Chapter 30

"I was really concerned about your health since you've been working so hard, so I added some vitamins to your bottle."

"Zuriña..."

"I couldn't help but feel something's been wrong for a while. You know way too much about the angels of death and purebloods. Sources, I believe can only tell you much."

"Why are you suspicious of me all of a sudden? I have to know these things because I'm on the vampire task force."

"Then who's Katherine Smith? I saw there was a lot of money going back and forth between you two. You also knew I was a pureblood from the get go. Were you trying to get close to me to use me?That's by the way. You once said vampires can only consume food and beverages and their blood stops circulating if they take other foods., which brings me to the pills you take every time. They're for blood circulation, aren't they?"

He scoffed and slowly rose as he turned to her and her eyes locked with bright red eyes and fangs. "You could be a first class detective, Zuriña."

"I knew it." She muttered under her breath.

He slowly walked towards her. "You asked if I was using you...is there something wrong with that?"

"Then..."

"You look like you're about to beat me up."

"I haven't decided on whether I'm going to or not. It depends on how you answer my questions."

He scoffed. "And do you think you'll be able to handle the truth?"

"Who are you, really?"She asked. She'd get to know other things from there.

He raked his fingers into her hair with a ragged sigh. "I'm a member of the police force."

"Are you one of Master's minions?" She asked and he pretended to think. "Let's see... maybe, maybe not."

How could he be so despicable? "Why did you approach me in the first place? Were you deceiving me all this time?"She asked and he cracked his fists. "Why don't we make things interesting? I'll tell you everything you want to know if you beat me in a fight."

Her eyes widened. "Are you serious?... Let's not do this here. I'm not in the mood for a fight."

"Honestly, I've been wanting to know how strong you really are, Zuriña. How is it that not even and angel of death could stand a chance against you?...Are purebloods that strong?"

He'd seen her fight other vampires before and he wouldn't be confident if he didn't have something tucked up his sleeve.

"So you want to do things the hard way."She sighed.

"Exactly. I don't like taking the easy way out."He replied and she gave up on trying to persuade him. With her strength, she could take him down in a minute or two .

She advanced towards him but he swiftly dodged her attack and she was surprised to realize how fast he was compared to other vampires. He made to hit her but she rolled from where he was, almost evading his attack.

She gritted her teeth. Going easy on home as out of the option.

He pulled down her blouse and both made to attack each other when the door swung open.

"Oh my God, what are you two doing?" The woman shrieked and Zuriña wondered why she was staring so hard at them until she looked down to discover her bra was partially exposed from the way he'd held her and she looked like she was about to take his shirt off.

They hurriedly released each other to avoid further misunderstanding.

"Ma'am... actually, this is a...judo move..."

"I don't care what that is...you can't do that in here." She said as she walked over to push Zuriña out.

"Ma'am..."She was protesting when she turned to discover Kaiwan was gone.

"Coward."She gritted her teeth and walked bout of the restaurant, headed for no where in particular. She had to clear her head before heading home first.

He'd supported her in her quest to defeat Master and he'd known she was a vampire but still lent a hand, only for her to discover he was doing all that for selfish reasons.

"Let me go."She heard someone scream and she turned to the direction where it came from. A group of people were running towards the place and she slowly walked from behind.

She arrived at the scene and it turned out to be an apartment on fire. A lady was particularly crying as she tried to enter but someone held her back.

"When is the fire department coming here?"

"I heard they can't because of the cars parked illegally around here."

"The fire's getting bigger and bigger."

"I really need to go in." The girl said and Zuriña's eyes moved to her.

"You need to calm down first."

"You don't understand. It's really important to me...I really need to go in."She said, trying to free herself from his grip.

"You'll die if you go in." He yelled and the girl fell to the ground with a thud, dropping her head as she cried.

"I really need to get in."

"When you feel empathetic towards humans... someone might call out to you for help."She recalled Father's words.

She cracked her head as she walked up to her.

"What's it exactly?"

The girl lifted her head and Zuriña saw tears in her eyes. "It's a steel box under my clothes rack."

"Steel box, you said." She asked as she walked over to a drench herself with a bucket of water nearby before she dashed into the building.

Luckily for her, the bedroom was at the other side of the apartment which was yet to be gutted with fire. The door was almost torn down by the fire, so it was rather easy for her to gain access.

There was a fire extinguisher by the kitchen so she hurried over to grab it before spraying it over the apartment as she headed for the room, reducing the fire.

The steel box was located under her clothes rack as she'd said bent over to pull it out before it got burnt.

The girl was biting her nails nervously where she sat when she rushed out and everyone applauded her as she handed over the box to the girl who rose to take off her jacket before wearing it over Zuriña's shoulders.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

She smiled and Katherine, the girl looked down at the box.

"Thank you so much."

"It's nothing."

She replied as she went over to sit down.

"You really surprised me back there. You almost jumped into the burning building without looking back." Katherine said.

"Yeah, I can be reckless at times." Zuriña said and made to take the jacket off when Katherine wore it properly over her shoulders.

"You're going to catch a cold." She protested.

"It's fine. It could be -60° and I'd still be okay."

"It could be -60° and I'd still put ice in my drink." She said and both girls laughed.

"I'm Katherine."

"I'm Zuriña."

"We're like two peas in a pod."She said with a sneeze and Zuriña took off the jacket and wore it over Katherine.

"Here, you should put it back on." She said and looked down at the box. "I'm really curious to know what's in that box."

"Oh, please. Take a look."She said and Zuriña slowly pushed aside the lid to reveal clothes patches.

"Aren't these patches you put on clothes?"

"Yeah they are. I'm sorry I made you run into a burning building for this." She sounded apologetic.

"Don't worry. I wasn't judging." She smiled.

"Yeah, I know but I want you to know these patches are more important to me than money. My dream is to become a fashion designer."

She heard approaching steps like someone was running and she turned to see the detective running towards them, a worried look on his face.

She was surprised as she didn't expect to see him so soon after their fight. "Detective...How are you here?"

He looked away for a minute like he was ashamed to be there at that moment.

"Katherine is my sister."

"What?" She asked.

Katherine rose as she walked up to him, hatred written all over her face.

"Long time no see." He sighed.

"How dare you show up here, you murderer?"
