Chapter 51

Her parents had decided to stay in the town for a few days as they believed Yiannais would be fully recovered by then. Yiannais had particularly being obedient and hadn't left his room ever since that day.

She had snuck back into the room one day during lunch time, holding two cups of grape juice and had met him staring at his reflection in the mirror.

"How do you feel?" She had asked and he had turned to look at her. "You haven't eaten anything for two days now."

"I can't consume anything other than frozen blood and water."

She had smiled as she went to sit beside him. "You can drink this." She had told him.

"No need."

She had seemed disappointed but she didn't wear her look on her face.

"So...what happened that day?"

"I don't want to talk about it." Yian had said and rose to his feet.

Her heart broke. Why had been distancing himself from her. "Is it...because of that incident?"

She had disguised herself on an occasion when he'd been bullied by some of his mates and had beaten crap out of them and she recalled Yian had been terribly frightened to have seen her true identity.

"I thought you needed help and because you're my friend. I helped you...don't worry...

I won't appear in front of you." She had said crying and she'd headed out.

"Wait..." He had been saying when he'd slammed his fist against the door and she had been shocked to see blood dripping out of his nose. Frightened, she had ran back to check on him.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." He had said and turned to the door. "Would you look at that?"

She had turned her head to see his face on the door and they had burst out laughing.

"I wasn't afraid... you're my friend after all." He had told her when the laughter had died down.

She'd been surprised. " I can still be friends with you?"

He had smiled."Of course."

She had lightened up immediately. "Seriously? Then let's look at the falling leaves next autumn... There must be lots of rabbits by then."

The door had opened and her mother had walked in, bearing a tray of two bowls of soup. "I knew you'd be here, Riña. It's time for lunch."

Everything in front of them had been nothing but happiness until news a couple of nights later. Students had been attacked in one of the high schools in the town and their bodies all had claw marks on them. Without being told, she had knew who had behind it.

Her father had hit his fist against the table. "It can't be like this... Before this becomes a bigger problem, he has to be stopped."

"Honey, what are we going to do?" Her mother had asked and she had watched her dad cupped her mum's face.

"Take Zuriña to the new house. I'll take care of Yiannais and meet you there."

Her mother had taken her immediately and sped out of the house and it had supposed to have been a happy moment for her but it hadn't.

Yiannais had murdered people.

"Mom, what will happen to Yian now?" She'd asked, wrapping her arm around her mother's neck as she raced out of the town.

"Dad's gonna handle that situation."

They had only been a couple of metres from their new home when her mother had stopped and had clutched to her chest.

"What's wrong, mum?"

"We need to go back." Her mother had said and they had turned to head back for Clifford town.

Just at the entrance of the city, her father's body lay in his pool of blood. Her mother had dropped her to tend to her father and she had burst into tears on seeing the state he was in.

"Honey...wake up, honey."

"Daddy..."

Her mother had raised her wrist and was about to bite through when she realised something and Zuriña had followed her mother's eyes.

"His heart...is gone ."

"Daddy..."

Her father had groaned as he had raised his hand to her cheek.

"I'm sorry...my daughter...run away."

Her eyes were blurred with tears.

"Daddy." Her father had dropped his hand with a thud and she'd buried her face in his neck and she cried, unable to believe her father was dead.

She'd been that way for a few minutes, until her mother had turned her to face her and she had been shocked to see her mother had transformed.

"My daughter..." Her mother had started as she cupped her cheek with her right hand tears crawling down her face.

"I'm sorry I didn't let you make friends and didn't send you to school...I'm sorry I made you feel lonely all this time. I'm sorry I couldn't make you your favourite grape slush juice often...but from now on you have to forget all these bad things and live."

"What does that mean?"

Her mother had smiled through her tears.

"Can you make a promise with mum? Turn around and run away."

She'd rose up and started walking out of town, like she'd been told to as she hadn't realised her body was moving on its own will, since her mother had hypnotized her.

She'd collapsed on the road a few minutes later and before her eyes gave way to the darkness, she had seen an injured Yiannais trying to reach for her.
