*Abi POV*
It’s been a week since Omario left with Olivia, yet I am still raging inside. None of this would have happened had he listened to me the first time.
Another bout of nausea hits me, sending me flying to the toilet. I hardly sleep these days. If I am not cursing my mate, I am throwing up everything. I am just glad that seems to be early morning and evenings when I am alone. The last thing I need is everyone fussing over me.
As is, Mother Luna Nala is fussing enough. She is even insisting on cooking all my food. I appreciate all her support and the love she is showering me with.
Unlike Terrence, who openly tells me that I am overreacting, she has never even once blamed me for anything.
“You know what this means, right?” Nina links.
I ignore her, gag and throw up some more.
“Abi,” Nina calls me, impatiently.
“Yes, Nina, I know,” I snap. “He gets to walk and be with his childhood love while I…”
“He would be here if we didn’t threaten to kill Olivia and her pup,” my stupid wolf interjects. All of a sudden, she has gone all soft on Omario and making all excuses for him.
“Just shut up, Nina!”
“Hormones toying with you, aren’t they?”
I ignore my irritating wolf and get ready for the day.
“Good morning, Your Highness. How are you feeling today?” another person who fuss over me greets.
“Morning Teresa. I am fine, how are you and that cute bun?”
She giggles. She’s been so happy since she found her mate. Duncan is a real sweetheart and dots over Teresa. Now that she is expecting, she is glowing.
“We are fine, thanks. Enough about me, how..”
“No fussing Teresa,” I cut her short and she laughs.
We are joined by Mother Luna Nala, who holds both my shoulders and inspects me. I have gotten used to her doing this.
“Mmmh,” she sighs and I narrow my eyes at her.
“You look a bit dry and pale. Are you okay?” she asks worriedly.
“Did she say dry and pale? Is that bad for you know who? You have to tell them,” Nina starts panicking.
“Shut up, Nina. She is fussing over nothing as usual.”
“Good morning to you too. I am fine, thank you. You promised to stop fussing,” I remind her.
“I have a meeting with the council this morning. They will provide breakfast,” I add and they both strongly object.
“Absolutely not!”
“No, no ways!”
I look suspiciously at them. “I demand to know what this is all about right now.”
They exchange looks and I get my confirmation that something is going on that they are hiding from me.
“You better start talking because I will eat that food,” I threaten. They think I have not noticed how they are the only ones handling my food since Omario left. The royal chefs don’t even come to ask me what I want them to prepare like they did previously.
They pull me to the new study, the one place that is completely secured in the castle.
“Fine, some people might be gunning for the throne. Nina can not be taken out in a fight, but…”
“I can be poisoned,” I complete Teresa’s sentence.
“Olivia being pregnant raises a lot of challenges and threats,” Mother Luna adds.
“She and Omario get to rule if I am dead,” I say, my heart sinking.
Mother Luna shakes her head. “Think about it carefully.”
“Rio will never side with the people who are trying to kill us. What’s wrong with you?” Nina asks, irritated with me.
“He left with her, didn’t he?” I snap at her.
“He left with her to make sure that she does not pose a risk. That whore can even get herself abducted just to get back at us and prove to the stupid elders that she should be protected. That she should stay here,” Nina says. I had not thought of this before.
“You don’t know for sure that is the reason he left. He could still live her for all we know,” I suggest but Nina is not impressed with me.
“And they say I am the irrational one. He clearly said this when he left. He even refused to reject us, remember that?”
I turn to look at the two women in front of me. “I don’t want to guess. Just tell me what is going on.”
“Olivia has a lot of support. That pup she is carrying is viewed as the future despite what Rio said. Because of this, all the elders, except Telly, seem to be on her side,” Mother Luna explains.
“And Omario?”
“She either wins his affection or he meets the same fate as what is planned for you,” Teresa adds.
“With me and Omario gone, Olivia’s pup becomes the only person closest to the throne. She rules for her pup until it’s old enough.”
“Sneaky bitch!” Nina curses.
They both nod their heads as I sink on the couch. A lot of things are starting to make sense now.
The elders initially suggested that the pup might end up being the heir to the throne, but that changed when Omario stepped down as the Alpha. If I am dead, he automatically becomes the only heir, putting Olivia’s pup back in the succession line.
“Does Omario know about this?”
They nod again. “Someone has to keep a close eye on Olivia,” Teresa responds.
“Because you don’t know everyone involved,” I say, reading through them.
They nod again.
“Except, you should have just told me about all of this. Then I would have told you that Olivia’s pup will never be an heir.”
Their eyes widened and immediately drop to my waist.
Before I know it, all my meetings are canceled, I am laying on a bed with a group of doctors around me ready to do the scan and Omario is tightly holding my hand.
Him and Titan had a really long debate on who should be physically here. Omario won, but I honestly would have preferred to be holding Titan’s paw.
“We missed you Rio. Abi is driving me crazy, it must be the hormones. Please come back home,” my treacherous wolf says and Omario is so pleased, he can’t hide the huge grin on his face.
“I missed and love you both very much,” he says charmingly while trying to make eye contact with me.
Wolves are really simple creatures. Nina is completely fine with Omario as soon as she knows his motives for leaving with Olivia, but I am not. Things are not as simple. Maybe I am being impossible but I need to know if Olivia would have succeeded in winning him back had I not turned out pregnant.
