Denise woke up to a strange environment as she opened her eyes,
“You are awake” a voice said from beside her.
“How long have I been out?” She asked him.
“Three days” he said.
Denise checked her body and she found find no injury on it, she touched her neck and there was no sign that she had been slashed in the neck. She wondered if she was actually dreaming.
“Is this a dream?” She asked him as he stared at her questionably, he pinched her waist and she flinched in pain.
“This is not a dream” he said as she nodded her head realizing it.
“What do you remember?” He asked seeing that she looked a bit lost and confused.
“I remember being chased by Cabello because he tried to kill me and I ran to you for help, after that I don’t remember anything” she said.
Lucian looked at her and sighed, Ofcourse she wouldn’t remember anything about that because that was when she was killed. She almost not herself when he rushed to the hospital and her eyes were closed when he fought and killed Cabello.
“That was a dream right, Uncle Cabello wouldn’t try to kill me?” She asked Lucian hoping it was just a nightmare that she had of him but his response said otherwise.
“It wasn’t a dream, Cabello did try to kill you and he almost succeeded” He told her truthfully as her hand went numb falling to her side.
“It was real” she asked herself shocked about it. It was just as Lucian had predicted, he had warned her that Cabello was capable of harming her yet she wouldn’t believe him because she trusted Cabello as her only family.
“Where is he right now?” She asked him.
“Was I supposed to set him free after he tried to kill you, he is dead. I killed him” Lucian said pissed of that she still cared about Cabello after what he did to her. She didn’t care to ask him how he coped the three days that she was in a coma, how terrified he was thinking that she might never wake up but still had to exercise patience and trust the moon goddess.
He got up from his seat walking out in anger when she hugged him from behind him.
“I am so sorry” she said resting on his back, he turned towards her and raised her head up.
“You are sorry for what?” He asked if she was just apologizing because he was angry.
“I am sorry for not believing you, for doubting the warnings you gave me” she stated.
Denise could never forget how Lucian had warned her about Cabello but yet she wouldn’t believe him and got mad at him for saying the truth. They even got into a big fight all because of that.
“I wished I had listened to you in the first place then all these wouldn’t have happened, I wish I had followed you back to your pack” she cried on him.
She felt so regretful that she didn’t listen to him neither did she heed to a word he said. She blamed herself for all of that, if she hadn’t followed Cabello then none of that would happened. If she had been told that things would turn out that way then she wouldn’t have left Lucian and followed Cabello and despite her following him, she was warned by Lucian about him giving her a chance but she turned a blind eye to it because she was more concerned about her family.
Her reason to stay loyal and obedient to Cabello was because he was the only family that she had but yet that same family she thought she could trust stabbed her in the back when she least expected.
“It’s okay, everything is fine now. You are safe with me and I won’t let anyone harm you” he answered hugging her tightly. Seeing that she was sorry for not believing him, he didn’t want to be the one to judge her and make her feel bad.
“Please forgive me Lucian, I will listen to anything you tell me from now on” she said and he wiped her tears.
“I can never stay mad at you, it is not your fault that you did not heed to my warning. Cabello was your family and it was okay for you to trust him. I only told you the truth because I wanted you to be careful with him.
I should be the one saying sorry” he said and she raised her brows.
“Why?” She inquired.
“Because after all the nightmares I had I still wasn’t able to save you, you ran to me for help but I let you down. The only reason you are alive is because Cabello’s claws didn’t go to deep. If it did then I would have lost you” he whispered.
Lucian also saw himself as one of the reasons why Denise was killed, when ge saw her drenched in blood seeking for help from him, he Should have reacted immediately to save her but because he fell into a state of shock thinking it wasn’t real, Cabello was able to get to her and slice her neck easily. He had thought what he was seeing was actually a dream and that was why he hesitated but it turned out to be real.
Denise still cried on him feeling sorry for not listening to him.
“It’s all in the past now, you are okay and there is nothing to worry about again” he said to her reminding her they the danger was gone and she was finally safe with him.
“Do you know how eager I waited for you to wake up?” He said giving her head a slight peck.
“I am sorry I took to long to wake up, did I scare you?” She pouted her lips looking at him. Denise could see the love and affection in his eyes just for her. She had once been given a chance to choose either her family or her mate and she choosed her family but here was her mate doing all the best he could to protect despite her leaving him. He even left his pack just so that he could be closer to her. She wondered in her heart if she deserved a mate such as him who put her first in all he did.
“Very much, I thought I was slowly losing you. Each day felt like a day of misery to me having you by my side but yet you couldn’t see me” He expressed his sadness over the days when she was still in the coma.
“I can see you now and I will always see you” she said putting it at the back of her mind to do everything she could to pay him back for the kindness and love he showed her starting by putting him first in all her endeavors.
Lucian smiled at her statement when he heard a rumpling sound that didn’t come from him, they both looked at her stomach as they laughed instinctively.
“Why don’t we have lunch?” He said.
“Great idea” she let out joining him.
