Chapter 71

Diana woke up to strange noises and quickly hid her baby before investigating. Upon exiting her tent, she found nothing in the surrounding area. However, upon circling her tent, she spotted a shadowy figure who had been spying on her. Without hesitation, she chased after the intruder.

As she pursued the figure, Diana's heart raced with adrenaline. She was determined to catch the person who had invaded her privacy. Despite the darkness and the unfamiliar terrain, she remained focused on her goal.

She was determined to catch the spy without making any noise. She chased the spy for a long time but eventually realized that the person intended to take her away from the tent and possibly harm her child. Realizing the danger, she decided to retrace her steps back to the tent.

Her decision to backtrack was crucial in ensuring her safety and that of her child by arriving at the tent before any accomplice could carry out their plan, she was able to prevent any harm from being done.

Diana had just returned to her tent when she noticed it was open and her belongings were scattered. Her heart raced as she feared for her baby's safety. She slowly approached the spot where she had hidden her child and cautiously opened the cloth.

To her immense relief, her baby was still there, unharmed. Diana's heart swelled with gratitude and she hugged her child tightly. She couldn't imagine what would have happened if something had happened to him.

From that moment on, Diana made sure to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of her child. She never wanted to experience that kind of fear and panic again. She instantly knew that someone or a few people had begun to suspect her of coming with her child. She needed someone to be on the watch for her always.

She knew exactly what to do. But first, she would report the incident to Jasyn. Anything to rile him up more was good and this was a plausible reason for that to happen.

Diana was about to inform Commander Jasyn of an issue when she heard a commotion from the camp side. She rushed over to find fourteen soldiers dead, with marks indicating they were killed by werewolves. Diana was skeptical.

Calhoun, the werewolf king, had sent his warriors to attack human soldiers. She chuckled, anticipating the battle to turn out this way.

Diana began to investigate the incident. She found out that Calhoun had indeed ordered the attack, but his warriors had disobeyed him. They had acted on their own, seeking revenge for the death of one of their own. Diana reported her findings to Commander Jasyn, who was grateful for the information.

"Thank you for the enlightenment, Diana. You are a formidable soldier and I knew I didn't make any mistakes, choosing you as a commander."

Diana smiled humbly. "Please, all for one and one for all."

Jasyn smiled at her. "Good job. I heard you lost a few of your soldiers."

Diana turned sad. "I feel bad for them. But knowing that they died doing what they love, makes me a little better."

Jasyn nodded. "That's better. I hope the battle can be over quickly. These people have begun today's war and we must take revenge."

"Yes. Let's throw some more grenades into their castle. I heard they have human servants who are about to turn against their king." Diana said.

Jasyn was happy. He didn't know that all these were plans that Diana had decided to use to make him believe that she was on their side. He patted her on the shoulder.

"Eugene is around." He said. "He had wanted to meet you last night but Julitta said you were injured."

"Yes. It wasn't as serious as she must have painted it but I didn't have the energy to return to the camp."

"I could tell. He wanted to come and find you."

"I guess he did. You know, I was on my way to inform you about something that happened this morning." Diana said. "I think it's the Wisteria soldiers. One of them came to spy on me and while I chased him, another entered my tent and scattered it."

"I think they took my weapons." She said.

Jasyn got mad. "They dared to do that?!"

He began to call for his soldiers. He positioned them carefully at strategic points where they could fire bullets that could kill Calhoun's warriors.

Calhoun was ready for them too. He came out with his warriors and stood before them. Hal, Diana, and Theodore came out with their soldiers, ready to fight as well.

Calhoun's eyes were yet to find Diana's and he was smirking.

The Fraco soldiers cocked their guns, ready to fight. The Wisteria warriors held their swords, ready to fight. They were waiting for who would take the first step and start the battle.

A soldier who was positioned a little distant from the rest fired a bullet which he aimed at Calhoun. Julitta's eyes followed the bullet as fast as it went, expecting it to at least touch the man but what happened next shocked everyone.

Calhoun caught the bullet with his pointer and thumb, holding it until it cooled down. The soldiers were surprised. It was a silver bullet and they expected it to affect him.

"Silver bullet." Calhoun mocked. "Whoever informed you that it worked for every werewolf had sorely misinformed you."

"Now, you drew the first shot. Let's see who shall draw the first blood." He said.

"Warriors, attack." His voice was calm but the surge of adrenaline in every soldier was so high that his calm voice couldn't stop it. The war began. Calhoun was fast, he was everywhere.

His soldiers were slaying the humans and at a point, they got angry. Diana felt like it was unfair because they were wolves.

"Soldiers, rain down fire!" She yelled aloud. The soldiers began to shoot as fast as they could, every direction they saw the black outfit with a streak of purple, and they fired the bullets.

Calhoun was struck by the familiarity in the voice and he turned to see who had spoken. His world came to a halt when he saw Diana standing there, fighting his soldiers unarmed and still beating a few of them.

He turned totally. He was struck by how beautiful she looked. When he told Thomas that he had seen her, he was only bluffing. He was stuck staring at her because he didn't know he had become the target.

"Diana..." He called softly and the girl turned to him. She smirked at him and continued her fight. Calhoun started taking slow steps to meet her. She ignored him.

She beat two of his skilled swordsmen while being unarmed and Calhoun watched with pleasure as she fought. Diana was incognizant of his attention on her and she continued the battle.

Jasyn could see from his angle how Diana had completely ignored Calhoun and he smirked. Exactly what he wanted to be certain of. Now he could kill Calhoun and be unapologetic about it. He could see that she didn't care about him anymore.

Calhoun began to follow her. "Diana, wait."

Diana ignored him and when she saw that he followed her everywhere, she started avoiding him as well. Calhoun continued in his pursuit, not relenting.

Diana also continued in her escape, unrelenting.

"You won't even spare me a glance? Fine." He said. "If you won't speak to me, I might as well kill myself."

Diana turned sharply to see him walk directly in front of a soldier who was shooting and the bullets hit him severally. Jasyn knew that one bullet was never going to be enough to kill someone as strong as Calhoun.

He aimed at him and fired more bullets at him. Calhoun felt the pain as his body grew limp and he fell to the ground. Diana was frozen on the spot. Her heart began to hammer in her chest.

She walked slowly to meet his body on the ground. His blood had begun to seep out and it stained the snow red. She was covered by the fighting warriors and was unseen. She looked around for help and Julitta was beside her instantly.

"J... J..." She cried softly. "He can't die, can he?"

"Hey calm down, you can't start crying here. Come on, let's take him to your tent first." Julitta said.

She and Diana carried Calhoun in the best way they could. They took him to Diana's tent and dropped him there on the piece of cloth where Coco used to stay.

Julitta carried the boy up while Diana tended to Calhoun's injuries. Her tears didn't stop flowing just like her hand kept shaking. She was broken. Julitta saw that she couldn't concentrate on what she was doing.

Julitta came beside her and held her hand softly. "Hold him, let me do it."

Diana shook her head.

"Diana, you are not calm right now. You're a mess. Let me handle it." Julitta said. The soldier she had kept to keep watch over Coco suddenly came in.

"Commander Jasyn asks you, what do I tell him?"

"Tell him Calhoun was shot and Diana weeps," Julitta said.

The girl nodded. She didn't know the full story as to why Calhoun was in Diana's tent with holes around his body and blood seeping out.

"Alright. I'll come back as soon as I can." She said as she left.

Diana was crying. How could Calhoun kill himself just because she refused to talk to him? How could he be so foolish?

"You fool!" Diana cursed. "You asshole!"

Julitta chuckled. "Don't curse at him, his spirit could get upset and leave."

Diana cried the most. "Can you... Can you take the bullets out? Carefully."

"Sure. Just hold the boy." Julitta said. Diana took Coco from Julitta's hands while Julitta sat carefully beside Calhoun. She took the metal picker which Diana had used to take the bullets out.

"Why silver?" She asked.

"It will prevent the injury from closing while the bullets are there," Diana answered. "Please hurry up."

Julitta began to take the bullets out, one after the other while Diana stood by the side, whimpering. She cuddled Coco as if she was comforting him whereas she was the one in need of the comfort.

Julitta kept taking the bullets out slowly and with each mistake she made, Diana would sob a little louder.

Julitta noticed that each hole she took the bullet out from would close up. She turned to stare at Calhoun's face. And saw his eyes flicker. He seemed to be telling her something with his eyes.

She understood. She began to mouth things discreetly just so that Diana would not know.

Calhoun was happy that she understood what he had said and he relaxed all the more.

Once she was done with it, she turned to Diana.

"I think that's the last of them. You can stay and watch if he wakes up anytime soon."

"As for me, I have to return to the battlefield."

Diana nodded. "Thank you so very much, Julie. You are such a help."

Julitta smiled at her. As she left, she glanced at Calhoun again. Diana was saddened.

She walked over to where he lay on the ground and placed Coco beside him. She watched how the boy snuggled up beside him and she smiled.

"He's so stupid right?" Diana asked. "Not to worry, let's assume he wakes up. If he dies, I will kill him."

She got up and wiped her face and fresh anger enveloped her. She knew who killed Calhoun, it was Jasyn. She would destroy him and Eugene. The only way she would allow them to live was if Calhoun woke up.

And that was because she knew that Calhoun would want to kill him personally. The thought of having to see Eugene's blood spilled made her excited. She exited the tent with that excitement and rejoined the battle.

One thing she knew was that she wasn't on Fraco's side anymore. Call her a traitor but she was only going to fight for Calhoun.
