Melissa's POV
Shocked at what just occurred, I swerved to the horrified face of the other women who stood next to me. The guards weren't let out of surprise too as none of them foresaw what just happened.
Replenished with dismay, I decided to use this opportunity to evade deep into the woods. Quickly before any of the guards present could notice me, I wandered further into the woods and before I acknowledged it, I was far away from the pack gate as the whole occurrence began to swirl through my head making me very appalled.
What just happened?
Who might that woman be?
She looked frightened at the voice of the guard but the look in her eyes when she gazed up at me gave me so many chills In a way I couldn't clarify.
There is something attached to this case not heeding the validity that I have never seen that woman before.
I gazed up at the moon which shone dazzlingly, the woods were as quiet as ever and at one point, I wondered what I was doing in here but the more the declarations crammed my head, the more I found myself advancing deeper into the woods.
A broad sentiment subdued me really tight, I couldn't understand it but I could feel it really intense.
What is this feeling?
What's happening?
What am I doing here?
I was about to lose it in the most unexplainable way but the more I tried to hold it down, the more my feelings were about to explode into so many bits, emotions flowed through my veins endlessly.
An hour passed by and I found myself still lingering deeper in the woods. I knew that I was already too far away from the pack but I just couldn't stop wandering deeper. It was like I was being controlled by a force I just could not explain.
"No! I need to stop!" I proclaimed really loudly as I tightened my eyes but nothing worked, instead, I took another step towards the path I walked.
"Melissa, what are you doing? Where are you going? You need to stop this at once!" I said firmly to myself and still, nothing fruitful yielded from it.
At a point, I came to a halt, my eyes filled with so much tension as the images in my dream flowed in so passionately.
"I am going back to the pack, I can't do this anymore!" I let out affirmatively and without wanting to endanger myself and also to keep the promise I made to Patricia, I turned back and took a step towards the pack.
Suddenly, a familiar scent hit my nose.
I turned around with a widened gaze, the scent was so sharp that it triggered me harder than I have ever felt before.
This scent!
Yes!
This scent!
It overwhelmed me so deeply that I could myself walk towards the direction it came from, the scent was so addicting that I couldn't understand what I was doing or the danger that lay ahead on the part I was already embarking on.
A soft wind began to blow, shoving the leaves on the trees around as some passed through me, my hair swinging in different directions.
As I walked further, the scent got stronger and more familiar. I was trying so hard to know who it might belong to but the more I thought, the more it appeared more difficult than I had ever imagined, making me so incredibly puzzled.
Someone was present with me!
Yes indeed!
I could feel it but I couldn't see anyone at first. Not minding this, I walked on further and to my greatest shock, a body caught my eyes.
At first, I found it strange to see a body in the woods. I couldn't confirm if it was that of a human or an animal, the body laid still not moving which made me ponder on if it's dead or alive.
"Hello" I said, taking careful steps closer to the body. The more I tried to stay away, the more my whole body was fixed on going deeper and getting to know what is just a few feet away from me.
"Hello!" No response.
The fear in me vanished at once and just a foot away from the body, a farmilar face caught my attention and my eyes flew wide open in terror.
"Nelson!" I cried out in horror, fell on my knees right next to his body and wrapped my arms around him.
His face was covered in scratches and blood stains, even his clothes were ripped about into bits and by just looking at him, it was clear that he was attacked by a pack of werewolves who wanted nothing but to have him dead.
"Nelson!" I screamed not caring if my voice could attract any werewolves around, a sharp pain hung so tight in my chest and it was at this point I knew what my dream meant, a dream that led me to Nelson who looked like he was dead.
Deep guilt overwhelmed me and before I could realize it, tears welled up in my eyes at the words of Conri begging that I talk Nelson against his decision on facing the hunters werewolves alone.
"Nelson! Please wake up" I cried, wrapping my arms around him too tight, his thick black hair so close to my nose that I could smell his scent mixed with that of dried blood.
For how long has he been here?
I knew he left the pack early that morning but was his attack made as soon as he got to the crossroad?
I looked up, the moon shone so bright that I could clearly see the trees and paths. There was no crossroad which I knelt, definitely, he was dragged down here and left to die.
I looked at Nelson, this time with tears streaming down my eyes. Emotions filled me and it was at that point that I knew I indeed cared for him not regarding our toxic relationship.
"Don't so this Nelson"
"You should have listened to Conri"
"You should have heed to the words of your Beta!"
"I need to get you back to the pack but I have absolutely no idea, don't do this, please get up" I shook him countlessly but he laid still moving, it was like his soul had completely vanished from his body, a thought which brought so much fear in my heart.
Not thinking that I would lose him, bitterness subduing me, I dragged him closer to my bosom, my fingers all over his face as I tried to wake him up.
"Nelson! You have to get up!"
"Get on your feet right now!"
"You are the Alpha!"
"Your pack needs you!"
"You can't just abandon everything here!"
"Please wake up! I know how much you hate me but that doesn't matter right now, you have to get up on your feet, please!" I shook him severally but still, Nelson lay still not moving. At that point, I felt so weak and pressed my face on his with tears streaming down my face.
The moonlight became brighter, shining right on us. At first, I didn't notice, I was filled with sorrow and my heart was breaking.
"Nelson, please wake up, don't die on me, I beg you" I cried sobbing loudly in the dark woods of the night.
"Why haven't any of his men sent forth to look for him!"
"It's already late at night and no one had come for him" I sobbed uncontrollably with closed eyes, my tears soaked face not leaving his face.
Suddenly, the sound of galloping feet drew me, I looked up only to find a running wolf coming straight towards where I sat with Nelson's lifeless body.
"Melissa!" A familiar voice cried out as the wolf stared at me deeply surprised.
"Conri!" I muttered immediately recognizing the voice. Great hope filled my heart and I quickly wiped my tears as I stared at Conri in his wolf form.
I have never seen him this way and just viewing him In this way surprised me that for a moment, I forgot what I was meant to say to him.
"What are you doing here?" Conri asked, I watched his eyes glanced at Nelson who laid in my arms and back at me.
"I knew that something was wrong, it's been hours since he left the pack this morning and hasn't returned. Here…" he paused, coming closer to me as he sniffed really hard.
"Try to carry him on me, I will have to take you two back to the pack"
I glanced at Nelson, to my shock, the scars on his face were no more except for the blood stains.
Shocked, I narrowed my gaze, staring intently, something really seemed off because I was sure of the scars on his face a few minutes ago.
"Is anything wrong Melissa?" Conri asked.
Still looking surprised, I gazed up at him not hiding my amazement but I couldn't utter a word at first.
Of course, Conri would believe me
Who will?
"I…I…" I stammered trying to find the appropriate words to say but nothing came out making me do muteless.
"I don't think I have enough strength to carry him up to your back," I replied, gulping down really hard.
Conri eyes didn't leave me, "Then I guess you will have to see me naked"
My jaw dropped at his words, "Naked?"
"Yes, Naked Melissa! I am in my wolf form and wolves don't put on clothes. If you won't be comfortable, then I guess it's best you close your eyes and open them at my say"
I gulped harder this time, my gaze not leaving him as he nodded in assertion.
