Veronica instantly stopped when Alpha James halted her from what she was going to say. She closed her eyes when Ava arched her brow, trying to see what she was going to say by looking at her. She looked away when Ava didn't avoid her sight.
“You don't need to tell her about it. I am doing everything I can to stop it.” James almost whispered those words, making Ava frown. She disliked knowing James had a secret with Veronica.
“Of course, she has the right to know about your problem. She is your mate! I am only trying to help you!” Veronica could not stop herself from telling what was in her mind. She crossed her arms on her chest and gave him a death glare. “I will give you today to tell everything to her. It is better if you will be honest with my sister.”
“What is it, Alpha James? What do you want to tell me? It is better if you will everything to me so I will finally know what is your—”
James clenched his jaw. He looked away while he shook his head in disbelief, “You don't need to because I know you have your problems. Ava, it is nothing.”
“Oh, if it is nothing then why does my sister want to tell me about it? I don't think she will react this way because of small things.” Ava rolled her eyes. She felt agitated when James had been trying to hide his secret from her. Her lips were in a thin line. “Why don't you say everything to me so I will know if it is important or not?”
“Ava—”
“Tell me everything. I want to know it.” Ava didn't want to stop until James finally exposed what he had been stressing about. The truth was, he was getting mated like he had acted with Ava when Jaxon had amnesia. It was their elders who had been pressuring him to settle down because they thought that their pack wouldn't be successful if they didn't have a Luna.
They wanted him to get mated as soon as possible and while he didn't have his mate, they chose a woman for him to make sure he would still do what they had dealt with. He was visiting Ava, hoping she might consider finally accepting him as her mate.
“I don't want you to choose me because of what you might have found out. That's the reason why I don't want to tell them.” James reasoned out.
“You are overthinking James, what makes you think I will get mad for simple things?” Ava was defensive. She tried to hide the anxiousness she felt.
“Alpha James, tell her what she needs to know. She already said she will not get mad or overreact about it.” Veronica chuckled. She knew her sister so well, and she was sure Ava was only acting as if she was strong enough.
“Veronica, I want to talk with her alone.” James became severe. Veronica nodded and pulled their father to stop him from eavesdropping.
Ava and James had been staring at each other Ava seemed nervous when James sighed.
“I am getting married.” James finally told, making Ava widen her eyes in surprise. Her lips trembled with so much anger and jealousy. She had sex with him and after that, she found out he was getting married.
“Are you fucking kidding me? Alpha James, do you forget we have sex multiple times yet you do not tell me about it?”
“It's because I'm not the one who wants to get mated. They are only pressuring me because I am the Alpha of my pack, I must have my Luna. They believe without my Luna, I will not be successful.” James explained, making Ava think that she might be doing something wrong with him.
Ava nodded, she laughed before she spoke, ”Interesting. Who is the lucky woman? I want to know her personally. She must be thankful to me that I am the one you have practiced with.”
Her time was full of bitterness, but she tried to hide it and she failed. James already noticed that she didn't like what she had heard but she didn't have a choice but to make herself act cool.
“Oh… really?” James tried to hide the pain in his heart. He bit his lips, stopping the emotion that continued mixing in his soul. He closed his eyes when Ava laughed at him. He felt agitated because he felt he wasn't too important. “Do you want to be the guest of my wedding then? Are you so happy for me?”
Ava bit her tongue. Her eyes became emotionless. “It is such an honor if you will invite me to your wedding, Alpha James,” she became sarcastic.
James' face darkened. He disliked how Ava had treated him several times. He did everything for her forgiveness but she made him think he was not worth being her husband made him think Ava only continued trying to push his limits.
“Okay, I can marry her for you,” he mumbled, making Ava stunned. She did not know how she was supposed to react when James turned his back on her and left her alone in the kitchen. She felt that her heart got stabbed, she thought James was only playing with her but she was wrong, she only discovered James left their pack like an obedient child.
She did everything to make her preoccupied. She assigned someone who could secretly look for Morgan from afar. She made sure Alpha Gerry already knew about it and gave her permission.
A day turned week and months when James did not bother her anymore. She was conscious and regretted what she had done.
She rushed toward the sink and vomited a lot when she smelled the cheese in the refrigerator. She disliked it and felt disgusted. She swallowed. The cheese was her favorite, and her father knew about it.
“Ava, are you okay? Do you want me to ask the pack doctor to come here?” It was her father. She panicked. She didn't want him to know about her situation. She swallowed hard when she realized she missed her monthly period. “you are pale, are you sure you are okay?”
She nodded. There were tears in her eyes. She wanted to talk with Veronica but she discovered Veronica was too busy with Veron and Helene because the Alpha King had been investigating their plans. That was the reason why she tripled the troops who would check on Morgan.
“Yes, Dad. I have been stressed lately. You know I have a lot of work I need to do.” she whispered. She swallowed when she realized that she might be pregnant with James' baby. He was the only man she had sex with and she didn't like him to know about it.
“You can take your vacation. What is important here is your health. We are finally getting the Alpha King to his throne.”
“I don't want to. I want to make sure that everything will be fine. I will take my vacation once I find out the Alpha King is dead.”
His father sighed. He didn't say anything again but they stopped talking when one of the troops came inside.
“Alpha…” He stopped from their front, then gave a bow to pay respect to them. “Alpha James comes here. He wants you to give this to you. He says he will wait for you at his wedding.”
Her hands trembled when she received the invitation. Her eyes blurred and felt her chest was about to explode. How dare he invite her to his wedding. She was his mate!
“Alpha James? Where is he? What is happening? Do you reject him?”
She didn't say anything. She opened the invitation letter as her tears continued flowing. She sniffed when she read James' name and her soon-to-be wife.
“Ava, I am asking you. I want to know what happened to the both of you!”
“Dad, is it okay if I follow Alpha James first?”
Her father's mouth parted in disbelief and was about to react when she turned around, and ran so fast. She hoped she would see James waiting for her at the entrance.
“Where is Alpha James? I want to talk with him,” she asked.
“He left our boundary. Do you want me to ask someone to inform him?” One of the troops had asked back.
“You don't need to. I will be the one who will talk to him. Thanks.”
She was panting when she stopped at the boundary, she stared around but she didn't see James. She swallowed hard, and she could not stop sobbing anymore.
“Why are you crying?” James asked. She turned around and her eyes were bloodshot. James seemed sad while he was looking at her directly. She ran towards him, and jumped onto him, making James grab her to make sure she was safe. “Ava..” he mumbled.
“How dare you invite me to your wedding? Do you want me to slap your ass?”
“But, you said you want to see my wedding—”
She did not let her finish his words when she kissed him. James was startled but he answered her and kissed back. He moaned when Ava became more aggressive towards him. He gasped when he felt how hot Ava's body was.
