The chaotic pieces of the puzzle seemed aligned with each other now. Amber had performed a spell on my mate to sleep with her. I couldn’t imagine that she could stoop this low. I never hated her, I pitied her because I assumed that she was also forced to marry someone who wasn’t her mate.
I was fucking wrong. She didn’t want anyone else. She wanted my mate. Anyhow.
I couldn’t help but laugh at myself inwardly for thinking that I was doing wrong to her, that I was snatching her happiness.
“You’re right, Letty. I’m too shocked to even say something.” Klaus put his elbows on his knees. “I have known her since childhood but never knew that she could do something like this.”
As much as I hated figuring it out, I had to accept the fact. “She wants you,” I uttered in a low voice that was barely audible to me but the way his perplexed gaze stared at me, I got that he had heard me.
“Or maybe worse, she loves you and wants to be with you anyhow,” I blurted out and regretted immediately the way my words sounded.
“But I don’t-” his words remained in his mouth when a loud knock peeled the door. I didn’t have to ask who it was, I could smell Amber’s scent and the way she was banging on the door constantly, I prepared myself to deal with the drama.
Klaus got up from the bed and started getting dressed, and so did I. His eyebrows shot up in annoyance as he walked to me to place a deep kiss on my forehead. “You know, you don’t have to. You belong here. With me. Just like this,” he mumbled the last word in my ear before shredding my top into pieces and I gasped.
Goddess.
This man could be possessive as fuck when he wanted.
I rolled my eyes and tucked the blanket tightly around my chest to cover my naked breasts. He opened the door and stood in front of the door, blocking my view from the person who stood there.
“Do I have to knock to come in my own husband’s room while he’s busy fucking another whore?” Amber barked, crossing her arms across her chest.
If I would have heard these harsh words from her before, I would have gotten hurt and felt that she was right but after knowing about what she did to my mate and assuming her vicious ways to get what she wanted, I had no sympathy or pity left for her.
I got up from the bed, holding the blanket in my fist. Before I could open my sharp mouth, Klaus pinned her against the wall, seizing her neck in his hand.
“I warned you earlier to watch your mouth. I don’t have the habit of forgiving when it comes to my mate,” he uttered in a murderous tone.
“I’m pregnant with your child,” Amber’s words hardly came out of her mouth.
“Leave her alone, Klaus,” I said, penetrating his hands away from her body.
Amber scoffed, “it must feel satisfying to have this control over a big bad Alpha. I find it pathetic how an Alpha can easily be tamed by his mate. It’s derisive to see a werewolf turning into a puppy for his mate.”
“GET OUT BEFORE I KILL YOU,” Klaus’s voice reverberated in the room and the floor slightly shuddered under his loud bellow.
“Why should I leave? This is our room, you’re my husband,” she paused and put her hand on her belly. Her facial expressions turned from rage to tenderness as she continued, “this baby is ours. When will you start taking responsibility for me and our child? When will you accept me as your wife?”
My heart melted as she kept whining about her pain and I felt that I was the reason behind her pain. She could live happily ever after if I didn’t exist. Maybe even Goddess would have given her as a second chance mate to Klaus.
‘You’re too naive. Even after knowing everything, how can you be manipulated by her so effortlessly?’ My subconscious brought me back to reality and as much as I hated to admit that she was right, I couldn’t deny the fact.
Klaus’s face turned void when he looked straight into her eyes. “Never. Amber. Never. You knew that I had a mate and even if I didn’t have a mate, I would have never-”
“Fortunately, he has a mate,” I intervened before my mate spilled the beans Amber could be alert, or worse, she might again cast a spell on him.
‘Don’t let her know that we know about her true identity,’ I sent him a mind-link, sending a silent prayer to the Moon Goddess that it would have started working after our hot mating session.
Layla was indeed right, our mating brought Todd back and I couldn’t wait to snap our memories and know everything about what happened that day but at the same time, I didn’t know if Todd was fine or not.
I nudged his shoulder and stood closely on his side, my hand touching his torso and the sparks raveled in my body.
“You know what, I pitied you, assuming that you were forced to marry someone who wasn’t your mate but the way you’re acting now, makes me feel nothing for you,” I continued with grace and confidence. “Perhaps it was my fault to assume that you’ll want to live with your own mate but let me you in on a little secret,” I leaned closer to her ear and whispered in her ear, “it’s pure bliss when you find your mate, when he accepts you however you’re, when he marks you, when he loves you as if you’re his whole world and for him, nothing matters the most than you because you’re his mate.”
“That’s the power of the mate bond which Goddess has created and fortunately, I was blessed with the best mate I could ever ask for,” I said whilst looking affectionately into Klaus’s eyes, remembering our memories together.
Amber raised her hand to slap me but I effortlessly blocked her hand without hurting her. For Goodness sake, I was the Warrior trainer. How could she think of attacking me?
She might have the Alpha blood in her veins but I had it in me to fight back. Not giving up.
“It’s easier to bluff about all this when you’re snatching someone else’s husband,” she spat with venom in her voice. “If I would have been in your place, I would have left this pack because I could never live with the title of a whore.”
I smirked at her cunning move to manipulate me again. She didn’t know whom she was messing with.
“And if I would have been in your place, I would have never called someone else mine when he belonged to his mate.” I let go of her hand and Klaus pulled me closer to his chest by grasping my waist. “I can’t even hate you, Amber. You haven’t experienced the pull and affection of the mate bond so how would you know that you don’t have to fight to be loved by your mate?”
I wish I could tell her that mates didn’t have to cast a spell on their mate to make them fall in love with them or just fuck with them but I wasn’t sure of how she would respond if she would know that we have tracked down her true identity.
“I don’t believe in this nonsense of mate bond. And even if there’s a mate bond, I’ll make sure to end it. You’re sleeping with my husband and mark my words, I’ll make you pay for that,” Amber threatened me and for a millisecond, her eyes turned red from icy blue.
My eyes narrowed at her but she turned her face to the wall before I could notice anything further.
"Your beliefs don't matter. It's the Moon Goddess's blessing and you can't do anything with that. No one can break our mate bond," my mate asserted, challenging her.
Amber’s lips broke into a wicked smile. "Isn't the mate bond all about the werewolves’ wolf counterpart? The Black Moonstone pack’s Alpha can’t shift into his wolf part anymore, can he?”
Her words bamboozled me, she had kept her identity a secret. Why would she want to reveal it to us now?
Everyone was aware of the fact that witches were prohibited in the werewolves’ territory. Didn’t she fear the outcome of her moves?
“Did you think that your wolf could be tamed by just your mate, dear husband?” She traced the jawline of Klaus’s cheek with her finger. “I’m used to getting everything I want. By hook or crook. Todd was under my spell till now and no one can bring him out of my spell except me.”
I felt scared of her for the first time as she spoke like an evil witch though I tried to put on a void face.
“So you really are a witch,” Klaus whispered. “And by admitting that, you must leave this territory right now. Witches are prohibited in the werewolves’ territory.”
“Oh, my poor husband. It took you a bit longer to know my secret. You’re right. I’m a witch but who will reveal my secret to the other Alphas? You?” She chuckled, her voice was getting on my nerves.
I had to know her purpose behind telling us the truth. If she had kept this secret for so long, there must be a groundbreaking reason for confessing the truth now.
