As soon as we announced that we were going to do a simple ceremony in civilian life, everyone was shocked, to say the least, I would say. But as soon as it was understood that Marta's state of health would be something that would take a considerable time for us to be able to affirm that she was fully recovered, they ended up accepting our arguments and, as we had already made it quite clear that we did not want to wait any longer for the marriage, the whole family, both João Pedro and mine, they supported us and were quite happy with our union.
But the revelation about the pregnancy happened earlier than we expected and a few days later, my mother called me to talk because she was suspicious of the change in both my behavior and my body and I could no longer postpone the moment. I was already three months pregnant and had even started prenatal care discreetly, but I could no longer hide it for much longer, although the belly itself was not large, I had gained a few extra pounds.
Despite the discomfort at first, when everyone found out after my mother put me up against the wall, João Pedro gathered everyone together for a dinner party and threw the bomb. Even Marta was present, as she was slowly returning to her routine. My parents didn't want to accept dinner with the bosses, but we went to a restaurant a little simpler than they used to go to and they ended up agreeing, after a lot of insistence from JP.
" So, now we can understand the reason for such a rush to the wedding " were the words of Mr. Rodolfo when João Pedro exposed the pregnancy.
"In this case, I believe we should expedite this civil marriage," my father spoke bluntly.
" This is what we have insisted on from the beginning " João Pedro spoke with the greatest cynical face, unbothered by the tense atmosphere at the table.
" But we could make a beautiful ceremony, simple and discreet, even with all the haste of the bride and groom" my mother spoke, trying to ease the situation.
João Pedro held my hand and I could understand the gesture of comfort as he squeezed it tightly. The worst part would be that moment, then everything would go more smoothly.
Something that proved to be when Mrs. Marta got excited, for the first time after the surgery, and began her plans for our wedding, already making a list of guests, which according to her, would only be the closest.
That came to fruition, and our wedding was just a simple ceremony at the registry office, followed by a dinner at the Mendes de Albuquerque mansion, but for me, it was something beautiful, because it was simple, bought with a lot of money and very good taste.
Only the closest friends of the family, and some older employees, with whom João Pedro had been in close contact since he took his place in the company and which he was already keen to say he liked.
João Felipe was not invited, and I did not understand how this happened. João Pedro had no contact with his brother since he returned to the United States parents because they chose to hide his mother's illness from their firstborn, it was something that she did not allow anyone, not even her husband, to tell their son, they were keeping more distant from Felipe.
Felipe had not noticed anything strange and was moving on with his life normally, closing his big deals and increasing the company's profits.
After the wedding, I started living in the mansion and sharing the room with João Pedro, something that was not difficult, since we always spent a lot of time together inside that same room, watching series, doing schoolwork together or just choosing clothes or helping JP get ready for some event.
Soon we got into a comfortable routine that was almost the same as before the wedding since the change was due only to the fact that now I no longer went to my parent's house and stayed only in the mansion.
I was finishing the course and my belly was getting bigger every day. There were many changes and I felt that I was maturing a lot. Marta was being a completely different person, in a positive way. She was much more affable and caring, both with me and my mother, making a point of including her, whenever possible, in our programs. The friends who had moved away from her during the worst phase of the illness had tried to get closer when they saw her resume some of her old schedules, but she didn't encourage them, just being kind and keeping her distance. The only exception was the mother of the brothers Nicolas and Henrique, Veronica, with whom she always had great friends and who, being out of the country during that most difficult period, could not support her closely, however, as soon as she knew what was going on when she returned to the country, she was soon visiting Marta frequently and accompanying her to some lunches.
Veronica was a very kind person and always treated me very well, as well as her husband Gustavo. They always invited me when there were events in their residence, unlike most of the parents of João Pedro's friends, who treated me with discrimination, even studying together with their children in the same school.
And when I was already reaching the end of pregnancy, everything was quiet in our life now, with Marta fully recovered and back to her activities, João Pedro dedicated to the company, once classes had ended, and me taking care of my pregnancy.
We were all having dinner gathered in the mansion and João Pedro did not miss the opportunity to make jokes about this subject, because he knew that his mother complained, but she had a lot of fun.
Mr. Rodolfo had been urging my parents to retire, since they already had this right and they were organizing for it, thinking of going to live in their hometown, Jundiaí, which was a few kilometers from the capital. Close enough that they could always visit me, just like me.
It was a subject that had been discussed for some time, and only now have they come to consider it. Made me happy. I was happy and everything was fine.
