She cuddled Coco to her chest, feeling all the fright in the world. Now as much as she wanted to go out and fight, she also wanted to keep a low profile. The soft knocks continued for a long time until it was almost midnight, then it stopped.
Diana's eyes were wide open and she wasn't in any mood at all. She got up when she noticed the knock hadn't resounded for another two minutes. She walked slowly to the door again. Right as she stood there, she heard a loud banging on her door and she jolted in fright, almost dropping her baby.
Diana barely managed not to gasp aloud. After the loud bang, she saw a white envelope slip under her door and she heard the sound of footsteps leaving her door. The sound got more and more distant until it faded away completely. Diana exhaled sharply. She used her foot to touch the letter and it remained in the same position. She stepped on it and it didn't move.
She bent down to pick it up. As soon as she picked it up, she felt a cold breeze pierce through her skin. Diana turned sharply to find her window opened. Confused, scared, and bothered, she walked over to the window, poked her head out, and looked left and right. She saw a lone figure in the distance, staring right back at her. Who was that anyway? She couldn't make out the person's features but she knew that the person was staring back at her and it made her uncomfortable.
She took her head back in and shut the window, making sure she locked it this time around. Once she was done, she returned to her bedroom. The bed was neatly made.
"Okay, what the hell is going on?!" She whispered. "Why is everything strange happening to me right now?"
Nevertheless, she knew she couldn't sit and recline in her fright, so she laid Coco down on the bed and sat beside him as well. Switching on her lamp, Diana felt like maybe she could also leave the strange letter for the following day.
Curiosity got the better part of her and she carefully placed the lit lamp on the small table. She opened the letter carefully. It was obviously from someone in Fraco.
I am watching you.
Diana scoffed disbelievingly. Someone went through all this stress to scare her and the only thing they could say in their letter was that they were watching her. She scoffed.
"Yeah okay." She murmured. Sighing softly, she placed the letter beside the lamp and lay beside her son. She turned the lamp low and slept off. Her heart which had been jolted to a frenzy had suddenly become calm.
The next time she opened her eyes, it was morning already. She yawned tiredly. Perhaps she could just continue the mail job since applying to join the army would take more time. She turned to check the letter she had received earlier on and it wasn't on the desk.
She raised the lamp and checked behind the desk and all around it, it was nowhere to be found.
Diana's eyes were void of sleep again. She could no longer understand how strange things were happening. Was it because Calhoun had somehow figured that she was in Fraco?
Was this his doing? She knew that the man was full of tricks. If this was his doing then the need to escape was even more.
She got up from the bed and found the letter there.
"How...?"
She grabbed it from the bed and opened it again. It was still the same message from the previous night.
"Well, that is surprising, because everything else has been changed." She muttered. "Coco, let's go have a shower! You're going to become a soldier today." She cooed. The boy giggled, being tickled by his mother.
Diana loved his eye color and the way they somehow changed when the lighting was different. Being inside, his eyes looked more golden than green. When they would go out, his eyes would look more green than golden.
She loved the difference in it. It made her think about his father a lot and that was the only thing she didn't like about it.
Diana took the boy to the bathroom and bathed him. She soaked herself in the water as well. To save time and also because she didn't trust leaving her son alone in any part of the house after last night's event. After their bath and dressing, Diana received another mail. It was from Eugene.
He was extremely pleased with her for considering his proposal and joining the army. He would inform the army chief commander to take her personally under his wing and teach her.
Diana felt it was unnecessary. If she wanted attention, she knew how to get it. After saying she didn't want to make any waves, this is Eugene becoming the tsunami she imagined Calhoun to be.
"Well, it's not for naught." She said, shrugging.
She began to pack their things into a small bag.
"One year and seven months, I have moved three times. I lived twenty-three years in Wisteria and I moved from my house to the castle."
Coco stared at her as she spoke as if he understood what she was saying. Diana turned to smile at him. The boy smiled back at her.
"Julitta will be so surprised to see us, Coco," Diana said. "She will never expect me to suddenly want to join the army!"
"I would have never expected to join the army either. I guess I have to do all I can to protect Wisteria even from afar."
"It's only Wisteria Coco, I don't care about your father anymore. I have zero feelings for him." She exclaimed. Coco giggled at her words.
Diana chuckled. "You little whelp thing! You dare to mock your mother?"
Coco giggled harder. Diana smiled. "Just like your father, huh? Haven't even met him and you already love him so much."
"Alright! Let's head to the battleground."
She struggled out of the house only to find a car waiting for her. Diana paused in front of the car, wondering what was going on.
"Good morning madam, the governor had instructed me to bring you to the base to meet the chief commander." The man said, after coming out of the car. He rounded off the car and helped her with her small luggage which he placed carefully in the back seat.
"Front or back?" He asked, holding the two doors open. Diana went to the front seat. She wanted to learn the ways and also wanted to see the way things were done.
"Front it is." The man said, slamming the back door shut. Once Diana was seated properly, he carefully closed the door.
He returned to the driver's seat and sat down, revving the engine to life.
"This is the car used by the chief commander when he is on his break. He was instructed by the governor to bring you so he sent me with his car. I am his driver, Petyr."
"Oh. Hello Petyr, I am-"
"Diana. I know that." He said, offering her a smile. "Everyone is expecting to see who the important woman is, that the governor himself is suggesting to the army."
"Oh, I thought my coming was private and not loud," Diana said. She held Coco to her bosom and the boy relaxed. She was very grateful to have a quiet child. It helped her especially since she was also getting settled in a country that was too foreign to her.
"Your son?" He asked, glancing at Coco.
"Yes," Diana said proudly, looking down at Coco as well. "Such an angel he is."
"Yes. So quiet. Some kids would have begun to yell and cry and shout, making their mothers embarrassed and confused." Petyr commented.
"I like that he is so quiet and calm."
Diana smiled.
"What's his name?"
"Coco."
"How nice. Short for what?" Petyr asked. He never actually expected that Coco would be someone's full name.
"Oh, it's just Coco," Diana answered. "There's no full name."
The man nodded. After a few minutes of silence, the man began to horn severally which Diana also noticed was in a pattern.
"This is how the security can determine whose car is approaching," Petyr exclaimed. "This is the pattern which the chief commander uses."
Diana nodded. It was nice to learn such things as well. If this was how information quickly spread to all the soldiers then she expected to have a wonderful time being with them.
Petyr waved at the security who opened the gates for him and drove Diana straight to the chief commander's office. He came down and opened the door for her.
"I shall be parked here, waiting for you. When you are assigned to your dorm, I will drive you there." He said.
Diana nodded and walked towards the door of the office. She knocked softly.
"Come in."
She turned the doorknob and entered the office. The place was cozy and the first look at the man, she could tell he was a werewolf as well. She smirked. Another naive prisoner of Eugene's nefarious plan.
"Diana, right?" He asked, not looking up.
"Yes sir," Diana replied. "The driver dropped me here. He said you will give me everything I need."
"You have a baby? You do know that we don't usually allow nursing mothers to be here. The child is supposed to be home with his father." He said. "I'm Jasyn."
"His father is no more," Diana said.
"Dead?"
"Ran away," Diana answered.
The man nodded as if it was a common thing to him. "Well, the governor has assigned two ladies who will assist you in caring for your child. I have no idea why but he says he sees victory in you."
"At least he sees something right," Diana murmured, forgetting that she was seated before a werewolf.
The man chuckled. "Well, the downside to that is your child will of course remain at the health center. Which also means that he is open to health-related issues and complications." He said. "Are you okay with that?" He asked and finally looked up to see who he was talking with. Jasyn was struck by Diana's beauty and he instantly began to drool.
"No, I am not." Diana refuted. "Isn't there a way in which they can work and care for the child? We are still in training so it's not as if I will be away for even a full day."
"I... I'm sure we can work something out." He said, stuttering slightly. He immediately got a hold of himself. "Your eyes... They're pretty."
"Thank you," Diana said firmly. "Can I have the details of my stay here?"
"How long do you plan to be in the army?" Jasyn asked, putting the documents together.
"A year," Diana answered. "I'm only here because Eugene asked me to. I still plan to find my son's father."
"That's good," Jasyn said, instantly remembering she has a child for another man.
"Well, in that case, I will have Petyr take you to your dorm and introduce you to the nurses and he will take you to the training ground. The other soldiers are there and will receive you."
Diana nodded once. "Thank you."
"Note Diana, that you will be given strenuous tasks to perform before you can be accepted fully," Jasyn warned. "I do hope you are everything Eugene has said. Otherwise, if the soldiers say you should not be taken without severe training, we shall do that."
"Okay," Diana said. She got up and left the office. Petyr drove her to her dorm. Luckily, she was in the same dorm as Julitta but was assigned a different room.
"Can I not choose the room where I shall be kept?" She asked Petyr.
"You're still new and the only thing you care about is to make demands?" A hard voice came from behind her. "How did you even manage to get in here so high and with a child too? Who's child is he, Eugene's?"
Diana could feel a rage enveloping her and she turned angrily, ready to devour.
