After our encounter in that dark alley, she became aggressive toward me. Whenever I do something, even if it's good or bad inside our classroom, she'll always find a mean word to say to me. If I recite or I'm in a head-to-head debate with her, she'll take it seriously and get annoyed easily. She'll even wait for me outside sometimes just to tell me that I'm so stupid, but she'll eventually take it back by the time she realizes I'm the only person besides her best friend who knows about her true identity.
It's already Saturday now, and I need to go home to visit my dad. He's been all alone in our mansion for the whole weekend since both of my siblings went abroad to attend some party out there.
I parked and was about to get out of my car when Shaina came out of nowhere. She's been my best friend since we were kids, and her family is the closest family friend we have. They are living in the village, kilometers away from the back of our mansion, so I thought she wouldn't think that I'd be going home, but she did.
"How's the city?" She asked excitedly.
"It's still a city with lots of buildings and cars," I said, like I was talking to a child.
The truth is, Shaina only had a few chances to go where I'm staying. She's devoted to the whole group and village we have here. The reason why was that when I encouraged her to continue studying in the city, she immediately refused my offer. She'll only have an opportunity to go when I have business to do that will benefit the village. She's the representative, if you put it like that.
"I'm thinking about getting an apartment near your school," she suddenly said, which surprised me.
What is she going to do in that wide place?
"You're going to study now?" I asked curiously while we walked towards the entrance of our house.
"Well, I'm hoping you have an available slot for me in your growing company," she said shyly, and so I looked at her. I tapped her shoulders and hugged her for a bit.
"I'll find one for you; don't worry," I assured her.
I entered the house, and I saw my dad already waiting for me in the living room. I already saw him from outside a while ago. He seemed dissatisfied, and his facial expression says it all.
Shaina excused herself as she went straight to the kitchen to do something while I walked quietly into the living room.
My father was patiently waiting for me as I sat down on the single couch beside him.
"You should not do this all the time," he said, like an order.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Right now is a very critical moment, and if you keep going home here every weekend, we might not know who could follow you here," he said in a stern voice.
I've never thought of that, honestly. But I just know for sure that no one will ever be suspicious of me, as I tried to disguise myself as the most studious man they could ever meet. No one will think that I'm this kind of creature, as I like that, I guess.
"Apart from that, I can't see any progress from what you're supposed to do," he added. I know he will bring this up every single time I meet with him.
We created a plan. A plan to destroy the family of the murderer who killed my mom. Apparently, her daughter is Adriana, the vampire I've been spying on. Everything's going well according to my plan, but sometimes I just can't help but suddenly stop thinking about what we are supposed to do to her. I'm about to push myself into marrying her, but every time I see her in the library, reading and studying on her own, I can't help but suddenly admire her beauty from time to time.
I know for a fact that she killed numerous men from our batch, but I can't seem to find a reason to loathe her.
She needed it to satisfy her thirst, and most of the time she couldn't help it. But apart from that, I recently noticed that she's been behaving like a sweet sheep, and I figured out that Luke has been injecting her with something to make her less dangerous for the people around her. I saw how she struggled at first because of it.
I felt a sudden pity for her.
"Why are you so silent?" Dad asked to get my attention.
"Nothing. I've been working to send their family a call, but the line is always busy," I explained, and dad just scoffed.
"Is that the best thing you could do about it?" He asked sarcastically.
"I know this is not what you expect --"
I'm still not done saying something, but he's already interrupted me.
"Of course, this is not what I expect from you. I know you're good at this task; that's why I let you do this with me, but you're pulling me backwards, and I don't think I can settle for this," he said, like he's pissed off about what I'm doing lately.
He's right anyway; he's been waiting for me for weeks to contact her parents, and every time I do that, all I was hoping was that they wouldn't answer my call.
I thought I was the toughest soldier that my family could use against this revenge, but it's starting to go down.
Apart from this plan, I've also started to investigate on my own. I want to know both sides of the story.
"Call them again, right in front of me," he said again, like an order for me.
My mind is already hesitating about it. I don't know if I'm still sure about this plan, but my family has been waiting for me to get revenge. I eventually stood up to walk towards the telephone line, just right behind my father's seat. I dialed the number of their line, and as the line started to ring, I hoped that no one would answer, just like it always used to be.
But to my horror, the voice of a woman suddenly spoke.
"Hello?"
I can clearly recognize her voice.
It's her.
Adi.
"I'm looking for Mrs. Lazarius; it is about the sudden changes in the project for the city's stadium," I said as I tried to make my voice sound so manly. By following them almost every day, I already know what they've been doing and exactly what words I need to use against them.
"Hold on," she said calmly.
I looked in the direction of my father, and he was already standing, waiting for what was going to happen next.
Minutes passed, and the voice of a woman answered again.
"How can I help you?" She asked right away. She sounded so sophisticated, and by the way she spoke, she gave off an energy that made it seem like she was obviously from the upper class.
"I was wondering, ma'am," I said shortly.
"What are you even wondering?" She asked again.
"I was just wondering how you can even manage to hide your daughter's identity from the public?"
As soon as I asked, the other line remained silent, and moments later she spoke.
"Where can I meet you?" She asked.
"I'll send you the details," I said as I ended the call.
I looked at my father, and I could see how satisfied he was.
"I'll be going now," I told him, but before I could even walk out of the living room, he spoke.
"Don't even try to ruin this plan again," he said like a warning, and I just walked out of the house as he finished his sentence.
I let out a deep sigh as I got out of our house. I took my phone out of my pocket and called her mother at the number that I got from the staff in the stadium before.
I was about to get inside my car when Shaina appeared again in front of me.
"You're still pushing the plan to marry her?" She asked.
I just nodded and opened the door for the driver's seat.
"Can you just make another plan and not put yourself at risk?" She asked again, like she was pleading.
"Do you have a plan in mind?" I asked, but as she remained silent, that was the signal for me to go to the city again and meet her mother tonight.
I drove really fast to reach the place I told them we could meet. It's just an abandoned warehouse near the fishing port. I got there on time, and while I was waiting for them, I couldn't help but think about her.
I'm wondering what she'll do about this matter.
An hour passed, and I heard a car outside. The door of the warehouse opened, and I saw her mother walking slowly like a model on a runway. So this is the woman who killed my mother?
I smirked at her when I saw how her eyes looked so cold. She's got no expression at all.
"What do you want?" She even asked coldly.
"Well, I'm just a very easy man."
She interrupted me and asked again.
"What do you really want?"
I paused and lowered my head for a minute. She's about to ask again, but this time, I interrupted her.
"I want your daughter," I said as I looked at her directly. "I want your daughter to marry me."
She tried to hide the fact that she was shocked, but she remained calm.
"Is that what you only want?" She asked again.
I nodded silently, and she eventually extended her hand in front of me. I looked at her hand, and she spoke.
"Then it's a deal."
