Chapter 99

Julitta could not withstand Diana's glares and every time she tried to raise the topic, Calhoun always changed the subject to something unrelated.

Diana noticed this as well but she assumed Calhoun was doing it to make her feel better about the report.

When Calhoun left to check on Elizabeth in the clinic, Julitta used the opportunity to go and see Diana in their chamber. When she knocked, Diana came to answer the door and seeing it was her, she made to close it but Julitta grabbed her hand quickly.

"Let go, Julitta!" Diana snapped. "Will you also make advances at me?"

Julitta was surprised by the allegations. Make advances at her? She was straight!

"What? No! I won't ever do that, it's gross."

"But it's not gross to make advances at Calhoun," Diana murmured.

Julitta hadn't heard what she said and just held onto her more firmly. "Look, Diana, I only came to confess."

Diana gasped softly. She knew it was true, she believed Calhoun but somewhere, she just wanted to hear Julitta deny it even if it was just a little.

"So it is true."

"Oh come on! He said he wasn't going to tell you. How come he did exactly that?" Julitta groaned. "Look, just hear me out, please-"

"I can't. Allow me to go, Julitta. I can't be friends with a deceit and a liar and a cheat!"

"I didn't do anything -"

"Of course." Diana rolled her eyes. "And Calhoun would just choose to lie against you."

Julitta sighed deeply. "I'm sorry, Diana. I didn't mean to do it. Honestly, I was just jealous and -"

"You were jealous? Why will you be jealous?" Diana asked. Suddenly she found it amusing. The one person she bragged about was jealous of her and wanted to steal her man.

"Julitta, we are soul sisters. How can you be so jealous ... And of what?"

"The way she won your heart, I don't know, I felt like she could easily replace me and that's why I lied," Julitta said sadly.

Diana became confused. "Huh? Who?"

Julitta raised her head too. "Elizabeth...?"

"What about Elizabeth?" Diana asked. She suddenly had the feeling that something had happened which she was unaware of. Calhoun said that Julitta was guilty because she had made advances at him and he not only refused but also threatened to tell Diana. How come she was talking about Elizabeth?

"Well, the truth is that Elizabeth did not push Coco into the water," Julitta said softly. "I did."

"What?"

Diana was stunned. She believed Julitta over Elizabeth and left the girl to drown after saving her son. How could Julitta be this evil? First going after her man, now lying against someone else and all because she was jealous?

"I didn't mean to, I swear. I felt bad and insecure about my position in Coco's life and I hoped that I wasn't going to be replaced. She came and started talking to me and I got really mad and while I was waving around frantically, I hit the stroller and he fell into the water."

"Then why was she the one who came to save him?"

"I can't swim," Julitta answered.

"Being a wolf gives you the advantage, idiot. Even if you can't swim, you can't easily die from drowning." Diana raged. "You not only endangered my son's life, you also endangered Ellie's life. Julitta, I don't know what you've become."

"I'm sorry, I didn't know how to face you-"

"Where is she? Is she still alive?" Diana asked.

Julitta shook her head. "Last night, I went back to check if she was there so I could help her out but then Calhoun came around and-"

"Calhoun?" Diana interrupted. "Calhoun never left all through the night."

"I know this sounds crazy, but he did. He showed up and teased me about -"

"Teased you?" Diana reiterated. Julitta didn't know why Diana was picking those words so she nodded.

"About coming back to be sure Elizabeth was dead. I tried to deny it but he already knew what had happened. He pushed me into the water and pulled me up by the hair."

Diana was confused. She didn't know who to believe. Calhoun hadn't left the bed all night, but he was a master of tricks with both words and action so there was a chance that he did and the only way she could know was if she asked him, but that still depended on if he was willing to tell the truth.

Julitta heard some footsteps approaching and she turned to find Calhoun coming. As soon as their eyes met, she became afraid. Calhoun smirked. Just what he wanted.

"Diana, Julitta, let's all go to the meeting chamber, now!"

"Calhoun, you have a lot of-"

"As of now, it's not your husband who is ordering you, but the king, the alpha. Both of you, to the meeting chamber, now." Calhoun ordered.

The two ladies moved ahead of him. He entered the chamber and picked up his son. Then he went out to join them in the meeting chamber. Diana had a small frown on her face and Julitta's face was full of fear.

"Don't be afraid yet, I still have something for you," Calhoun stated. "I take it that she has confessed her crimes to you?"

Diana nodded slowly. "But she didn't mention anything about what you told me."

"Hm, I lied," Calhoun said casually. "I wanted to make her paranoid so that she could confess by herself."

"What? Then why did you lie to me?"

"I just told you, I wanted to make her paranoid so she could confess by herself," Calhoun repeated.

Diana rolled her eyes. "Why, couldn't you have told me yourself?"

"I promised her that I wasn't going to tell you what happened at the pond last night," Calhoun said.

"When did you promise her?" Diana asked.

Calhoun glanced at Julitta. "Last night."

Diana sighed. She placed her head in her hands, tired. "Oh my god."

"Hm. Anyway, I have a surprise for you both." Calhoun announced. "Ellie, come out."

They turned to the door by the side where Ellie walked out from. She was pale and shaky and unsteady. Diana hurried to help her and the girl seemed wary of Diana.

"Ellie, I'm so sorry! Gosh, I'm so sorry!" She begged. "Can you ever forgive me?"

Elizabeth stared into Diana's eyes. "I tried to tell you that she was lying, you didn't believe me. You let me drown and I would have died if Alpha Calhoun did not dive in to save me. I was losing so much blood because instincts made me jump to save Coco and I didn't know that-"

"The pond is shallow," Diana whispered. "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry Ellie. Can you forgive me?"

Elizabeth sighed. "For the sake of the boy, yes. Is he better now? That water must have been cold and being thrown in so suddenly, he must have been frightened."

"Nah, he is strong like his father." Calhoun bragged. Ellie chuckled slightly.

"So long as he's good, I'm alright too. I think though that I still need to stay a little while in the hospital to get more blood-"

"It's fine, stay here. The banquet is later tonight and there will be a lot of wine and meat. Very good for you right now." Diana said.

Julitta was feeling worse and worse with every nice word that was spoken to Elizabeth. She felt that the ground was going to open and swallow her.

Elizabeth raised her gaze to meet Julitta's embarrassed ones.

"Hi." She said, smiling softly.

Julitta was even more embarrassed. "hi, um, ... How do you feel?"

Elizabeth shrugged. "Better. I think I have to leave."

Diana shook her head, "You're not going anywhere. You stay here. Okay?"

Elizabeth nodded. Calhoun watched the show with amusement and after they had settled, Diana called for a maid to take Elizabeth to a special room where she could rest. After the maid left with Elizabeth, Julitta felt even more uncomfortable. She stood up and excused herself.

Diana glared at Calhoun but he only chuckled. "Don't glare at me, I did what I had to do. We can't have such a sad ending after the battles we face together."

"What sad ending? Are we going to die?" Diana refuted. "You always find an excuse for your actions."

"Let's go out for a walk in the snow," Calhoun announced.

Diana glared all the more. "My son and I-"

"Ah, women." Calhoun sighed and then hummed bitterly. "Today's my son, tomorrow he should be our son. Sighs."

"Brat!" Diana muttered. "My son and I are underdressed for a walk in the snow. We don't have enough clothes to dress up as well."

Calhoun understood her plight. "I only wanted us to be away while those two would settle and while the servants would make the castle even more beautiful for the banquet. After all, it might just become a wedding banquet."

"Wedding banquet? Who and who are getting married?" Diana asked excitedly.

"Us," Calhoun replied.

Diana stared at him. "Us?"

"Yes, us. You and I. We're getting married."

She blushed. "Oh, we are. Well, I did get us something nice to wear."

Calhoun smirked. "I know you did. And I've been waiting for you to show it to me."

Diana giggled. "Cheesy. Let's go and see it, shall we?"

Calhoun stood up and held her hand. Slowly, he raised it to his lips and kissed it. He led her back to the chamber and sat her on the bed. Diana watched to see what he was up to but the man opened his wardrobe and the clothes she had gotten were revealed. Her question was, how did Calhoun get the clothes?

"Don't look too surprised. We have to call someone else to do your make-up, although I quite prefer you in this manner."

Diana rolled her eyes at him. "Calhoun, you even prefer me naked so there's no way I'm taking advice from you."

"Yeah, you look more beautiful when you're naked and blushing all shades of red. And when your eyes do that thing where they roll upwards when I touch-"

"Calhoun, our son can hear and understand you perfectly." Diana interrupted. Her cheeks were burning.

Calhoun chuckled. "That's even better. At least he learns from the best. He would grow up to become so intelligent and ah, I can't wait to see how cruel he will be."

"My son will be good and kind to the people." Diana refuted.

"There's no way that can happen. He has my blood-"

"And mine too." Diana reminded. "He has mine so there's a chance he will be like me."

"That's also good. You're so cruel, you don't even know." Calhoun accused.

"Cruel? How so?"

"You left the man you love, unsympathetically. You killed those people due to rage and yet you claim you're kind? You're just like my mother. Wearing a sweet smile to disguise the cruelty within. That way, you keep everyone around you on their toes." Calhoun explained.

"It's unlike me that shows all parts of my cruelty. So yes, if Coco becomes like you, I'll be even more proud of him."

Diana was dumbfounded. Here she was, wishing for her son to be as soft as she was and Calhoun just opened her eyes to see that she was nothing soft at all. She was even more cruel than he was because she never showed it, and she never even knew about it.

"At this point, I'm starting to wish he becomes more like you," Diana said. "About the wedding, did you invite your family members? And the court people?"

"Yes, yes. My father's family members and the court officials are going to be here tonight."

"Then we have to look our best," Diana stated.

"Nah, our best is just for our eyes only. How can the couple of the day make an appearance, naked?"

"Calhoun!" She hit him on the torso. "Don't say such shameless words before our son."

Calhoun turned to Coco who found the situation amusing as well. He tapped Calhoun's nose and giggled.

"Apa." He said.

Calhoun was pleased and he smiled genuinely. His son had finally noticed him, nothing else made sense again.
