Seven am had Kaiwan looking over some files at his desk over a cup of tea. The local authority had sent him the complied list of suspects from the arson case and their addresses.
His eyes fell on one of the suspect and his eyes widened almost immediately. So he had not been
wrong to suspect that bastard.
He dropped the documents and pulled himself closer to his desk as he clicked on the surveillance video of Katherine's apartment. Barely a couple of minutes into the video, he noticed Katherine's boyfriend lurking around her house suspiciously and he clenched his fist.
Katherine was in danger.
He picked up his phone and placed a call to the local authority's office and his call was answered on the second ring.
"Good morning, Detective."
"I want to request that backup be sent to Suspect 38's residence. I repeat backup should be sent ASAP."
"Yes, sir."
He sprang to his feet and was headed for the garage when Zuriña walked out of her bedroom brushing her wig.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
He hesitated for a minute before he voiced out. "I think Katherine is in danger."
"What?"
"I'll tell you the details when I get back." He said and she sped over to block him.
"Woah..."He almost screamed in fright.
"Aren't we a team?" She asked as she slipped on her wig and turned to open the door.
"You're going out like this?" He asked, referring to the armless top and bum short she was putting on.
She looked down to examine herself before she slanted her eyes over her shoulder.
"Why? Are you tempted?"
"You must be joking." He scoffed and they turned to walk to the garage.
"The details."She said as she pulled up the roller door.
"The local authority sent me a footage last night of Katherine's residence before the fire. I was too tired to watch it yesterday so I did this morning." He explained as he slid on his helmet before he mounted his bike.
"And?" She asked mounting her bike as she slid her helmet over her head and raised the screen.
"He was spotted loitering around her house before setting the house on fire."
"I figured he was lying when he said he had run all the way from the bus station. He didn't look sweaty at all." She said and was about to start the bike when she recalled it was out of gas.
"Wait." She said as the detective started his bike and he turned back to watch her mount his bike.
"What are you doing?" He asked as she slid her arms around him.
"Don't misunderstand. My bike is out of gas."
"Yeah, whatever...hold on tight." He told her and moved his and on the accelerator before he drove out of the garage.
"Where are we going?" She asked.
"That bastard's house. Katherine will definitely be there." He replied.
Katherine, please be safe. He prayed silently as he sped up. Background info had told him that was a lingerie thief and now he was an arsonist. He hated to admit, his sister's taste was a terrible one.
Linc's house wasn't far from his sister's so they arrived in a couple of minutes and they hurriedly alighted, taking off their helmets as they did.
They stealthily tiptoed to the entrance and Kaiwan heard his sister yell and Linc shut her down almost immediately and he clenched his fist. If that bastard dared to hurt his sister...
The kitchen window was slightly opened and he opened it quietly as he could before he proceeded to slip in followed behind by Zuriña.
"I had already set up the deal..." Linc was saying and Kaiwan turned to see him talking to a tied up Katherine in his room.
"...I would have been fucked if your brother has found out."
"Looks like you're really fucked then."
Linc flinched as he turned to see them in the room.
"What the hell...how did you..."
Kaiwan approached him with a murderous glare. "Don't think of trying anything funny."
"Zuriña..." Katherine whined.
"Are you okay?"
Linc made to grab Katherine and use her as shield but Kaiwan sensed it was the next thing he would do, so he grabbed him and turned to drag him into the bathroom.
"I believe you are dying to know how I found out. I asked the local police station to contact me anything went wrong at my sister's house. I thought it was weird how you weren't sweating despite having supposedly run quite a long way, so I check the footage. You were spotted loitering near the house a few hours before the fire and after you set fire to the house, you waited until Katherine arrived." Linc swallowed hard and he continued. "You have two options. Give me the ledger of your little business and go to jail..."He said and hit his fist against the toilet tiles.
"...Or be known as a notorious underwear thief. It's up to you. I've already written an article that is ready for publication."
He got on his knees and pleaded.
"Please...I'll do anything you want."
"Get out of here." He scowled grabbing him by the collar as he dragged him out.
"Backup is around, I will handle it from here." Zuriña said and cuffed him before she turned to lead him outside, leaving the siblings together.
"Do you think you can just show up and act like you're my brother again?" Katherine yelled, as she rubbed her wrists where Linc had tied her and he found it difficult to look back at her.
"Do you know what is like having to get help from our uncle all these years?"
"Katherine, I...I'm sorry..."
"Why?...Why did you hide it from me?Why didn't you tell me you were pretending to be about uncle?" She asked and he was forced to look up at her. How on earth did she know? "How did you know?...I mean...our uncle told me to..."
"You're really selfish, do you know that?"She asked and he knew she was right. What had he been thinking when he came to her place on the day of the fire? There was no way she will welcome him with open arms.
"Katherine, I am only here today because a crime was committed... I am really sorry. I know I can't make up for what I did but as soon as this is over, you will never see me again, I promise." He said and turned to leave. "Is that..." She was saying when he was almost at the door and he turned back to see tears welling up in her eyes as she stared at something. He followed her eyes to see the keychain she had made for him sticking out of his pocket and he quickly tucked it in.
He had barely reached for the door when she hugged him from behind wetting his back with tears.
"Why...why did it take you so long to find me?"
