Chapter 41

I'm trying to figure out how they ended up here. As they came closer to us, I heard Shaina growl like a big ass wolf. I'm trying to concentrate on these men around us, but I'm now a bit bothered by what she did. I couldn't help but think about something, but it doesn't matter to me anymore. The only problem I need to fix is this bunch of assholes.

One man almost touched Meghan, but I quickly caught his hand and pulled him hard before I threw him away from us. I was almost caught off guard when they started to attack us continuously.

Shaina got two men with him, while Meghan tried to push away the man who was trying to get him. In front of me were three other men who attacked me at the same time. They are moving so fast, but not fast enough to get me.

I eventually caught the leg of a man from them, and I smashed him on the kitchen counter. I can clearly see how those little knives got through his neck. The other one grabbed my shoulders, but I reached for his hand and pulled him to the ground. The last one was not even trying to go near me when they saw that all of his friends went down. Instead, I heard him laugh, and I froze.

It's not a man after all; it's a woman.

She took off the mask covering her face, and I could easily tell that she's like me.

A vampire.

"Well, this is a surprise," she said sarcastically as she looked at us. Shaina finally finishes knocking off the other two men, just as Meghan did to the other one.

"Look at you, teaming up with werewolves," she said in a teasing manner.

Upon hearing Shaina's growl earlier, I could tell that they were werewolves, just like this woman said. Earlier, I still rejected the idea of it since I can't smell them right away, but maybe they're using something to make them less suspicious, I guess.

"Stop doing this; we don't even know who you are," I said when Meghan held my hand again.

"I pity you, you know what? Because you can't seem to realize that something's going on with your crazy family," she said, even chuckling.

I don't know who this is, but I'm getting so annoyed by how she pushed me to my limits. I'd be ready to fight her anytime if only Ysmael's younger sister weren't here.

She was about to walk toward me when one of her men stood up and signaled something. I don't know what that is, but she just cussed about it and looked at me for the last time.

"We'll see again, and by then I'll kill you with my bare hands," she said, like it's supposed to be a threat, but I can't feel anything about it.

"Bring it on," I said before she finally left the house.

I immediately looked at Meghan, scanning her body for any scratches they had given her. I was busy checking up on her when I heard footsteps coming. Moments later, I can hear Ysmael shouting our names. We got out of the kitchen to see them, and just then, Meghan ran to his father, while Shaina also went to him to report what happened. I, on the other hand, slowly walk towards Ysmael. I felt relieved upon seeing him looking so okay.

When I was just a few inches away from him, he grabbed me by the hand and hugged me so tight. I can also feel how he planted soft kisses on my shoulders.

"I'm glad you're safe," he said, whispering in my ear.

"You better check up on them," I said to him. "Meghan was pretty much afraid earlier."

"I'll also double the protection through the whole night later," he assured me.

"You're a werewolf, right?" I suddenly asked. I know her father heard what I asked, and they did excuse themselves to let me talk freely towards his son.

When we were all alone in the living room, I asked the same question again, and this time he nodded at me. Gosh, I should have known something like this would come up.

"I'm married to a werewolf, is that right?" I asked him again, and he just nodded as an answer to my question.

I took a deep breath and held his hand. I honestly don't know what to say. I've been married to a creature who's literally our mortal enemy since centuries ago, and now look what's happening to me. Someone's trying to kill me, and I don't even know why they are trying to kill me anyway.

"We need to talk," I said as I pulled him into our room. He just let me do what I wanted, and as I locked the door, I let go of his hand.

He's not trying to talk to me at all. It looks like he's thinking about something I don't want to know about. I have so many questions, but I don't even know where to start.

Just then, flashes of memory came to mind. My head suddenly gets so painful that I even fall to the floor. I'm holding both sides of my head, and I tried to scratch it. I don't know what's happening, but in my mind, I keep seeing myself on the beach.

I'm walking on a pathway or pavement that will take me to a small house. I don't know what's going on. I can feel Ysmael's hands trying to caress my shoulders and back. He's trying to carry me to the bed, but I refuse.

Another memory came in.

I can see myself trying to help someone. It's obviously a man, but his face looked a bit blurry to me. I'm helping him to stand up like Ysmael is trying to do right now, but he refused and told me to stay there much longer. As I tried to remember what he said, I noticed his voice inside my head, and I also looked at him. They have the same voice.

Maybe this is him!

Maybe this is a memory of what happened between us.

A memory shifted to a different one. This time, it is pretty much dark, but I can clearly see Luke beside me. He's trying to hold me by my hand, and I keep hearing myself screaming. I don't know when this happened, but I keep pleading with all of the people around me to stop. Most of them were not familiar to me, and only my brother, who's looking at me coldly, is the only one I know. As I can see the people around us trying to separate the two of us, little by little I notice that someone's standing behind Luke. Their faces are a bit blurry at first, but when they become very clear, I am shocked just by realizing who they are.

It's mom and dad, looking at me intently.

I looked at Ysmael, and I almost pleaded as I spoke.

"Just let me sleep," I said weakly.

He then carried me up into the bed and hugged me so tight. His arms were covering almost my whole body while he pulled me to lie on the bed. He planted soft kisses on my forehead and hummed a song while I was still holding on to both sides of my head. Gradually, I can almost feel my body calming on its own. I don't know how it happened, but earlier I felt like my soul was separated from my body while it was trying to show me something inside my head. It's like it's making its own move to make me remember what happened before.

While I was still thinking about it, I realized how close my body was to his. At first, I didn't notice or mind it at all, but it's getting warm around me, and it's not really usual for me to feel that way. I pushed him softly to have some space between us, but he just hugged me even tighter.

I can hear him breathing just near my neck, and it has already sent shivers down my spine. It seems like he's trying to figure out if I'm already calm, and when he did separate our bodies for a bit, he spoke.

"We need to move to a much safer place now," he said in a serious way.

"Where would that be?" I asked almost like a whisper, as I'm still trying to regain some energy again.

He looked at me first straight in the eye, and I was taken back when he slightly smiled at me.

"We're going to a place where we were very happy to visit before."
