Chapter 45

Luke couldn't say anything about what happened. I know for a fact that he knows something, but he can't just tell me what's going on. It's best for me not to know anything for now. What am I, a toddler? I can handle myself anyway, so why did they even have to hide it from me up until now?

When I got back to the house, Ysmael was already cooking something for a late breakfast, and as much as I want to open the topic to him, I can't bring myself to ask for it now as I noticed how bright his mood is right now. He seemed cheerful, and I can even hear him humming a song while I'm in the living room, busy reading some magazines. Apart from that, he looks dashing, as I noticed his hair, which looks like he just got up from bed, when in reality, I didn't even feel him entering the bedroom last night when it was supposed to be our room in the first place. Nevertheless, he looks dashing in his natural way. I don't know if it's about him being a werewolf or such, but he's screaming majestic just by looking at him.

"You seemed fine today," I started a conversation as I moved closer and sat down on the end of the couch just near the kitchen counter.

"Well, I'm back here," he said excitedly as he smirked at me. What does he mean by that?

"Do we have good memories here?" I asked curiously. Well, this is better than asking him something serious about my thoughts.

He paused for a second and looked at me at first, then eventually gave me a gentle smile. He continued to cut the ingredients and put them in the pan. He's still smiling, and that's making me so curious.

"We were happy for some time," he started to say.

My lips pursed as I listened to him. The way he said those words gradually made me feel like they really meant something and that we really meant something for some time.

"Go on," I said.

"Well, everything isn't easy when you're dealing with someone like you. Everything felt different and on another level. With you being my partner, it opens me to a world that I've always used to have, but it also takes a huge toll on me in the long run," he said as he stopped cooking.

As he kept on saying things that I didn't understand or couldn't even recall at all, I started to think about the days when I left him all alone. I thought, how did he even handle those nights when I wasn't around? Or how could he even wake up in his bed without thinking that I'm back in my parent's mansion and that he has no news of what's going on with me at that time? Well, I can suspect that, as he couldn't even move the moment he saw me that day at the university walking just fine.

"How did you handle...?"

I paused for a second as I heard what I was about to say. I just spoke my thoughts out of my mind!

"Yes?" He asked shortly.

"Nothing; don't mention it," I immediately answered.

"Do you want to ask something?" He asked carefully when he finally served the food on the dining table.

As he finished preparing the table for us, he then walked in my direction and sat right in front of me. Our faces are just inches away from each other, and he then asked again.

"Do you want to say something?" He asked.

I gulped just at the thought that there's only a tiny distance between our bodies, and I can literally feel the tension rising up, and it only added up to my thoughts in my mind that were running wild and crazy.

I can't function when he is this close.

"It's just that..."

The way he suddenly bit his lips just made it worse. How can he be this irresistible in front of me? The last time I knew him, I only felt a huge cut in my heart upon seeing him, but as time passed, his effect on me became much greater than I thought. Gosh, this is embarrassing.

"You can just tell me," he said in a whisper, but then our moment just got ruined when I heard footsteps coming from outside and about to enter our house.

"There are people coming," I said when I heard it much clearer now.

He can also tell when I see how his expression shifts into a cold one, like he's in his authoritative state.

Just like that, four people came in. There are three men and one woman who was completely shocked as she saw me.

"I thought you were dead?" She suddenly asked.

My eyebrows furrowed as I heard her question. What kind of sane woman would ask another woman that question? Rude.

"Look who's here, huh?" The man said as he checked me out.

"Argus, stop," Ysmael said, and he eventually followed.

They kept looking at me like I was a new person they just met, while the other guy that Ysmael called Argus scanned me from head to toe.

"Argus, I'm the one you need to," Ysmael finally gets his attention again.

"I'm sorry, it just felt new to me that you're alive and breathing just fine when in—"

"Argus, follow me."

Ysmael didn't let him finish what he was about to say, and now those words just add up to the bothersome idea of me having no context about what happened to me. Argus followed Ysmael to the other room, and I was left with the other three, but it seems like they have nothing to do with me, so I just looked at them and raised an eyebrow as I went straight to the table to take a seat and have breakfast.

I'm not planning on staying with them in the living room where I can feel their questionable stares at me. Well, even now I can sense them looking at me from behind, but I just don't mind them at all.

Minutes passed when Argus and he finally went out to join the others in the living room, and Ysmael patted my head as he walked past behind me. I can see how he tried to get their attention, and when they noticed me from the dining table looking at them, I heard them saying that they should go out if they wanted to have some small talk. So they noticed that my senses had already heightened, huh?

I continue eating while my mind is still hung up on the thought of waiting for him to join me, so I just eat slowly, and when I feel his presence coming near, I sit down properly and look in his direction. He just walked into the room and smiled slightly again.

"So what's that all about?" I asked.

"They just wanted to clarify things," he explained vaguely.

"Things like what?" I asked casually.

"Things you shouldn't know," he said, and that's it. I immediately stood up and got my plate to take it to the kitchen sink.

"I hate it already," I said as I looked at him again. "I hate it when you're trying to hide things from me when I'm just right here, ready to know about whatever's happening around. Don't you see I'm trying to figure things out? Why can't just all of you help me and find out what is going on?"

He seemed flushed at what I said, but as he recovered himself, he stood up to walk towards me, but then I motioned my hand to stop him.

"Don't use that "getting close to me" card because, I assure you, I'll immediately punch you in the face," I warned him.

"There's no need to be violent, honey," he said as he slowly took a step forward.

"I don't even want to be violent, but you're going to make me when you push yourself to get close," I said, trying to warn him again.

He sighed and stopped moving.

"Do you really want to know?" He asked, and that parted my lips. I can see desperation in his eyes, and the exhaustion inside of me just makes me nod in an instant.

He then, without any hesitation, cut the distance between us and hugged me so tight. I closed my eyes to fight the urge to not hug him back. He kissed the side of my head, but then he paused for a second, and what came out of his mouth next got me glued to that position.

"You got tortured clinically with the approval of your family," he whispered in my ear.

His hug tightened even more, and now all I could feel was pain.

I guess I wasn't prepared for this.

And now, it's already killing me.
