Bella walked towards the direction given to her for the restroom and got lost. The mansion is so big and one could easily get lost, she retraced her steps and headed towards the direction she came from, at least that's what she thought.
She stopped on her track when she heard voices
"Rollo was shot by Nikolai Klaus and the cottage was taken from him" a voice was saying and Bella slowly walked towards that direction, it was coming from a dark room at the left wing of the building.
"I do not understand why Nikolai Klaus will be interested in that cottage, something is not adding up. Did he see his face?" Bella recognized this voice to be Daniel's father but who are they talking about?" Well, she might as well just ask them for directions to go to the washroom and that's it, she shouldn't care what they're talking about
"I don't think he is after the cottage, he is after his pen drive and Rollo was stupid enough to tell him that the pen drive is with you"
"That fool, I want you to get rid of him" Calvin blew hot and Bella froze just as she was about to interrupt them, are they talking about killing someone? She quickly hid in the shadows and stiffened a gasp with her hand
"Nikolai Klaus cannot find out where that pen drive is"
"Where is the pen drive?"
"All I can tell you for now is that it's not in this mansion"
Bella wondered what is in that pen drive and who is Nikolai Klaus?
"I want Rollo dead tonight" Calvin said and Bella's stomach quivered, she needed to get out of here before they saw her. She could not believe what she had just heard, she made to leave but just then, her phone chose to ring.
Damn, it can only be one person calling her, he had given her phone the other day and so far, he is the only one who has her number, why the hell did he choose such a time to call her? She quickly pressed the end button but it was too late. The discussion had ceased from inside and slowly she heard steps walking towards her.
"What are you doing here?" Calvin asked and she fought the urge to shiver in fear, she licked her lips nervously
"I...I...I...am looking for the restroom" she stuttered and made to move past him but he made no move to leave her path
"The restroom is the other way" he said as he jutted his chin to the other direction
"Oh! I'm sorry, I must have missed my way"
"How long have you been standing there?" His gaze narrowed in suspicion as he stared deeply at her, noting all of her nervous gestures
"Me? I...I just got here" she lied and prayed that he believed her, she had a feeling that if he perceived that she heard what he was discussing, he would kill her too. She shivered at the thought and turned to leave
"Tell me what you heard" he whispered fiercely and suddenly grabbed her arms, "ain't you my son's little wife?"
Bella saw a glance passed between him and the man he was having discussion with, it was as if he was giving the man a silent order, fear raced through her as she thought of a way out
"I didn't hear anything Sir....p... please d... don't kill me" she pleaded
"Ha! Why would you say something like that? Why should I kill you?"
"Nothing...I....I...."
"What's going on here?" Daniel's voice suddenly boomed and Calvin immediately let go of her arm, Bella almost wept in joy at his arrival and she flung her arms around him
Daniel's brow furrowed as he glared at his father, "what were you doing with my wife?" He spat furiously
"I bumped into her and was just getting to know her, that's all"
Daniel patted her back and gently pushed her a little away from him so that he could look into her eyes, "Are you okay? Did he do something to you?"
"N ..n...no he didn't, I am okay but was just so happy to see you. I just want to go home, I'm tired"
"Alright, just wait for me outside, I'll join you shortly. I need to speak with Nicholas Calvin alone"
His father's face darkened at the use of his full name and his eyes burned into Bella's back as she walked away. He will leave her for now but watch her closely. Although, it was obvious that she had heard his conversation, it was also obvious that she had no clue whatsoever about what he was discussing but to be on the safe side, he will still have to execute her later.
"So, you finally decided to get married just for your mother's fortune huh?"
"I married her because I love her" Daniel retaliated back without batting an eye, "and if you touch even a strand of hair on her head, you will answer to me"
"I am a successful businessman, not a killer" Calvin's tone sounded offended and Daniel scoffed
"Tell that to the one who killed my mother and took away most of her wealth"
"Watch it young man, you have no proof about what you are saying. Your mother willingly gave me those companies and I didn't kill her"
"Let me warn you, I will definitely avenge my mother and recover every single dime of her wealth. Her killer will not go unpunished" his tone held a strong warning and both he and his dad stared at each other for a moment, animosity flare between them
"You can't threaten me, you don't have an idea who I am"
"No? So tell me, who are you? Apart from being the one responsible for my mother's death, what more can you say"
Nicholas Calvin gritted his teeth, "watch it, I am still your father"
"And that is a curse I will always live with"
"You should be grateful that he even birthed you because if your slut of a mother did not throw herself at the first man that comes her way, you would not be existing" Joey said as she came into view and stood beside her husband, she was searching for her husband and got in just in time to hear his last conversation with Daniel
Daniel's hands fisted so tight, he felt he would burst from the anger that bubbled in his heart, "perhaps you are not woman enough to keep your husband attracted that he had to go out there for a more beautiful woman. You are not even woman enough to give him a child....."
Joey paled at his words and she swayed a bit, her husband quickly grabbed her to steady her but she angrily flung his hands away, if he hadn't cheated on her, this bastard would not be in her house insulting her. "Shut up! Just shut up"
"Truth hurts huh?"
"Get out of my house, you are not welcomed here and will never be welcomed. You will always remain the bastard child of Nicholas Calvin"
"I'd rather remain a bastard son than to be acknowledged by this monster" Daniel clenched out before storming off angrily.
Tears of anger spilled from Joey's eyes and she glared at her husband, "it's all your fault, I hate you just as I hate him with the whole of my being" she hissed and walked away from him.
"That wretched boy" Calvin voiced angrily
"Boss, do you want me to take care of him?" His subordinate who has been hiding in the shadows came out and asked
Calvin thought for a while before shaking his head, "in time you will but not just yet"
"What about his wife?"
"Get rid of her", Calvin stalked away to his room, his night completely ruined.
