Chapter Dinner

Veronica was panting when she woke up. She had a dream. It was Morgan who was waiting for her. She closed her eyes and tried to calm herself. In her dream, a man wanted to hurt her son, but Jaxon helped him. It might be because she always thought about Morgan a few days ago. She knew Jaxon still had not found Morgan and her dream might be impossible.

“Hey! Are you okay?” Veron asked. He was sleeping on the floor, and she was asleep in his bed. Veronica gasped and looked at him with tears in her eyes. She clenched the sheet while she lowered her head to hide her sobbing. “Veronica, what happened? Do you have a nightmare?”

“I miss Morgan. I need to find him as soon as possible.” She whispered between her cries.

Veron couldn’t stop himself from feeling pity for her. He understood that her feeling was valid and that she was Morgan’s mother, so she was worried. Morgan had been missing for almost six years and couldn’t stop thinking that his father might be why the young boy still couldn’t be found.

He licked his lips. Veronica was helping him, and he realized he needed to do everything to help her find her son. He was grateful that Veronica had a soft heart despite Helene was being a bitch always to her.

“We will search for him,” he said, assuring her he would help her.

Veronica sighed and forced herself to smile at him before saying, “Thank you, Veron. You know how important my son is to me.”

He took water and gave it to Veronica. He was thinking about the possible place where his father would hide Morgan. His father never mentioned that Morgan was in his area, making him wonder if he was in his place. However, if Morgan wasn’t in his father’s place, maybe he was in the Alpha King Beta’s house.

He knew how evil Uriel’s father was, so he stayed longer beside his father. He was the one who always made the plans that his father wanted to accomplish. He swallowed. He didn’t know much more about Uriel’s father, and he was aware that Uriel might not know about his father, too, since the Beta was more secretive.

Perhaps he needed to ask Uriel more if he knew about his territory so he would have small steps at a time. He left Veronica alone in his room and asked the troop to send someone to fetch Helene in his father’s pack.

“Tell her that Veronica and I will be having dinner. I will wait for her to come here,” he said to the messenger.

He intentionally said those words since he saw Albert, who was watching him intently with curiosity. Albert rushed towards him, which made him emotionless. He noticed how hesitant he was when he saw his expression.

Albert coughed, trying to maintain his calm. He was used to seeing how stoic his face was. He watched the messenger leave the pack.

“Alpha, why are you inviting Helene? You know she’s not on good terms with Veronica. Do you forget how Helene tried to snatch Alpha Jaxon from her?” Albert was sincerely worried that he might make a terrible decision in his life. He couldn’t understand why Helene needed to go in their pack despite Veronica’s past. “Are you forcing Veronica to accept her as her sister-in-law?”

“We already met in my father’s pack. Helene and Veronica decided to be civil. My sister might not easily accept her as my wife, but I know she will not stop me from claiming her.” He only responded.

Albert nodded his head. He was thankful that Veronica began forgetting what Helene had done to her. He realized how good she was and how lucky Veron was to get a woman like her. “You are lucky to have a woman who will do anything so you can be reunited with your family. I think Veronica is such a great catch.”

“She will be your Luna,” Veron stated firmly. He acted as if he was jealous that Albert only called Veronica by her name. He wanted to make his acting work even more so Albert wouldn’t think everything was fake.

“Hey! Alpha, I’m your Beta. You don’t need to get jealous of me because I don’t have any plans to steal her from you!” Albert muttered between his laughs. He held his tummy because it was hurting, and he couldn’t stop himself from chuckling. He couldn’t believe that Veron was more possessive. “You know I have a woman,” he added.

“I don’t care if you have a woman. Please call her by her title. Do you want me to smack your head?” Veron jokingly replied. Sadness invaded his heart from thinking that Albert was the one his father had assigned to spy on him.

“How possessive you are, Alpha Veron. Don’t do something stupid. Maybe it’s a good thing you are with her because I notice how she changed you in a good way.”

Veron was stunned. He didn't know that Veronica was changing him in a good way. Hearing those words made him realize that Albert was honest with him. But still, he wanted to know his intention to be his father's spy.

“I know how pressured you are to be the known Alpha. You must surpass Alpha Jaxon's reign to make sure your father will be more proud of you. You became distant and heartless to anyone. Seriously, I never thought you would fall in love with someone. You always thought having a woman was a weakness, and you don't like being weak. You have cold eyes, and your soul is sad. Right now, your eyes are sparkling as if you already found the reason to live in this world. Veronica might have a child with Alpha Jaxon, but it won't change how good she was as a woman.” Albert couldn't stop himself from expressing his thoughts. Veron was dumbfounded. He didn't know Albert was more observant, but his setup with Veronica was only a show. He needed to guard his heart to prevent herself from getting heartbroken.

“Albert, I don't know you so mushy.” He only commented that made Albert widen his eyes in surprise. He was only trying to say that Veron didn't need to guard his heart because he sometimes had a reason to be happy and live with contentment. All his life, he always did anything to make the Alpha King proud, and he forgot he was doing it because he liked to do it.
