Chapter 52

"Zuriña... Zuriña."

Her eyes flew open and she stirred awake. Her head was pounding and she held onto it as she sat up.

"How're you feeling? Are you okay?"

She turned to the detective, who had a worried look on his face. "How long have I been out?" "Don't worry, you were only lying down for a while."

"That's a relief." She said and he rose.

"I'll get you something to drink so just lie down in the meantime."

"Detective..." She called on his way out and he turned to her.

"Yeah?"

"So..."

So what? She wondered. She'd regained all her memories about the past. Did she find it difficult to believe Yiannais had killed her parents even after she'd seen her dad die.

"So?"

"So..."What was wrong with her?

"Zuriña." He called and she raised her head. "Don't push yourself too much."

The look on his face showed he was truly concerned about her and she smiled.

"I have something to tell you."

"Alright." He said and headed out of the room.

Her mind shifted uncontrollably to her heart, which had stabled down, compared to the other night. Hopefully, her agitations would cease now that she's regained her memories.

The detective was back less than a minute later, bearing a tray of soup. She didn't have much of an appetite but she knew he wasn't going to allow her skip that meal.

"How's it?" He asked as she took the first spoon.

"It's delicious." She faked a smile.

"The room must be a little stuffy. Can we go out for some air, after?"

"Sure."

She was surprised to realise they weren't in Clifford town on stepping out after lunch, a couple of minutes later and as they walked to a nearby stream, Zuriña gave a summary of her recalled past.

"So such a thing happened." Kaiwan sighed.

"It was like a long dream. Maybe it's from the shock, I'm still a bit dizzy, or maybe it's because I haven't recovered yet. It has never happened before."

He folded his arms with a frown. "The more I think about it, the more surprising it is. How did a newly transformed vampire, manage to do that to your parents who were purebloods?"

She shrugged. "I don't know...That's something Yian,...no Yiannais Peterson only knows."

She lowered her head to the flowing water. Her dad had once promised to teach her how to fish when she was little.

"Zuriña..."

She turned to him."Yeah?"

"Do you remember the day we met at school, you brightened up, just now like that day."

She smiled. "Really? Must be because I was reminiscing the past."

"Zuriña, you..."

She sighed as she raised her head to the sky. "The sky is so blue. But it feels like I'm the only one who's looking at this beautiful sky." Tears rose in her eyes and she tried to fight them back. "I feel guilty...It just feels it's because of me."

She sniffed as she dropped her head to wipe her tears with her hand. "I'm being weird...Let's go in." She said and made to head back for the inn when she stumbled, almost falling when Kaiwan caught her.

"Your shoulders seem heavy...So please, just share some of the weight with me. Even though I may not look like it,I'm pretty good at carrying heavy things..." He paused to pull her to safety. "So just you know, I'm not saying this as a colleague." He said and walked ahead of her.

"You're a good guy." She muttered and he turned back to her.

"Did you say something?"

She swallowed as she turned to the stream. "Nope."

A frog leapt into the water, splashing a little water and she laughed. "It's a frog...and its' shoulders are so wide...What am I saying? Frogs don't have shoulders."

He chuckled as she walked side by side with him. "Do you know how many centimetres my shoulders are?"

"No."

"It's sixty three centimetres wide...Seems you don't know stuff. This is the fluttering shoulders a man should have." He said and her mind shifted to what he had said. what did he mean by saying he wasn't saying it as a colleague?

An elderly man in his sixties was sitting at the entrance of the inn and Zuriña was surprised when he asked.

"Are you leaving now?"

Kaiwan bowed. "Yeah. We're very indebted to you."

"This place had an owner?" She asked and the man turned to her with a smile.

"Did it seem like a rundown without an owner?"

She shook her head."I didn't mean that."

"I'll prepare the bikes. Walk down to the end of the street once you take your belongings." He said and turned to leave.

"What a good young man. He was worried since you were on the verge of death." The man staring at Kaiwan's receding back.

She was confused. "What are you talking about? Verge of death?"

The man turned to her. "Miss, you were unconscious for a week and half."

"I was unconscious for that long?" She asked, dumbfounded.

The man returned his eyes to Kaiwan. "And that young man, I thought he was going to give up his life. He looked like he would die if he couldn't save you...He couldn't sleep or eat. He only stayed by your side. You don't know how stubborn he was. You looked like you're going to die soon so I thought it would be better if you go to the hospital but he said he could only relax if the medicine or water came from his hand..." The man turned to her. "...so be good to him."

"Thank you sir."

She walked into get her bag and his before she set out to meet him, after bading the man goodbye.

Her bike was in working condition and she was glad to see her beauty turn back on.

"Thanks, detective."

"For what?"

"Everything." She smiled as she mounted her bike and they hit the road immediately.

"What's the recent?"

"I think we should deal with Yiannais first, but we don't have any information on where he is or what he is planning to do."

That was going to be tricky. Now that Yiannais had exposed himself to be the Master, she had a clearer knowledge of who she was fighting with. But being the cunny jerk he was, he'd gone back into hiding.

She sensed an aura ahead and she clenched to the accelerator in anger.

"I guess it seems we can do faster than expected."

"What do you mean?" Kaiwan asked as they drove under an overhead bridge and she spotted someone standing at the end of the bridge.

"That bastard." Kaiwan swore.

"He's an angel of death right?...That bastard is an angel of death." A wicked smile crossed her lips as she felt blue eyes brighten. "I will rip him apart and kill him."

They stopped their bikes foots away from him and she took off her helmet and her claws elongated, as she was ready to attack when her heart sped up again.

What was going on with her body? She didn't care, she was going to end him there today.

She was about to alight when Kaiwan did and turned to walk towards Vael. "Riña, did you forget? The fact I'm also a vampire?"

He smiled. "Very tear-jerking.The detective protecting a pureblood, but what should I do? I don't have anything to do with you. I wanted to meet Miss Zuriña Anderson because I'm a great gourmet and I'm curious how it would taste...a pureblood's blood."

"This fucking bastard, who do you think you're looking at?"

Vael threw the first punch but Kaiwan was quick to grab his fist to Vael's surprise.

"Oh, I see you're not human either. But you're not a normal one either."

Kaiwan smiled as he slowly transformed. "You just realised that? I wonder why an angel of death is this slow."

Vael smiled."I thought there was delicious smelling blood. Turns out that that was yours. I like mixed bloods too."

"Would you look at that face? Are all angels of death perverts? I'm warning you for the last time. If you come close, it won't be good for you."

Vael straightened. "Scared? Don't worry and stop glaring at me. I didn't come to fight." He flapped his suit and got on a knee, before he bowed his head.

"I'm Vael. I've come to show my allegiance to the real pureblood."

Vael straightened. "Scared? Don't worry and stop glaring at me. I didn't come to fight." He flapped his suit and got on a knee, before he bowed his head.

"I'm Vael. I've come to show my allegiance to the real pureblood."
