Chapter Fifty

Chapter Fifty

I was heaving and vomiting in the toilet. Nel was holding my hair. Last few days since Shirley left, I was having frequent morning sickness. In the chaos of my life, I almost forgot about my pregnancy, but since the last time I was reminded of my condition, this situation had become way more common. It was as if my body suddenly remembered my condition and was acting on it.

"Easy."

"Easy."

"That's it. Let it all out."

Nel was soothing me while sitting beside me. He was rubbing circles on my back with his other hand that was not holding my hair, which might have helped in my vomiting. When I felt that I had thrown out everything that my stomach contained and there was nothing left other than some heaving, I pushed myself back and sat down on the ground.

Hands on the ground, I could feel the coldness creeping up on me. It was refreshing and it helped me focus. I took breaths for a whole minute with my eyes closed before I finally opened them. Nel was already looking at me.

"You should take a day off." Nel suggested once again. I shook my head at him. He suggested that I take my day off every time I get even a little bit hazy. It was ridiculous. This sickness was going to be a part of my life for a long time. I could not possibly take leave every time. Not to mention, he had already done so much in the past few days.

The day he got to know that I was pregnant, surprisingly he did not judge me. At all. In fact, instead of acting all awkward and weird he told me that I should not lift heavy stuff anymore and was forbidden to do so, but also he booked a check-up in the nearby clinic and forced me to go for a check-up. Of course, he went with me but it was still weird.

When I asked him why he was so chill and calm with the situation he told me that his sister's friend was also pregnant at my age. Since she was practically a family member, he and his whole family helped her through that phase. Especially because her parents were not with her.

Hearing this, I almost felt bad for ever hiding this secret from him but then I told myself that I was just protecting myself. I was vulnerable and trying to protect myself from any harm that might have come my way. Especially, being burned once by trusting the wrong guy.

Since Shirley left, Nel had tried to do everything that might have been hard for me. It had not been that long but for some reason, I had started trusting Nel. Even though I told myself not to. Trusting someone too easily had been the bad news for me, but for some reason when it came to Nel the trust came easily to me. He gave off the vibes of a peaceful, Christmas-home-like feeling. Maybe I was repeating my mistake and falling for another trap but I just can't help myself. Perhaps knowing that Shirley knew about him and not giving any hint that she found something off about him, gave me a sense of reassurance. However, I could not be sure.

"Not." I told him and let out a giggle. "If you knew how many times you told me to take a day off, you would be shocked." I told him.

Nel frowned at me while a smile slipped his lips. "You should appreciate my effort. I'm trying to take care of you." He said, settling beside me.

I looked at the sealing. "Did you ask the owner about my idea? To advertise this place?" I asked him.

"They are currently unreachable. But, I think they will like your idea. I mean why would they not want to have more customers?" He asked. I nodded.

"True." I said.

The knocking on the door startled both of us. We both looked at each other.

"Looks like we have a customer." Nel said, standing up. He extended his hand.

"Yeah. Time to go to work." I said, taking him to stand up. "I'll wash my hands and be outside in just a minute," I told him. He nodded his head and went to aid our customer. While I washed my hands, cleaned my face and dried it before making it outside.

Where I saw my teacher standing in the doorway.

"Viri." He said, as soon as he saw me. He was carrying a black bag and was wearing his casual clothes.

"Professor." I said as a greeting, realising what Shirley told me the day she stopped by. That our class teacher had agreed to teach me by phone and in person. Still, I was not expecting myself.

"How have you been? Your brother ..." Professor glanced at Nel before looking back at me.

Nel saw my face once and left us both alone.

I guided the Professor to an empty room before I gestured for him to sit down.

"Would you like some water?" I asked him, and he smiled and nodded his head.

"Yes, sure." He answered right away. The heat outside ...

"Coming right up." I told him. Unconsciously, using my waitress tone. Even before I could take a step to go outside and look for anything, Nel entered the room with two glasses of water and with some snacks.

"Here." He said to me, Handing me the tray before turning to my teacher.

"Hello, Sir. My name is Nelson. I work with Viri here." He told him.

Professor nodded his head, as I placed the tray on the table. "And I'm Viri's class teacher. I'm here to teach Viri." He told Nel.

Nel gave a half smile before backing away. "You can teach her in comfort. If you want anything, just ask." He told him before he closed the door and walked out with a look in my direction.

I sat down right across the table in front of the Professor. Taking his notes out, he said. "I know everything. Your friend told me. Although I can't interfere in this matter I can certainly help you with your studies."

"It's more than enough, Sir. That's the only help I need." I answered him back. And without wasting any time, he pulled out his notes and asked me where I left them. And with that, my lecture began.

When we finally finished and Professor left, I returned to the kitchen where Nel was working. Watching me walk in, he stopped doing the dishes and turned to face me.

"From now on, you will set a time for your studies and only focus on them. If you get left behind then it won't be good." He instructed.

I was about to whine and protest when he stopped me with his hand. "There's no changing it anymore. And yet, during your time for studying, you are not allowed to help me or around the house. No matter what. It's settled."

And settled it was.
