Chapter 32

The sky rumbled and he continued.

"The man had smiled down at me and released me from his grip before he had led me inside to introduce me as the newest member of the team. My parents had particularly seemed surprised to see me and I had lied that I had always wanted to be a vampire.

I had been offered to the blood of a vampire almost immediately and I had tried to talk his way out as drinking the blood of a vampire wasn't the plan... but unfortunately that did not seem to work.

I had to change the topic by informing my parents that vampires could not live past five years and my parents did not seem to believe a word of what I said until I told them that the huge man, who was their leader was living his fifth year, his bloated left arm giving him out.

That seemed to have enraged everyone as they turned their leader who tried to talk his way out of it. Unfortunately, when he had realised he could not, he had turned towards me and plunged his hand through my body, intending to using me as a scapegoat.

My parents and other vampires tried to fight the man but he had finished them off in a single hit.I was almost losing consciousness when I heard Katherine's voice nearby and the man headed out of the church looking like he had seen his prey for the night."

He paused for a minute before he continued.

"There was no way I could let anything happen to her, I was her big brother after all so I had crawled all the way to where my parents' body lay and as they slowly dissipated before I slurped up their blood. I remember my heart feeling like it was going to rip out of my rib cage and gasping for breath until I lost consciousness for a moment."

"What happened after that?" She asked, completely intrigued by his story.

"I woke up a couple of minutes later and the first thing that came to my head amidst the transformation, was the image of Katherine becoming dinner for that vampire. I loved my sister so I headed out of the church just in time to meet him running his fangs over her neck.

Anger boiled in me and I was not aware of how strong I had become until I killed the man in a fight.

I had hid the truth about our parents even when the police asked for my statement. I wasn't sure if it was because Katherine couldn't forgive me for not telling her what happened that night, but she moved out shortly afterwards on seeing the monster I had become...Sometimes, I wonder what our relationship would have been like if I told her the truth back then. Will things have been any better?" He leaned back with a sigh. "That's why she hate my guts."

So she had been wrong about him.

"She doesn't. If she really hated you, she would have turned you in a long time ago for being a vampire."

He turned to look at her.

"Anyway, you get it now right? I have spent countless sleepless nights gathering information and doing whatever I could to keep the promise I made to myself years ago, to make this world a place where Katherine could feel safe and happy...but the vampires only became more powerful and grew in influence as if nothing I did mattered and when I realised I couldn't do this alone, I found you...that's why I need your help."

"How were you able to hide the fact that you are a vampire?"

"I avoided drinking blood since you can't disguise the smell."

There was one thing she was curious about.

"Then when did you first find out about me?" She asked and he looked like he was going to tell her for a minute before he smiled.

"That's a secret."

This annoying jerk. How long would he keep hiding it from her?

"Is it a bit of a letdown that I didn't turn out to be a powerful vampire. what would you have done if I were an angel of death?"

"That's a secret." Zuriña replied and turned to leave.

"I'm sorry."

She heard him say and she turned to see an apologetic look on his face. "I feel like I have put you under pressure to help me."

"Don't worry. Getting rid of vampires is something I need to do anyway." She said and walked in, closing the door as she did.

She leaned against the door with a sigh. She finally felt relieved that he wasn't hiding anything from her and they could both work in transparency and truth but she felt he had missed his sister so much no matter how hard he tried to hide that fact and Katherine probably felt the same too.

"Thanks Zuriña..." She heard him say from the other side.

"...but I think I need to speed things up a little...I only have six months to live."
