Chapter 32

Yolanda smirked at Diana's rage. She loved that she could easily rile the woman up. She was the only female commander and she was next in line to the chief commander, Jasyn. She had been very excited when she was given the position, she felt it would be easier to gain his attention in that position but the man proved to be very concerned about Eugene's matters and every other thing about Fraco.

Jasyn would never even spare her a second glance, but he did spare her first glances and that was way more than he had done to everyone else. She was also the closest to him so when she heard they were recruiting another female soldier who Eugene had put in so many good words for, she had to hurry and see for herself, what kind of woman she was that the governor himself would suggest to the army.

She saw Diana as a threat to her position and she didn't like it one bit. She didn't like the fact that Diana was not only pretty but had also gained the height she had always wanted.

She also heard that Jasyn had taken his time to speak to her, and he never did that. She swore to make the woman stay hellish until she got frustrated and left, otherwise, the woman must bow to her. She also hoped that Diana would be brought under her group and that she would deal mercilessly with her.

Yolanda was just arriving at her soldiers' training ground when she heard them mention something about Diana's coming. Angered, she marched to Jasyn's office to ask about her.

Jasyn said, "Oh you must have missed her. Perhaps because Petyr took her to her dorm in the car, but you can just hurry now, I'm sure you will catch up before she begins to settle down."

She smiled outwardly while she seethed inwardly. Now she was even running after her to catch up? Grinding her teeth, she walked as fast as she could, without it being seen as her running after Diana. She arrived just in time to hear her mention choosing the room she was to stay in.

Because there were more than enough rooms, every female soldier could choose where they wanted to sleep. But she wasn't going to tell her that, she was going to make sure Diana knew that she was in charge.

"Oh, would you look at how enraged she is? Will she also fight on her first day?" Yolanda teased. "It's okay Petyr, I will take it from here."

Petyr stared from Diana to Yolanda. He knew what kind of woman Yolanda was and he didn't want to get on her bad side. But this new woman who was brought in by the governor himself, if he did anything to offend her as well, his entire life could be in jeopardy. He swallowed a little.

"Commander ma'am, the chief commander Jasyn has instructed me to ensure that I do not leave until the woman is comfortable," Petyr responded with a bow. "If you will excuse us, I will like for her to choose the room she will sleep in."

Yolanda's smirk vanished. She got very mad and her eyes flared. "Do you dare to defy me?!"

"Not at all, ma'am," Petyr said respectfully. "But this is commander Jasyn's orders. And last I checked, he was above you in position and authority. Also, he is my direct employer so it only makes sense for me to obey his order over yours."

Yolanda glared at Petyr. Diana had been calmed when she heard Petyr's response. She liked how he handled the situation. Perhaps Yolanda came to show her authority, Petyr had not only disregarded her, but he also did it with so much respect that even she couldn't address it as disregarding. Brilliant!

"Hm." Yolanda huffed. "Fine. I shall go and have a word with Jasyn."

Petyr bowed slightly. "Very well ma'am." Turning to Diana, he said, "Come with me, ma'am."

Yolanda gritted her teeth in anger as she watched Diana walk around the hallway, checking the different rooms and giving reviews about them. Even she was not given that kind of treatment when she was taken. She was brought and underwent severe training to prove that she was capable to be in the army even though it was against her choice. The only thing that made her remain there was that she managed to work her way up to becoming Jasyn's direct assistant. It was all she could ever dream of.

Yolanda marched back to Jasyn's office. He was about to leave when she arrived.

"Jasyn, I need to have a word with you." She declared firmly. Jasyn stared up at her, wondering in his heart what gave her the temerity to speak to him in such a manner. Yolanda quickly realized herself and pouted her lips. She grabbed his arm instantly.

"I'm sorry, you can't be mad at me..." She whined. "It's just that the new woman is too bold!"

"Yolanda, you need bravery and boldness and every other form of courage to be in the Fraco army," Jasyn said. "What then do you expect of her?"

"It's not about that!" Yolanda exclaimed. "She caused Petyr to defile my orders."

Jasyn stared at her in disbelief. Petyr would never disobey her unless what she had asked of him was something he knew that he, Jasyn, would never approve of.

"What did you order him to do?" Jasyn asked tiredly. He checked his watch for the time. The governor had summoned him and he had to be there as soon as possible.

"Are you going somewhere? Am I delaying you?" Yolanda asked softly. Jasyn exhaled softly.

"Eugene demanded I be at his office as soon as possible. I have to be on my way. But you can come along so we can finish this discussion along the way." Jasyn suggested. "If it's something I would need to discipline Petyr over, we can also discuss that."

"And have pie afterward?" She asked, still clinging onto his arm even tighter. "Please."

"Alright, Yolanda." Jasyn gave up. "You know for a soldier and a commander, and the assistant chief commander, you sure do act like a child. A baby even."

"Just with you, Jasyn." She said almost immediately. "I'm fiercer with the others."

"Of course," Jasyn said. He looked up to find Petyr coming back out with Diana walking slowly beside him. He stared at her. The way the wind blew her hair, scattering it across her face, and the way she would occasionally squint her eyes at the blinding sunlight. He didn't know when a small smile graced his hardened face. Yolanda's hawk eyes did not miss any of the details. She saw it and she was not happy about it.

"Sir, I've taken her to her dorm and she's satisfied with everything," Petyr said, bowing slightly to Jasyn. The man nodded his gaze still on Diana who was still a few steps back.

"Diana," Jasyn called. "How did you find the place? Can you cope? Even with your boy?"

"Yeah, I sure can-"

"If you want to answer to the chief commander, you have to be formal." Yolanda snapped. "Yes sir. Not yeah." Diana ignored her. "As I was saying Jasyn, I can cope. Are you going somewhere?"

"Yes!" Yolanda answered, clutching Jasyn's arms tightly. "We are going to see the governor."

"Oh, Eugene!" Diana exclaimed. "I want to see him as well. Is it okay if I come along?"

Yolanda was mad. She had just hoped this woman would at least stay away, how she never expected her to be so bold.

"Oh..." Jasyn trailed off. He had promised Yolanda already, how could he refute her? Yet he could also not refute Diana.

"I think you can tag along," Jasyn said.

"She cannot tag along, Jasyn!" Yolanda exclaimed. "I'm tagging along already and we have something to discuss, remember? And pie afterward!"

"Yolanda, there's always time for that. Also, Diana could join us to have pie. She could just tag along and you can continue your report as well." Jasyn explained.

"Jasyn-"

"Funny how you tell me to respect the chief community yet you don't respect him before everyone else," Diana said suddenly. "Yolanda, even if you both are having intimate affairs with each other, you should at least learn to respect him in public, thereby respecting yourself as well."

Jasyn was impressed. "See Yolanda? She's not only bold but wise. You should stick close to her. You could learn a thing or two."

Petyr was amused but he dared not laugh. Yolanda would smother him in his sleep and Jasyn would do nothing about it.

"Let's go," Jasyn said, turning to head to his car, parked a few feet away from him. Yolanda glared at him. She stood there, watching Diana walk carefully to the car. She glared at both of them. Diana got into the passenger seat like she did when Peter was bringing her. Jasyn got into the back seat and saved space for Yolanda.

"An, aren't you going to come in?" He asked carefully. He didn't want to give Diana the impression that he was a superior who didn't care about the feelings of his subordinates, at the same time he didn't want her to assume that he had feelings for Yolanda.

Diana did not care a single bit. All she wanted to do was get a little close to Eugene and understand why he was so much against werewolves.

From the spy's letter, she could decipher that there was a storm brewing against the werewolves and she only wanted to know why. Perhaps if she found out the reason, she would be able to convince him.

Yolanda stomped her foot and marched to the car like a child who had been scolded. At least she got to sit beside Jasyn and that was a win for her. If only she knew that Diana wouldn't choose Jasyn if he was the last and only man on earth.

Perhaps if she could hear Diana's thoughts, she would gag and puke.

"So Diana." Jasyn began, causing Yolanda's rage to spike. "Why exactly do you want to see Eugene? You know he is the governor, he's always busy."

"It's a private meeting, the matter is too delicate to be discussed with anyone else but Eugene," Diana answered. Yolanda smirked. Maybe Jasyn could finally see that Diana was bold but disrespectful.

"I understand," Jasyn said. "But you can trust me, at least if it's something I can help you with, it would save you the stress of going to see him yourself."

Diana shook her head. "Thanks for the offer. But you can see that I'm not stressed at all to be there. It's all pure rest even on the journey to see him."

"What if he doesn't agree to see you?" Yolanda asked. "He's a busy man after all and doesn't agree to see just anyone."

"That's cute," Diana said. After that, she kept quiet. She was going to brag and say Eugene could not reject seeing her, but with someone like Yolanda who seemed to just hate her for no cause, and is looking for a means to nail her and send her away, she wouldn't dare brag out.

Maybe if it was Jasyn or Petyr, she would proudly say Eugene couldn't refute her request to see him. If she was asked why, she would say it was because he needed her and he couldn't say no to doing whatever she wanted him to do.

If she said that to the hearing of Yolanda, it could spike another disgusting remark and it would cause her to show her true nature.

"That's a rude thing to say," Yolanda remarked.

"No matter who backs you, in the army, you have to respect the authorities of which I am part."

"Backing? You think I have backing?" Diana asked with a smirk. "Is that why you accused the noble governor of being the father to my child?"

Jasyn turned to stare at Yolanda whose entire face had turned red with anger and embarrassment. She never expected Diana to say such a thing out loud. Now she was going to be in huge trouble if Jasyn somehow mentioned it to Eugene. She could lose her position!

How could she get out of this situation?! She couldn't say Diana was lying, Petyr would defend her! Doom! She screamed in her head.
