Chapter Any Volunteers?

Chapter 45

Aurora

“Don't worry Sam, she will be fine, I promise. I will speak to Aurora about hastening up her research and giving us something to start it." I heard him say as I got close to the throne room door.

I took in a deep breath and exhaled, I knew it was my time to step in so I spoke up loudly,

“That won't be necessary, I have found the cure,” I said as I walked into the room. Everyone turned look at me so quickly with disbelief written all over their faces. I wasn't surprised by the reaction, it was still a shock to me too, I never thought I would find the cure so quickly and in such an unbelievable manner.

Ethan shifted I his seat and asked, “What do you mean? Did you actually find the cure?” he seemed to have spoken everybody's mind because they all nodded eagerly.

“Yes, I have found the cure." I stated trying to keep a straight face then I took out a bottle for my lab coat and placed it on the table. Everyone eyed the bottle on the table with shock, disbelief and greedy eyes.

If looks had superpowers, the bottle would have probably disappeared with the way the were staring at it.

“But… but how? How did you manage to do it so quickly?” Ethan asked again as he picked up the bottle as if it was the most delicate item on earth.

It wasn't as quickly as he made it sound. I have spent months working on the cure but, I assumed, just as I thought, that Ethan was in awe the cure didn't take years to find.

The cure was discovered in the most unexpected way and if I told him then there would be an uproar that might put our son in danger. Of course I couldn't tell him that even if that was the truth. Out of everyone, he was the one I couldn't trust the most. I mean he abandoned and threatened me years ago even with his unborn child in me, he then went ahead to kidnap me and bring me here to help the pack against my wishes.

What's to say he won't order the guards to hold me hostage while he takes Arne and sacrifice his blood to save the pack? At this point I couldn't put it past him, he would do everything to please the pack.

“I had a miracle breakthrough but it is not yet 100% effective until we test it. We need to test it on patients and see how effective it is. That's why I have come hear to seek your permission to use it on infected pack members, we can only know the truth when we tests it on them directly.” I explained to them calmly even though my heart was racing.

I had spent all day couped up in my office running through numerous tests and experiments using my son's blood as a sample. I was still conflicted -exposing my son's identity or fleeing the pack with him- but damn my doctor’s oath to save lives no matter what, I was still in the throne room, standing and waiting for an agreement to my proposal.

After confirming that my son's blood was the cure, I found out that one pint from him could kill the virus cells in a full human in less than an hour, that was how scary it was.

If word gets out that one pint of Arne's blood could cure the infected in the speed of lightning then both our lives would be in danger.

I had to think fast and smart, I began studying the unique constituents of his blood and using it to make a more dilute cure that will suffice in curing the entire pack. According to my calculations, the dilute cure would use the normal treatment time of a couple weeks or months depending on severity to kill the virus completely. No one will know that the medicine consisted of at most 0.01 percent of my son's blood and no one will ever know, I was willing to take this discovery to the grave.

“So you're trying to say that this medicine is still a test run and you want to use our relatives as lab rats to test it's viability?” The comments arose discussions from the elders and it made me frown in disapproval. I was really beginning to think that Ethan made the wrong people as elders, they were so ungrateful and uncouth.

"Could you just be quiet and listen to her. Even without her testing out the medicine, your relatives will still be taken by the plague, so just allow her do and thing and for the goddess' sake, cooperate!" Ethan barked out without mercy as if hearing my thoughts.

“It’s okay your highness, I can understand their concern. That's why it's not compulsory, I just need a few people to volunteer, I already ran caution tests to tell that there would be no detrimental effects even though the cure doesn't work.” I assured with a clear voice. I knew it would work but they didn't need to know that yet.

The elders continued murmuring and speaking amongst themselves, no one spoke up about volunteering, I could tell they is scared. I sighed inwardly, I already knew that the cure would work but I couldn't just announce it with such certainty because it could arose suspicion as to why I was so sure without proper tests. Logically I shouldn't be so sure that the first cure I could make was 100% effective so I had to play along but now people where hesitating to try it out for fear of the backlash if things goes south.

I maintained my composed look while I continued waiting for someone to say something. I wasn't really that worried, it wouldn't be that hard to get a volunteer. If I had announced the discovery of the cure at the hospital's sick ward, I wouldn't even need to finish the sentence before people would crowd me for it. There would be less people who cared if it was a trial test because they would want to recover by all means possible.

Just when I was about to give up. I heard someone say, “Well, in that case… I volunteer my father, your former king for the trial test” Ethan was the owner of that voice.
