Chapter 12: Last days in Greece

The next few days on the island seemed to pass by in a blur for Bella. Reid's presence remained somewhat elusive, as he was either immersed in business matters or engaged in leisure activities with her father, Richard.

Bella saw Reid only sporadically during this time, and their interactions were limited to polite exchanges and casual greetings. He appeared preoccupied, his attention divided between important business deals and leisurely pursuits.

Some evenings, Bella would catch glimpses of him from afar, engage in intense discussions with her father or challenge him to a game of pool. She couldn't help but admire the ease with which Reid navigated both the corporate and leisure aspects of their stay.

While the separation between them provided Bella with some much-needed emotional respite, it also left her with a sense of longing. She found herself yearning for the moments when they had shared conversations or were spending time by the pool while she was swimming and he was working.

As the days passed, Bella's mind became a whirlwind of emotions and unanswered questions, becoming more confused.

As their time on the private island drew to a close, Bella's father, Richard, gathered the family together to deliver some news. He advised them that they would need to return to the United States the following day. The vacation, as exquisite as it had been, was coming to an end.

Bella's mother, with her usual enthusiasm, leaned in and spoke to Bella with a cheerful tone, "Darling, it's our last day here, and we simply must take advantage of this fantastic weather. Let's all go out and soak up the sun by the pool. Go and change."

Upon hearing her mother's enthusiastic proclamation about making the most of the fantastic weather and spending their last day by the pool, Bella's heart sank. She couldn't help but recall the intense scene she had stumbled upon by the pool, the painful image of Reid with the brunette forever etched in her memory.

Ever since that day, Bella had found it nearly impossible to approach the pool area or immerse herself in its inviting waters. The vivid memories of what she had witnessed haunted her, causing her to avoid the pool as if it were a place of heartache and turmoil.

The mere thought of returning to that area filled her with a sense of dread, as if the tranquil oasis had been tainted by the revelation of what had transpired there. Bella's reluctance was not lost on her mother, who, with well-intentioned but misguided enthusiasm, urged her daughter to go and change so they could enjoy the final day of sun together.

Bella's blood seemed to drain from her face as she contemplated the idea of returning to the poolside. She knew that she couldn't reveal the true reason for her aversion, so she simply nodded and forced a weak smile. With a heavy heart, she retreated to her room to change, hoping to find the strength to face her fears and join her family for what should have been a carefree day by the pool, but once inside her room she realized that she couldn't do it .

Reid's acute perception had allowed him to sense Bella's discomfort, and it left a pang of guilt in his heart. He had never intended to cause her any distress or hurt, and the thought that his presence or actions might have contributed to her unease weighed heavily on him.

He made a conscious effort to behave as if that fateful day by the pool had never happened. He didn't want to dwell on the past or burden Bella with any further discomfort. Instead, he aimed to create an atmosphere of normalcy between them, same as before, prior to when the devil from his shoulder pointed at him how attractive Bella became.

Despite his best efforts to behave normally around Bella during the day, the events that had transpired at the pool continued to haunt Reid late into the night. As he lay in his bed, his thoughts were consumed by the vivid memory of Bella's face – the hint of discomfort in her eyes, the intense blush that had colored her cheeks.

In the quiet solitude of his room, Reid couldn't escape the inner turmoil that had taken root within him. He found himself tormented by fantasies that he had tried to suppress and purge from his mind – the vision of Bella in the place of the brunette, holding her body, her presence igniting a fierce and undeniable passion within him. He lost count of how many cold showers he had to take to appease his inner beast.

These thoughts drove him to frustration, a deep and profound yearning that he couldn't easily dismiss. He knew that the age difference and their complex circumstances made any romantic involvement between them ill-advised, but his heart and body refused to conform to the boundaries of reason.

As the night wore on, Reid wrestled with his emotions, grappling with the undeniable attraction he felt towards Bella and the impossibility of acting on it. The weight of his desires and the constraints of their reality left him in a state of profound frustration, and he couldn't help but wonder how long he could continue to deny the feelings that had ignited within him.

He was in an internal limbo; he was happy that his guests were leaving and at the same time, he was dreading not to see Bella every day. The most he was missing were her daily swimming sessions; it was calming him to no end to see the mesmerizing mermaid in his swimming pool or seated lazy on a sunbed.

While lost in his introspection, he didn’t notice that Bella had returned from her bedroom, but was still not changed into her swimming suit.

Bella emerged from her bedroom, her expression weary and her steps hesitant. She approached her mother and softly spoke, "Mom, I'm not feeling too well. I have a bit of a headache, and the sun seems to be bothering me. I think it would be better if I just lay down inside my room for a while."

Her mother slightly frowned, her concern evident. But Reid, who had been observing Bella closely, understood the underlying reason. Bella's discomfort was not solely due to a headache; it was clear that the events of their vacation had left a mark on her, and she needed some time and space to forgive and forget.

The day of departure arrived, and Bella and her family prepared to return to the United States. Their bags were packed, and the private plane that had brought them to the private island now awaited them for their journey back home.

Reid, ever the gracious host, accompanied them to the plane to bid them farewell. As they stood on the tarmac, he extended his warmest thanks to Richard and his family for sharing their vacation with him. He expressed the hope that they had enjoyed their stay and that they were always welcomed.

"Richard, it's been a pleasure having you and your family here," Reid said with a genuine smile. "I hope you all had a wonderful time."

Richard returned the smile, expressing his appreciation. "Reid, this trip has been unforgettable. We couldn't have asked for a better host. Thank you for your hospitality."

Reid turned to Bella's mother, his tone gracious as he spoke. "And to you, Isabella, thank you for gracing us with your presence. I hope you enjoyed your time here."

Isabella replied with a warm smile and a nod. "Reid, it's been an amazing experience. We appreciate your generosity."

Finally, Reid's gaze settled on Bella. Their eyes met, and for a moment, an unspoken understanding passed between them. He extended his hand to her, and she took it, their farewell more subdued but laced with an unspoken acknowledgment of the complexities that had arisen during their time together.

"Bella," Reid began, his voice gentle, "I hope you find some time for yourself and good luck with your studies. It's been a pleasure having you here as well."

She managed a polite smile, her response measured. "Thank you, Reid. I appreciate your hospitality."

Bella, though still harbouring a mix of emotions from their time on the island, managed a polite and composed smile as she exchanged farewells with Reid. She was grateful for the hospitality he had extended to her family but also relieved that the vacation had come to an end. She would miss Reid as she had become used to seeing him daily, but she felt relieved for the time away which would help her put some order in her thoughts and feelings.

With their goodbyes exchanged, Bella, her family, and Reid parted ways, each returning to their respective worlds. As they boarded the private plane that would carry them back to the United States, the memories of their luxurious vacation in Greece lingered, leaving them with a mixture of emotions that would shape their lives in unexpected ways.
