Klaus
The girl standing in front of me seemed a stranger to me, the little girl with whom I had a few childhood memories was not her.
I always had empathy for her. I had presumed that we both were on the same boat, we both needed a solution to come out of that bullshit of betrothal but I was so fucking wrong.
“Cut to the chase and say what you have in your cunning mind,” I uttered through my gritted teeth, balling my palms into fists.
“You, my darling. You’re my childhood love. I want only you,” Amber’s eyes flickered to Scarlett’s who had put on a face void of any emotion. “You’re mine and I don’t like to share what’s mine.”
Scarlett let out a deep sigh. “If you wouldn’t have been pregnant, I would have shown you no mercy for even imagining that my mate is yours and you can get him with your vicious witch powers.”
“Witch?” Jenna’s voice drew everyone’s attention and we saw her standing at the door. She had overheard our conversation but Amber had no trace of worry on her face. She had a strange dread calm on her face before her lips broke into a smirk.
She stared into Jenna’s eyes and whispered, “I’m feeling sleepy.” She closed her eyes for a second and her eyes were blood red when she pressed her both hands toward Jenna’s way.
“I’m feeling sleepy,” Jenna repeated after her, holding her head in her hands.
“Jenna,” Letty walked to her to help her stand still. “Hold her,” my mate told me before putting on my sweatshirt and taking Jenna to her room.
“What the fuck you just did to my sister?” I shouted in anger, my blood was boiling after seeing her audacious attempt to hurt my sister.
“Chill, babe. She heard what she shouldn’t have so I just erased that from her memory and now, she’ll have a good sleep.” Amber depicted her actions like a child's play.
“You’re manipulating my family members’ memories. I won’t tolerate this, leave my house right now or else-”
“Or else what, hubby?” She chimed in. “You’ll tell everyone that I’m a witch and then, the stupid werewolves will kick me out of all the packs’ territory, huh?”
“I’m the Alpha King’s daughter and before you’ll reveal this secret in front of the other packs, he’ll tarnish your pack. There will be no one left alive to tell what happened to your pack, let alone reveal my truth,” she playfully poked a finger into my chest, pouting her lips.
“How can you stoop so low? What happened to the little girl who never used to harm even an insect?” I shook my head in dismay. “I mistook you for my childhood friend. You’re nothing to me.”
Her bottom lip quivered for a second before she pursed her lips. “I never wanted to be your friend. The little girl whom you knew fell in love with someone who never loved her but she did everything for love.”
“This is not love, Amber. This is madness. A fucking obsession over someone whom you’ll never have,” I freaked out and punched the wall next to me.
She jumped in her place and an audible gasp escaped from her mouth. “You… You don’t know my love and trust me, Klaus, I love you and I’ll get you. Everything is fair in love and war. I’ll go to war to have you or even worse, I’ll kill your mate to have you.”
“Don’t you fucking dare to touch her,” I growled and choked her breath through my hands. “If anything happens to my mate, I’ll make sure to give you the most painful and torturous death.”
“You’ll lose her either way,” she struggled to get rid of my hold on her neck.
Her words triggered some senses in me and I let go of her.
‘Todd,’ I tried mind-linking my wolf to know the truth but when I felt seclusion in my mind, I realized the meaning behind her words.
“Todd isn’t responding?” Amber smirked. “How can he when he’s under my spell?”
“You’ll regret all of this one day,” I promised her and started walking away.
“If you didn’t reject your mate before this full moon, you’ll lose your wolf and live the life of an ordinary human which means your mate bond with Scarlett will also end as there can’t be a mate bond without the wolf and then, we’ll live happily away from all this mate bond bullshit,” her words made me halt in my steps.
I turned to face her and tell her the last truth that she had to hear. “You were right, I never loved you but I never hated you before. I had respect for you in my heart but today, you lost it. I loathe you from every ounce of my heart. You have stooped so low that I can’t even recognize you anymore.”
As much as I was hurt losing a friend and seeing her becoming someone else, I had to accept the fact that she no longer was a friend. The Amber with whom I grew up didn’t exist anymore.
The woman who had seized my wolf under her spell was dangerous and could go to any extent to get what she wanted but I couldn’t give in to her vicious ways that easily. There had to be a way to free my wolf from her spell and save my mate bond with Scarlett.
I didn’t fear Amber’s threats but I had to make sure that my mate was safe. I couldn’t afford to lose her. I opened the door to Jenna’s room and saw my sister sleeping peacefully in Letty’s lap.
Scarlett offered me a small smile and put a head under Jenna’s head before getting up from the bed.
“Letty,” I engulfed her in a long overdue hug. Seeing Letty caring for my sister made me fall for her more. Even in this situation, she didn’t lose her patience and prioritized Jenna over herself.
If there would have been any other girl, she would have made a fuss about it and fought with Amber but my mate wasn’t like the other girls. Letty maturely handled the situation, even better than me.
The Moon Goddess has blessed me with the most benevolent and loving mate and I’ll do anything to keep her in my life. I’ll fight for her till my last breath. I’ll not give up on her. I’ll not give up on us.
“From now on, you’ll not go anywhere alone. Marcus will be always with you as your guard,” I embarked on my instructions. “You have to protect yourself for me. Are you getting it?”
“I hope you will keep your jealousy at bay if Marcus is gonna be my guard,” she mocked, suppressing a chuckle.
I hated Marcus’s proximity to my mate but when it came to her safety, I trusted him only. He would never deceive me.
“I’ll have to deal with that for a while until I get a solution to save Todd,” said I as I prepared myself for leaving her with Marcus. I had already informed him to patrol outside Jenna’s room and instructed him to guard my mate all the time and not leave her alone at any cost until I return.
I knew what I had to do now and to whom I could ask for help. Grabbing the keys to my car, I drove to Asher’s house. The pack doctor had to know something to save my wolf and our sacred mate bond with Letty.
“Asher,” I nodded my head at him when he welcomed me into his home along with his mate.
“What brings the Alpha here?” He came directly to the point and that’s what I liked about this man.
“I’m not able to shift or reach out to Todd. He's been under a witch’s spell since the last full moon and I don’t have much time to save my wolf and my mate bond so please, tell me how I can get Todd back,” I filled him in on all the information.
His brows shot up as he calmly heard me. “How’s that possible? We don’t have any witch in our pack.”
“That’s not the point, Asher. There is one but I can’t reveal the name yet. I have so much on stake for now so please, help me,” I practically begged him. I wouldn’t have done that if it would have been just about me.
It was about my mate and I would even go on my knees if it could save her. I had to keep all my Alpha attitude on the side to protect my mate bond with Scarlett.
“A witch’s spell can’t be broken by anyone else but the one who cast that spell. We’ll somehow have to persuade that witch to break the spell,” he advised, narrowing his eyes.
“That’s impossible. There has to be another way,” I growled in frustration.
Asher sighed helplessly. “Scarlett’s wolf can reach out to Todd and bring him back. The mate bond has more power than the witch’s spells if you’re marked and mated mates.”
My mate was a lantern, she hasn’t shifted yet so her wolf couldn’t reach out to Todd.
I raised my eyebrows, asking for any other solution but Asher shook his head in denial.
