Chapter Pain and determination

Even though I was expecting to hear such a statement because she's angry and feels I betrayed her. It still hurts to hear her say she hates me.

"Ash, baby please don't do this. We can talk about this later, but not right now. You need urgent medical attention. I need to help you to the waiting ambulance." I plead with her, my hands outstretched to take hers but she's not having it.

"No, I don't need your help. I will manage by myself, and mind you, the moment I'm strong enough, I'm leaving your pack. I don't ever want anything to do with you again!" She says furiously. Then slowly, she returns to sitting on the chair.

'She wants to leave and does not ever want anything to do with me again!'

I feel a sudden rush of cold sensation wash over me at the thought of her leaving me but I assure myself it's just wishful thinking. I will never let her go. I won't let her out of my sight from now on, even if it means putting her in a heavily guarded room, then I'll do it.

"Ash!... C'mon! Please let me help you." I plead again as she holds tightly to the car door as support to pull herself up.

She's determined not to have my help. She looks so frail I'm afraid even the slightest wind will blow her away. The moment she let go of the door and tries to walk forward by herself, her legs give way but I quickly move to catch her before she falls to the ground.

"She's so pale. She's lost so much blood already, hurry! Let's get her in the ambulance" I hear Anders's voice say beside me.

"She's unconscious..." I try to mask my fear as I worriedly say out loud.

"Yes, I can see that." He replies as we both hurry to the ambulance.

We arrive at the ambulance and I place her on the waiting stretcher. I feel someone pat me on the shoulder, I look back to see Elias, my Uncle.

"She's going to be okay son, don't worry too much about it. Everything is going to be okay." He says and I nod in gratitude. I guess I'm not able to mask my fear after all. It must have been clearly written for everyone to see.

I enter the ambulance after she has been placed inside and my dad enters with me. Although I would have preferred it if it was Eric but I'm happy for my dad's support all the same. We've really bonded and got to know more of each other in the past three days that we've been going around and attending meetings together.

I hold Ash's hand as Anders works on fixing IV in her other hand.

"The weather is warm, why is her hand so cold?" I worriedly ask as I gently rub her hand in a futile attempt to make her warm.

"Anemia," Anders replies. "She's lost so much blood, and it's not only because she miscarried."

"Miscarried!?" I stupidly repeat what I already suspected might happen with a grave feeling in my heart. Even after the information she told me she read in a book a doctor gave her and the amount of blood she lost, the news of losing our baby still comes as a great shock to me.

"Yes, I'm so sorry man. There's nothing I could have done to save the fetus at this stage..." Anders says with a deep sigh and I nod, staring into space.

"Hey, are you okay?" My dad asks with a tight grip on my shoulder.

I glance at him and nod

"Yeah... I'm worried about her. I– I don't know what..."

"She's in good hands. She's going to be okay, alright?" He interrupts, gripping my shoulder tighter

"Yes..." I say, watching Anders as he works.

"You said it isn't only because she miscarried, what other reasons are there?" My dad asks

"Yeah, she didn't just suddenly become Anemic because of the miscarriage. I doubt if she was able to keep any nutrients down while pregnant. The first trimester is intensely difficult in some pregnancies.

As for the heavy bleeding, the older the fetus the heavier the blood will be if the mother miscarried. Just as with the amount of blood you’ll see, the duration of a miscarriage also varies from person to person and even from pregnancy to pregnancy.

Bleeding may start as light spotting, or it could be heavier and appear as a gush of blood. As the cervix dilates to empty the blood and tissue, the bleeding becomes heavier.

The Luna's pregnancy was about ten weeks old but the blood she'd lost is heavier than what I considered to be normal. I'll run some tests on her but for me to quickly understand the situation, I've mind-linked Eric to help reach out to her doctor for her file"

"Okay... Uhm, you said the pregnancy was ten weeks old?" I ask to be sure I hear what I thought I heard.

"Yes. It was already eight weeks when Eric called me to give her a check-up two weeks ago..."

My mind instantly feels hollow and I unconsciously stop listening to the rest of his explanation. Ash was ten weeks pregnant! How can that be!? How could she be ten weeks pregnant when I've barely spent six weeks in America?

Was she with another man before me? Did I send her to prison because she cheated on me?...

No, that can't be! Didn't she already say something about me sending her to prison because I wanted a blue blood she-wolf for a mate? Besides, we have a special mate bond, I would have known the moment she cheated. There must be a logical explanation for this

"Thor?... Hey!" I hear my dad's voice calling through the jumbled-up thoughts in my mind and I turn to face him

"We're here. We've arrived at Alpha's mansion, "he says.

"C'mon, everything will be clearer to you soon." He said this in a whisper and I nod

I look outside the window and I see the ambulance is just pulling to a stop in front of the mansion. Anders pushes the door open and we all get out.

"Is it necessary for her to stay in the infirmary ward? I want her in my room where I can keep a close watch on her." I tell Anders

"No, it's not going to be convenient for me to effectively carry out her treatment if I keep shuffling from..."

"I'm not paying you for your convenience Anders, find a way!" I snap, interrupting him mid-sentence before directing the stretcher toward the main wing. I don't care if he thinks I'm being irrational. I'm not going to leave any slight space for Ash to carry out her threat of leaving me.

"Yes, Alpha. I'll leave you guys to get her upstairs then while I go get some stuff that I'll be needing for her treatment." He says and hurries off.

Inside my room.

"You didn't answer the healer when he asked if you want the miscarriage to pass naturally or you want it to pass quickly with the aid of medication." My dad says while we wait for Ella and the other maids to get everything ready for Ash to be cleaned and settled in bed

I look at him with surprise

"He asked that?" I ask since I don't remember hearing Anders ask that during our conversation in the ambulance.

"Yeah, you zoned out at some point... I don't think she cheated on you, Thor. I'm sure there's a logical explanation for this. Let's get her settled in first and then ask Eric to fill you in on everything you've missed. I'm not sure he would have done everything he did for her if he knew she was carrying another man's pup."

"We're ready. You men should excuse us so we can get her cleaned and in bed." Ella walks to where we're waiting to say

"You go ahead Pops, I'll meet you later," I tell my dad and he nods

"I'll be with Elias..." He says as he leaves

I turn back to Ella

"If you've got everything ready then you should all go and attend to other things. I'll clean and get her ready for Anders, myself."

"Yes, General..." She replies, hesitates then says "I'm sorry about the baby... Uhm, I'll be waiting outside, just in case you need anything."
