Chapter 31

The next day came, and she walked into our room like nothing had happened. She knows for sure that Marcus is dead, as everyone's been talking about it since yesterday, and the girl who saw his body is still in the hospital, needing some counseling. She sat in the last row along with me, but we are both sitting at the opposite end of the corner in the back.

She seemed calm, and as her new-found friend told her what was happening, she reacted a bit like she was shocked upon hearing the news. I just scoffed and looked to the front. So this is how she behaves, huh?

Typical murderer like her mother.

She's been observing everyone in our class. No one's noticing it, as most of our classmates are busy with their own businesses. She just watched them, and she will just smirk some time when she hears some kind of joke that sounds funny to her. That's what she did almost every single day, but then I also noticed that every fifteenth day of the month, she would be gone and would always leave an excuse letter saying she wasn't well. She's going somewhere else, like their kind do when they're about to hunt for their prey.

Well, that's how she tricked everybody in our class.

While one of her guards is busy passing her excuse letters, I, on the other hand, tried everything to follow them, but it just became so hard as I also realized that their guards are men who are trained for extreme kinds of things.

One time, after the day that she was gone, she came the very next day, and she looked so pale that she could even pass out at any moment. In that state, anyone could tell that she's a vampire. I bet people around her are just afraid to talk about it in front of her. Unless it's Rylie, her human best friend, who I hear most of the time teasing her in a whispering manner.

Her brother, Luke Abel Lazarius, was different from her. While she's anti-social and aloof with others, her brother seems to be a social butterfly. I've also been observing him, and there's nothing curious about him, as he just went to school in the daytime and eventually stayed in his apartment a few blocks away from the campus the whole night.

But her…

She's everywhere.

Since I can't use my hunting skills to follow her, I just blend in with the people around her. She may be a snob, but I can see her at almost every party that I'm invited to. She's just enjoying herself on her own, and she was probably pushed out by her best friend to come.

Another party ended tonight; I'll probably go home, as I heard them talking about her going home too. Rylie tried to persuade her to stay longer, but she refused all of that and went out already. Minutes later, I also got out of the party when people started to walk out too. I parked my car a little bit far away, so I started to walk along with our schoolmates in the middle of the night on a dark street. Well, everyone seems to be talking so loud, which is why I don't feel alone.

I was about to turn right to take a shortcut in an alley nearby when someone blocked my way.

It's her, with her typical posture. Her arms were crossed against her chest.

I remained silent and just looked at her. Her contact lenses this time are light brown, and it really suits her, I guess.

"Don't you have any friends?" She suddenly asked.

I tilted my head as I put one of my hands inside the pocket of my pants. I'll just stir the whole aura into a light one, and so I let out a soft chuckle.

"Why do you ask? Do you want to be my friend?" I asked back.

She took a few steps forward, and so did I.

"Do you even know who I am?" She asked in a stern voice.

As she steps closer to me, I can now clearly see how beautiful her lips are. Her jawline looks so delicate on her face, like it's been molded just for her. As for the eyes, it's breathtaking. She does have the kind of eyes that will lure you to be one of her slaves. She's majestic to look at. She's a masterpiece.

Wait, why am I seeing her this way?

She's an enemy.

I shook my head slowly and smirked in front of her. She's a bit small, and her height is only under my chin. She may be taller than the usual height of girls around the campus, but she still looks so small in front of me.

"How dare you smirk at me like that?" she scoffed.

"I'm sorry, but I don't know you at all, so you're just wasting your time," I said and tried to walk past her, but I think I only pissed her off.

"Then why are you always following me?" She asked straightforwardly.

I knew it; she's different from everyone, and no matter how hard I try to blend in with the people around her, she would have caught me either way. She's smart, and she can easily catch her enemy. I bet she's also much stronger among her kind.

"You stopped walking because we both know that you've been eyeing me since my first day back in the auditorium," she said, like she had already concluded and figured it all out.

I turned around to look her directly in the eye. She didn't even flinch or move in her defense; she just stood there.

"You've guessed it right," I said in defeat.

She raised an eyebrow.

"I don't know how to tell this to you in a good way, but I'm not open to any kind of relationship right now if that's what you want from me," she said abruptly, and so I chuckled.

She thought I was following her because I liked her. That's funny to think about, though. I may find her majestic in my eyes, but I will never like someone from the family who ruined mine.

"I'm just saying," she added shortly.

"I'm not interested in you in particular," I said when I finally stopped laughing at the thought of what she just said.

"I've heard that --"

I interrupted her and spoke again.

"I'm very much interested in your kind anyway," I said in the most casual way.

She paused for a minute and processed what I said. I saw how her lips parted, and so I smirked again.

"You're obviously a vampire, aren't you?"
