After the seer's warning/prophecy has been delivered, my dad wants us to immediately call Alpha Nate to let him know Ash is his lost daughter. Even though I know it's the right thing to do, especially when he told me her mother had always had reservations about Miranda, and Eric added what Alpha Nate told him about her suspicions towards their maid, Celine...
I still strongly disagreed with him. For one thing, I don't want Ash to meet her parents yet because I'm scared she would finally reject me like she had threatened to if she got to know her family name.
My dad tries to make me see reason but I remain adamant. I will keep her away from her parents for as long as it would take her to forgive me and forget about rejecting our mate bond.
It's when the seer assures me that she cannot reject me because of the special mate bond we shared between us that I finally heave a sigh of relief. My mate and I are stuck with each other as the humans usually say; till death do us part.
As soon as the seer assured me, my dad brought out his phone to call Alpha Nate but I still want us to wait. I suggest we go together and inform them instead because of two reasons...
One. I have a feeling that the news of them being her real parents might come as a shock and be upsetting to her. I don't want her to be upset any more than she already is. I want to talk to her about them first. I want her to get used to the news and be prepared to meet them instead of just shoving them down her throat.
And two. Who knows who might be listening in on Alpha Nate's conversation if we inform him about his daughter on the phone? I don't want to unknowingly tip the maid, Celine, and his stuck-up Beta off and have them escape before I'm able to have them in my custody.
After the most important issues have been discussed, I find it hard to concentrate on the rest of the discussion. I can't wait for the meeting to end so I can get back to my mate.
It feels like the longest three hours of my life. When it finally ends, I hurry up the stairs to go check on her. Even though I'd earlier asked Ella to go stay with her and call me immediately when she wakes up, I still can't help but overthink things, telling myself...
'Maybe she's awake and ask Ella not to inform me.
Is she still angry with me?
Is she still thinking about leaving me?'
I enter my room and find Anders there, changing Ash's IV while Ella watches intently.
"General..." She greets me with a bow and I nod back to her in appreciation
"Thank you, Ella," I say and she smiles back
"Alpha..." Anders also greeted me with a slight bow
"Hey, doc..." I say, nodding back at him. "How's she doing?"
"Her vital signs are great. Everything looks good. Ella said she's been sleeping since so there's no way for me to tell if she's still bleeding more than necessary from the amount of time she would have changed her pad."
"Okay but what about nutrients? I'm not sure if she has had anything to eat since morning." I worriedly say when I remember their lunch was cannoned at me like a weapon.
"That's not a problem. The nutrients she needed, for now, have been included in her IV. She can start taking normal food whenever she wakes up. If she's up for it."
"And what kind of food are we expected to give her? Does anything go?" Ella asks this time.
I look at her thankfully before directing my gaze back to Anders for his reply.
"Right now, her iron level is low because of blood loss. She would need to start eating a balanced diet that is high in iron and vitamin C. Red meat, shellfish, eggs, beans, leafy green vegetables, citrus fruits, tomatoes, broccoli... You get?" He says
"Of course..."
"Sure..."
Ella and I reply at once and he nods
"That's it then. This IV will finish in about two hours. I'll come back then to take it out."
"Okay, thank you," I say
I wait till the door closes behind Anders before I ask Ella...
"When did she leave?" I ask about Victoria
"Immediately after I arrived. The Luna was sleeping, she just sat there by her bed." She replies pointing to the chair she stood up from.
I nod
"Okay, thank you, Ella. You may leave for now."
"Yes... She might wake up any moment so I'll go see to her food. Just call me whenever you want me to bring it over."
"That would be great, Ella. Thank you."
"Yes sir!" She replies with a smile and leaves.
For a while, after Ella had left, I continued to look at Ash on the bed. She doesn't look as pale as before. Anders was right about her recovery. I reach into my pocket and bring out the old phone that Eric handed to me after the meeting. I remember weeks ago when I was very curious about her and started gathering evidence because Eric wouldn't tell me anything.
I recall puzzle piece five evidence that arose because he had intentionally uninstalled Google Photos from my new phone to prevent me from finding out information about my mate. I remember noting down...
'The fastest way to unravel the mystery of my life is to install Google Photos back into my phone'
Well, I have my old phone back but there's no need for those pieces of evidence anymore. I'm still curious though. I hold the phone, just looking at it, considering whether to open it or not. I don't know what it holds, and since there's no way to tell if I will be able to keep my emotions in check if I eventually find out what's inside, I decided against opening it right in the presence of Ash.
'I will open it later whenever I'm alone.' I tell myself before placing it on the nightstand.
Now, what do I do to while away time? I hate being idle. It drives me crazy.
Then I remember I have files from my company directors and pack business that had piled up, waiting for my attention. I decided to start with my company files since I know Eric would have informed me if there were pack matters that needed my urgent attention. I bring my laptop over to where I'm sitting by Ash's side, log in, and open a business proposal file to read the content.
I however give up reading after about thirty minutes that I've been stuck on the introduction page. I hadn't even gotten past the first paragraph. I guess I can't concentrate because deep down, I know I don't want to read business files. What I really want is to see the content of my Google Photo app.
I close the laptop. I will get the phone and satisfy my curiosity. I say to myself. When I look up, I see Ash had woken up. She's staring at me intently with a deep frown on her face
