolves were creatives blessed with strength. While some of them may have been a healer, they cannot do witchcraft. They cannot make something happen by spell, nor can they make solution for a certain problem with an incantation. They had no such special prowess.
But at some point, Axel and Efraim thought they could help.
“What about their weakness?” Efraim asked in the middle of the chaos. Aliaga, and the others were protecting them.
“The drug isn’t absolute, Efraim. The human needed test subjects for a reason. It is incomplete. Thus, it is limited. I suspect one dose can only last for half a month. Fifteen days. How long has it been since they’re injected?”
“The time of the attack…” Efraim realized as he thought about it. “The day the tribe was attacked in the Mountain, Elders.”
“Then, it has already weaken. The human probably didn’t tell them, but their prowess, as it is incomplete, is sure to weaken each day.”
“Is that the only one?”
The information was already useful as it is. Had they found it out even before the attack, they would have make good use of it. Unfortunately, they didn’t have enough time.
“The healers blood.”
“The healers blood?”
“It is an injected drug affecting the cells. The healers blood could cleanse it.”
Could.
“I’m sorry, Alpha. But they are getting nearer. We should let the Elders escape first.” Aliaga spoke.
“Take them…” Efraim gave the order. “Let them out, Aliaga. I’m entrusting them to you.”
Efraim then turned his head to another male wolf to gave his order to support Aliaga. He could feel the numbers of the enemy increasing, which meant the horde of them are heading towards them, As their sum probably attracted the Wesleyeians.
Efraim had no time. He told Monique the information he got, and asked every single one of them to connect to everyone. It was rushed, but the information was highly important that it could lead them to victory.
Monique, and the other healers, passed the information to everyone. Especially, those who have the ability to heal. It was yet another new hope. Now, it would be up to each of them how they could utilize it to fight the Crimson Red.
