“I am glad you are doing better Shorty,” C. J. calmly said with a wired smile.
“You have a lure in your voice, you know?”
“I am glad I barely sing then.”
“Only when you are sad then?”
“Normally,” he answered sullenly.
“Would you like to talk it through?”
“Why? I just killed monsters, right? I am a monster, right? What is there to be sad about then?”
“Do you believe your self to be one?”
“Never did until last night, well; this morning.”
“What made you think you are this morning?”
“Why do you care? You think I am one, so does that witch, and even Willow.”
“Think about what you said then answer me,” I say before walking across the river to sit next to him. He stayed silent for a while before he looked me in the eyes, that were filled with tears that wanted to be released. A lopped smile appeared on my face as he searched my eyes.
“I ripped them to pieces. Their blood started a craving that would not die until the sun appeared. There is nothing left of them except for a few pieces of bones. How would I not be a monster?”
“Ah, so because you used your strength to fill your need to feed that makes you a monster?”
“Yes.”
“Then am I also a monster?”
“What?”
“I drain my victims that are pure of blood and destroy all that come against me. I even ate a heart last night while the mutt was still alive.” Pausing I look into his eyes to only see questions. “In front of his very eyes before he died.”
“That does sound pretty monstrous.”
“Of course,” I say with a big grin. “Because I am a monster. By the way that heart tasted delicious.” The look of shock flooded his features making a laugh rip from my gut.
“How do you deal with the fact you kill and eat being that look like humans. We eat them raw, to boot!”
“Are you a monster?”
“Yes, at least my design is.”
“Do you hurt man kind?”
“Not yet.”
“Yet?” My left brow rose quickly.
“Well, what if I end up hurting them and eat them?”
“I will put you down like a dog with rabies,” my answer came with a straight face.
“Do you not regret the things you do at night?”
“Why should I be concerned of a doing what comes naturally? I use my abilities to help the whole of the world while I fed my own lust.”
“So? Are you saying what we did last night is alright?”
“No, it is not alright to go around killing beings that are evil.” I sarcastically announce to a drooped face. “I am a necessary evil. C. J. would you rather see people ripped to pieces that have no idea what is going on or why?”
“Of course not.”
“Then why should I care if I eliminate evil monsters that feed on innocent people?”
“Because they are humans too.”
“Wrong they use to be humans but they chose to join the monsters of the dark. If they run loose, like they use to, they will have all of humanity as mere cattle. The old magic never intended to destroy man kind. Man kind have a purpose and we give them the chance to live that. Would you hesitate killing a mass murder who has clearly killed thousands and has no desire to stop?”
“Why could we not just lock him in prison?”
“Because not everyone can be caught and tried. Even some governments kill millions and never get blamed. Others get blamed but released. Could you survive alone in a cell until death brings you home?”
“That is miserable.”
“Now give that sentence to one who never dies on their own. They would live until the earth burns in a room with no chance. Which is the more merciful way?”
“Death that is quick,” C. J.’s eyes became distant as he spoke. To remember a memory of his past he hated.
“We are the great magic’s mercy,” I pause a moment looking him over. “Well, I am at least your just an abomination among abominations.” I start cracking up as he looked at me as if he wanted to rip my head off.
“Geez, thanks for the heart warming talk. Idiot.”
“Look, I will help you became a tool for the greater good, ok?”
“Sure, sure.” Looking into my eyes questions boiled. “Why did you choose this? I mean I was born this way but you were not.”
“They took away my everything.”
“Revenge?”
“Sortie.”
“Sortie?”
“Means revenge. Why I was given my name once I came to be the monster I am now.”
“What was your original name then?”
“Serenity.”
“That is very pretty name.”
“Thanks. Do not let Willow know you know it though. She will throw a fit and pout non stop.”
“Why?”
“She likes being the only one that knows it.”
“Oh, that is fine I rather call you Shorty any how.”
“Idiot,” I spat as I roll my eyes. We sat there in silence for a while before I had to ask. “What did you end up hunting?”
“Vampires.”
“Oh, did they taste good?”
“Like sour candy.”
“That’s about right,” I chuckled out.
“Werewolves is what you hunted?”
“Yeah, there was way more than I thought. But a few got lost in the mix. So, I was wondering if you would like to go hunting tonight with me?” I beamed up at him as if I was a child.
“Sure, Willow thought if I hunted a different kind I would do better for the first night.”
“Dumb dog.”
“What did I do?” C. J. asked snapping his head towards me.
“Willow is. Why would you give a newbie a human shaped monster to hunt first when they view them special. Dumb animal seriously.”
“What would you have chosen?”
“Trolls.”
“Ha. Why not mutts like me?”
“They taste too good to share?”
“Oh so I taste good?”
“No you taste like rotted veggies.”
“WHAT?” C. J. glared at me.
“Huh?” Looking up at him innocently.
“You monster! How would I taste like rotted veggies?”
“Nymphs.”
“Not completely.”
“True…” I ponder a moment. “They are suppose to taste like fruit.”
“You really are a jerk. You know that do you not?”
“I think your name should be brussell sprouts.”
“I am completely done talking to you,” he said turning away to pout.
“Glad you feel better now. Give me two more nights and maybe we can be friends.”
“I thought we are friends!”
“Nope. You are just a tag a long.”
“Jerk!” he yelled before looking back to my eyes. “Why two more nights?”
“Since this is your first full moons, you need to fulfill your feeding on supers to grow the taste. I bet you hated the first bite. The more you eat the more the flavor will be what you desire then I will not have to worry about you lunging at humans.”
“Oh.”
“You hungry?”
“You are joking right?”
“No. I am starving, and we need fuel to get use through tonight.”
“I thought you feed all night?”
“I drank, not ate. Also, you vomited all your food out.”
“You really are disgusting.”
“I am a monster,” I grin widely at the dumb founded face. Getting up slowly, I decide to stretch out before smacking him dead in the middle of his face. I booked off towards the truck before he could react. Before too long I could hear his heavy steps running after me while his mouth kept cursing and cussing at me. Smiling at my self as I thought he was acting more normal again. It is only in our nature any ways so why not just put our nature to help other’s lives to become better.
