Chapter Sword

Klaus

“They are waiting for you,” Marcus informed me, keeping his head down.

His face was the last thing I wanted to see right now, he reminded me of how foolish it was of me to trust him to protect my mate at such a crucial time.

“Leave before I kill you,” I muttered in a cold voice before replenishing my glass of whiskey and throwing it down my throat.

“At the moment, I couldn’t care less about what you want to do with me. I just care about Letty and she’s abducted by Alex and Harold so we must do as they say,” he dared to reason with me after all that happened.

“Thanks to you, Marcus. My mate is not with me but a captive of my enemies,” I said bitterly, reminding him of his own mistake. “When I had specifically told you not to let Letty be near Amber, why the fuck did you let her go in her room?”

“It seems like I have to personally come to talk to my son-in-law,” the Alpha King, Harold, said in a deep voice which irritated me to my core.

Letting out a deep breath, I calmed myself down. I had to remain in control, he had my mate and I couldn’t afford to lose her at any cost.

“Welcome, Alpha King,” I nodded my head in acknowledgment and turned my head to offer a tight-lipped smile to his bastard son who had an annoying smirk plastered on his face. I had to fight the urge to beat the crap out of his shitty face.

“Dad,” Amber rushed into my room with a smile. “Oh, you have really come.”

She was astonished and happy at the same time to see her father.

Bitch.

It had been two days since my mate was under their captivity. I had begged her to meet me and talk to me but she denied to meet me and now, she had shown me her filthy face.

Her eyes lightened up after seeing her father and she immediately lunged forward and clung to his body as she used to when he would come to pick him up after our playtime at the parties.

“You’re a grown-up now,” Harold scolded her and quickly pulled her away. “Can’t you be a little mature now? You’re pregnant for goddess’s sake.”

The color drained off her face and as soon as her eyes met mine, all the excitement and joy were replaced with guilt.

‘I have tracked her scent around the pack borders with the help of the warriors but I can’t find her scent anywhere,’ Jenna’s voice rang in my mind-link.

Amber had strangely freed Todd from her spell without me asking for it which stunned me. For the last two days, I kept looking for Scarlett everywhere in the pack but I couldn’t find her.

My sister had studied medicine and was working on becoming the pack doctor so she had some tricks under her sleeves to differentiate the scents and track them down. She was working on it and I had a little hope for her but now, I was hopeless.

How did they manage to abduct her without leaving any scent on the way?

‘How’s that possible?’ I retorted back to her.

‘Perhaps we underestimated Amber’s power,’ was Jenny’s short and witty reply.

Fuck it.

I was so fucking done with playing dumb when all I wanted to do was rip everyone presented in the room’s heart out.

“Where is my mate?” A slow growl erupted from my chest, Todd was all ready to take over and give them what they deserved.

“She’s alive,” Amber’s brother babbled nefariously, “or should I say that she’ll be as long as you keep your fucking mouth shut?”

Marcus jumped in, “should we take it as a threat to keep our mouth zipped about the witch whom Alpha King raised and married off to another Alpha in the name of betrothal?”

“You can twist the words and do whatever you want with them. All I know is you can’t risk your mate’s life, can you?” Harold’s lips twitched into a devilish grin.

I couldn’t just sit cowardly and do as he says, I would go to war if that’s what would save my mate.

“My men are waiting for my order to deliver the news about your daughter’s secret on the border of every pack’s territory,” I looked into the Alpha King’s eyes dauntlessly. “One signal from me and my men will spread the news like wildfire which will burn your house for sure.”

Alex grabbed my collar and raised his hand to punch me but Amber caught him off guard and pushed him away from me.

“You, son of a bitch,” he swore, shooting daggers at me.

I could see Harold’s jaw clenching and the slow breaths he was taking to calm his nerves down.

“You wouldn’t dare to perform such an absurd act while risking your mate’s life,” he muttered in a low yet authoritative voice.

Gulping the leftover drink, I smirked whilst gaping at him over the rim of my glass. “I have faith in my mate, she can easily protect herself.” I wasn’t just blustering, I meant it.

Scarlett had a powerful body though she hadn’t shifted yet and her prudent moves and skills were unparalleled. She was the daughter of the Gamma and my pack warrior, she had it in her blood to fight against the odds and protect the others including herself.

Though I was worried about her safety and had asked Marcus to guard her, I knew that she was capable of protecting herself. I was concerned about her safety but the reason behind my frustration and riled-up attitude was the separation from my mate.

“We’re fated mates. If you kill her, I’ll also be dead. Our souls are bound to each other, we were meant to be together so I suggest you give me my mate back and take Amber back to your pack. I’ll keep your daughter’s identity a secret forever,” I explained my plan tactfully, anticipating Harold’s objection.

He wouldn’t give in that easily and neither would I.

“If I wanted to keep my daughter in my pack, I wouldn’t have married her off,” he remarked haughtily in a frosty tone. “Now, listen to my offer, boy. Your territory is surrounded by my men and they’ll havoc your whole pack. No one will even remember that your pack existed.”

‘You shouldn’t have revealed your plan to them,’ Marcus mind-linked me. ‘I’m sneaking out. Make sure that you come out of this room alive.’

‘How will you alone manage to fight off his men?’ I asked him back.

‘I’ve linked all of our warriors and Gamma to make haste toward the borders while Jenna will lead the women and children toward the warehouse beside the forbidden pond,’ Marcus explained everything to me while sneaking out from the window.

‘That pond is forbidden for the werewolves to enter,’ I contradicted. ‘Make sure that everyone stays safe whilst I reach there.’

The warehouse beside the pond was the only safe option because Alpha King knew all the places in our pack so our pack wasn’t safe anywhere except that warehouse which no one knew about.

“You’ll do no such thing, father,’ Amber stood in between Harold and me. “He hasn’t harmed me or anyone in your pack so he doesn’t deserve this.”

“Don’t you have any shame, Amber? I’m fighting here so you can get a place in our world to live safely,” Harold barked at her.

Alex stepped forward to snatch her away but she chanted something and the next thing I saw was Alex collapsing into the front wall.

“Have you gone insane, Amber?” Harold’s eyes turned golden, his wolf threatening to take over.

Amber’s hair started wafting with the air as the red aura excreted from her body. The air swiveled around her body like a storm.

“Yes, I’m insane. My whole life, I tried so hard to get your validation to even exist but he didn’t look down upon me just because I was a witch. Klaus didn’t hate me for who I’m but rather for who you had turned me into,” she cried in a high-pitched voice. I never knew that she was growing up with such pain in her heart. She always had that proper smile and jolly attitude that she carried.

“You’re not thinking rationally, sweetie,” Alex roared at her.

She sighed before opening her mouth, “rest assured, Alex. I never wanted to be heir to the father’s throne. I just wished you would have treated me as your sister, not a threat to your claim that you just wanted to marry her off.”

“It’s our pack’s rule that we keep our word. We don’t break the promises,” Alex protested dramatically.

“I won’t buy that excuse, brother. Surely, everyone chooses their own reasons above me every fucking time.”

As they accused each other and fought, I grabbed this opportunity to flee and joined Marcus on the battlefield after shifting into my wolf part.

The Alpha King’s men were hidden in safe places and hadn’t attacked my pack members yet so they were not prepared when my men attacked them and ripped their throats out.

Todd was riled up, our mate was not with us and they had dared to attack my people so he turned all his wrath into his weapon and annihilated our enemies. My father and grandfather fought along with me by my side, maybe they had expected this to happen sooner or later since the moment they got to know about who Amber was.

I was grateful that they didn’t force me to accept whatever the Alpha King offered. On the contrary, they supported my decision this time.

‘You should go and look for Letty. We’ll handle this,’ Marcus suggested in an open mind-link to which everyone agreed.

The chocolate and berry scent of my mate hit my nostrils and I turned to see her sprinting toward me. A wave of relief washed over me but it didn’t last long as someone drew a sword right through my heart from my back.

“Klaus,” Scarlett’s loud shriek shook the ground. My knees gave in and I collapsed on the floor, my hands hanging loosely on my sides.
