Chapter 72

Hal had fought and fought but he was getting tired. The warriors from Wisteria seemed to be never tiring. No matter how much they shot at them, they were never able to land one single hit. Even if they did, these warriors would simply take the bullet out and the wound would close up.

He noticed a soldier that seemed to slay whoever she passed by. He paused to see who it was. Slowly, he passed through the pairs of fighting soldiers just to try and meet the person. From the dress, he couldn't tell if she was a Fraco soldier or a Wisteria warrior.

She wore the Fraco combat pants but somehow managed to wear the leather sleeveless jacket that the Wisteria soldiers wore.

When he got to where she was, he grabbed her shoulder and she turned with a punch to his face. He crouched down to dodge and he caught a glimpse of her face.

"Diana!" He yelled. She didn't stop at first until he grabbed her hand and tackled her down to the ground. Since she was enraged, she didn't have the tactics.

"Calm down, jeez." He said. "You're fighting the wrong people."

She smirked wickedly. "Who says I'm fighting the wrong people?"

"Who's side are you on?" He asked, feeling a strange feeling stemming up from his guts to his heart.

"I'm on the side of peace." She answered. "I'm not a citizen of Fraco. I'm a Wisterian, one for Wisteria, Wisteria for all!"

Hal's eyes went wide with surprise. Diana was from Wisteria? Was Jasyn aware of this? If he was, why then did he allow her to come to battle? No, why did he allow her to become a commander? Wait, why did he even allow her to become a soldier in the first place? She wasn't supposed to join the army.

"Why are you doing this?" He asked softly.

Diana laughed. "Do we need to have any reasons to do anything?"

"Diana, we have done nothing but house you, care for you... We accepted you. How can you betray us in this manner?!"

"Fuck off," Diana replied. She turned back to face the enemy she had been fighting. Hal jumped in front of her and stopped her from hitting the soldier she was about to hit. Diana glared at him.

"Don't make yourself my enemy, Commander Hal." She warned.

Hal smirked. "You already made yourself my enemy when you decided to fight us."

Diana smiled. "Then so be it."

She raised her sword high and brought it down so quickly that before Hal could defend it, the sword had come down, he could only dodge the attack. Yet, it managed to cut through his clothes. He rolled a few more times and stopped to stare at his torn clothes.

Diana stared at him expressionlessly. She didn't want to fight against any commanders. But Hal had brought himself to her as if he was a worthy opponent.

"Have you forgotten? I beat you a few months ago, and you couldn't do anything about it."

Hal's smirking face turned angry in an instant. That was the greatest defeat for him and if not for Theodore, he would have dealt with Diana equally.

"That was beginner's luck."

Diana scoffed. "Let's see how long beginner's luck lasts."

Hal stood up and faced her. He tilted his head left and right. "Alright, let's see if blood is also a color of traitors."

They began their fight, their swords clanging against each other, causing the other soldiers to pause in their attacks. Everyone was drawn to the battle between Diana and Hal.

Jasyn noticed that the soldiers were being distracted and so were the enemies. Calhoun had been shot, did he somehow resurrect? So he wasn't going to take it.

He left the people surrounding him and managed to pave his way to the group of people that surrounded the fighters.

"Give way!" He yelled as he shoved some of his soldiers. He was surprised when he got to the center and found Diana and Hal in a battle against each other.

"Commander Hal, Commander Diana, what are you both doing?!" He demanded fiercely. Hal was just thrown off by Diana and he landed where Jasyn stood. He got up and turned to glare at Diana.

"What is going on here?" He demanded icily, glaring at Hal.

"She started it," Hal said.

Diana scoffed. "Don't accuse me, you were the one who tried to stop me and then challenged me to a fight."

Jasyn stared at Hal. "Why did you challenge her to a fight?"

"We are in the enemies' land, do you wish to embarrass me here?"

"If you both have unsettled matters, can't you wait until we return to settle it?"

"And risk all our soldiers dying by her sword?" Hal returned. "Diana is not on our side, commander."

Jasyn scoffed. "How can she not be on our side?" He turned to Diana, and seeing her nonchalant expression, he began to doubt in his heart.

"Are you?"

"Am I what?" Diana asked.

"Are you on our side?" Jasyn asked.

Diana raised her sword high, lifting her voice she shouted. "All for Wisteria!!"

"Wisteria for all!" The warriors yelled back.

Diana brought her sword down and smirked at Jasyn. "The mistake you made was to shoot at him. Pray he wakes, otherwise, I will take your life myself."

"Let's fight!" She yelled out and the Wisteria warriors began to fight again. Jaysn stood there, shocked. He couldn't move his body no matter how hard he tried.

There were bullets spreading everywhere and suddenly, the Wisteria warriors began to reduce by a whole lot. Diana was surprised as she assumed they were immune to the silver bullets the soldiers had used earlier.

"Drop your swords, use your guns!" Hal yelled. The soldiers began to throw their swords away and began firing at their opponents.

Many soldiers dared to fire bullets at Diana but she was quick enough to evade them. She dodged all the bullets and even cut some with her sword.

"Sire, ex-commander Diana is too fast for our bullets to hit her."

"Ignore her, fight the others. Take them down, if she's alone against so many of us, she will have no choice but to surrender."

The battle lasted long again, till the night began to fall. The Wisteria warriors began to hide, attacking their opponents surprisingly.

"Commander, they are using their wolf forms!" A soldier reported. Before Jasyn could give another order, he heard the soldier yell and he fell to the ground with a thud, dead.

"Soldiers, retreat." He ordered. Those who were closer to the camp returned as fast as they could. Those who were surrounded were killed and only a handful were able to escape.

Diana watched them amusingly. She knew that if the battle was over, the Wisteria warriors would come for her so she quickly returned to her tent. Calhoun was sitting by the corner, his eyes were on her from the moment she got in.

"Goodness!" Diana exclaimed, holding her chest. She had been startled, seeing Calhoun sitting so straight. She had expected that if he was awake, he would come after her in battle. Or at least to fight the person who had shot him.

"When did you wake up?" She asked.

Calhoun stared at her, silent. He still couldn't believe that she was the one standing before him, showing care.

"Did the sound of the gunshot block your ears?" She asked, still standing in the same spot. Her eyes moved to the little figure on the ground, beside him. She quickly walked over and carried him from the ground.

The boy was wide awake and had been in a staring contest with Calhoun.

"Hi, baby..." She cooed. Coco smiled a little. "Did you miss momma?"

She rubbed her nose against his and he giggled softly. She smiled back.

"You have a child," Calhoun stated. When Diana left, he opened his eyes and saw the child lying beside him. The boy was snuggled up beside him and he felt a sort of bond and attachment to the child. He didn't know why.

He knew how heated the battle was but he didn't want to go outside. If everyone assumed he was dead, it would be wonderful. He could spend some time with Diana when she wasn't on the battlefield.

But when he saw the boy, he could see the resemblance with Diana on the boy's face and he knew immediately that he was her child. But who was the father? Who was the father of the boy?

It was nighttime when she finally returned. He was too stunned to see her, and also be in the same room with her, alone. And she showed so much care and affection while being with him. He didn't just know what to say.

He also couldn't believe that the first question that had come out of his mouth was, "You have a child."

Diana glared at him. "I come in, you are silent. I ask you how you are, you remain silent. I ask you when you woke, and you remained silent. And the first thing you could say, was that I have a child? Have you lost your mind, Calhoun?"

"You're missing the point, Diana. You have a child!" He said again. His world was crashing down. Had she forgotten about him so easily that she got married or found another love and forgot about him?

"You're missing the point, Calhoun." She refuted. "The first words you speak to me, after not seeing me for two years, is that the first and only thing that could come into your mind?"

Calhoun turned his face away. "I'm sorry. That's not what I wanted to say."

Diana was shocked. Did he just apologize? And even sounded so sincere?

"Are you surprised I apologized?" He asked. "You changed me, Diana."

Diana scoffed. "That's like telling me that the red sea is red in color."

"You can never be sure, you have not seen it yourself," Calhoun said. "But I'm serious, Diana."

"I'm serious Calhoun." Diana refuted.

Calhoun got up from the ground where he sat. His shirt and trousers were torn as they had holes everywhere. He looked around for his jacket.

"I can't find my jacket anywhere." He said.

Suddenly, Julitta bolted into the tent and zipped it very quickly.

"Shh." She exclaimed immediately after she entered. They kept mute until they heard the footsteps that seemed to belong to someone who was running, probably chasing Julitta, run past and fade away.

"I came to return this. You left it on the battlefield." Julitta said, handing the jacket to Diana. Calhoun smiled.

"Wipe that smirk off your face before I wipe it." She threatened.

"Oh, you've made up?" Julitta asked, clapping her hands in Glee. "I told you my commander would whoop your ass."

Calhoun turned to stare at her. Was Diana the commander? If she was, he would happily have his ass whooped every day.

Diana rolled her eyes. "J, this man woke up and the first question he could ask me was about having a child."

"I didn't ask, I simply stated a fact," Calhoun said. "Moreover I didn't say if it was a boy or not."

"You were so right about him, Diana. He's everything you said he was. How come you know him so well?" Julitta asked softly. She refused to have eye contact with Calhoun.

"Don't say it as if he's that important," Diana whispered.

Calhoun watched the two ladies whisper about him as if he wasn't standing there or couldn't hear them.

"You do know I can hear you right?" Calhoun asked, chuckling lightly.

Diana glared at him and he raised his hands in surrender. He turned around and went to sit elsewhere.

They resumed their conversation and he listened but was quiet for the sake of allowing them to speak more.

His ears perked up as he heard the sound of someone coming. He could sniff the person.

"Shh." He whispered. Diana and Julitta kept quiet, staring at him as if he had gone nuts.

"Someone's coming."

They exchanged glances. The person came toward the tent and stopped shut.

"Diana." The person whispered. "If you're in there, I want you to come out."

Diana stared at Calhoun, he shook his head saying no. Julitta shrugged. She opened the tent to go but Calhoun grabbed her hand to stop her.

"Allow me!" She whispered.

"It's too dangerous out there." Calhoun refuted.

"I have to make sure-"

Calhoun kissed her instantly. Diana's eyes went wide when she realized what it was that had shut her mouth and prevented her from speaking.
