Chapter Wolfdicine

Scarlett

My life had more mystery than novels. One after one, I seemed to have revealed another secret of my life in front of me and I was too astounded to respond to it.

Half of me was happy to know that my real mother was alive but half of me was feeling neglected and deceived. Why wasn’t I allowed to know about my life till now?

Why did I have to go through this alone?

Couldn’t she tell me that I was her daughter when she kept pretending to be the pack doctor all the years long?

The way she shifted in her Lycan form left all the pack members dumbstruck and the terror was evident on their faces. I wanted to follow her and fight alongside her but my instincts told me otherwise.

The animalistic voice calling out my mother’s name still echoed in my mind, making my hands tremble a bit. If my mom had kept me away from herself and hid my true identity, there must be a solid reason behind that and I shouldn’t let my mother’s sacrifice go in vain. I should trust her.

“Luna,” a boy tugged on my dress as I stood up to leave. The hope levitated in his little blue orbs. “Will you fight those bad guys and protect us?”

He seemed hardly five years old but the way he called me Luna, something in me stirred and my stomach twisted but it wasn’t due to fear.

I picked him up in my arms and kissed his cheeks, patting his hair. “I’m your Warrior trainer so I’m supposed to fight all the bad guys off. Are you feeling scared?”

He shook his head as no, his lips breaking into a wide grin. “Why should I fear when Luna is here to protect us? I’m feeling hungry.”

Everyone’s gaze was fixated on us. His faith in me made me feel so relieved and ecstatic even in that predicament. I looked at Jenna in anticipation but she suppressed her lips guiltily.

“All of us left in such a hurry that nobody packed any food with us,” Jenna explained, which was acceptable since nobody was aware of the war ahead.

“It’s okay, Luna. I can stay without food today,” he maturely said and I was surprised to see his understanding at such a young age. “Mommy says that the Moon Goddess is punishing us for treating you wrong. I’m sorry, Luna. I’ll take care of you from now on. Can you please tell the Moon Goddess to stop the war? I’m not liking it here,” he pouted and my heart melted at his words.

I pulled him to my chest and rubbed my hand back and forth on his back. “Your mommy is so lucky to have you, honey. Take care of your mommy whilst I fight those bad boys, okay?”

“Okay, Luna,” he sweetly nodded his head at me and I let him go back to his mom who had a melancholic smile on her face which I reciprocated with a warm one.

“Where will you go, Scarlett?” Jenna asked, her voice laced with concern and agitation.

“Where I belong. To the battlefield,” I firmly replied, assuring her.

“But your mom told you to run,” she protested.

“My mate needs me. I can’t turn my back on him and his pack,” said I, wrapping my arms around her back. “Take care of everyone till we return.”

I threw a last glance at the pack members before running toward the pack borders. The metallic smell of blood hit my nostrils as I neared the pack borders. I could see the wolves fighting from a distance and a giant black wolf mercilessly killing every wolf who came in his way whilst he moved forward.

There he was.

My Alpha.

My mate.

Combating the vicious creatures. The fury, dominance, and power rolled off him. The wolves who came forth to fight with him had horrified looks on their snouts.

A few strides more and I would be there, to fight alongside my mate. Though it was the war, I felt a bit better after seeing Todd. I felt a bit relaxed after seeing him finally shift.

He abruptly turned and our eyes locked with each other for a split second before a loud scream escaped from my lips and my heart was hit by a strong wave of pain, “Klaus.”

Todd’s knees bent as he collapsed on the ground and Harold’s body became visible to me. He stood there with a sword in his hand which he had put right through my mate’s heart.

I was feeling excruciating pain in my heart as well, my legs stopped carrying me closer to Klaus. Suddenly, the pain in my heart expanded throughout my whole body and every cell of my body started burning with outrage.

My hands started shivering due to fury, and all of my pain started replacing with anger and a strange strength. The calm evening soon started turning into thunderous weather. The clear sky got surrounded by dark clouds and the cool breeze began to take the form of a whirlwind.

A bright bolt of lightning struck the sky, illuminating the dark clouds above. Everyone had stopped fighting as the thunder started and made it hard for them to stand still.

“Aah,” a deafening high-pitch cry left my mouth as the pain in my bones and joints returned and I could feel my bones snapping and cracking as they reshaped, tearing my attire and undergarments. My muscles bulged and rippled as my skin started being covered with a thick silver furry coat.

Every inch of my body was on fire, the pain was mixed with a foreign strength. My fingers elongated and turned into sharp claws that could tear anything apart. My spine arched, twisting and broadening until I was no longer human.

My teeth started turning into fangs and I curled my claws, looking toward the full moon in the sky. I let out a deep long and painful howl erupt from my chest as I finished my transformation.

I was standing on my hind feet, not on the paws which meant I was indeed a Lycan.

The tears rolled down my snout along with the eerie growls. My body still carried the pain my mate was suffering from and the urge to rip apart every limb of the person who was the reason behind this pain was irresistible.

Howling at the full moon for the last time, I growled thunderously and the clouds rumbled loudly. I leaped in the air and caught Harold off guard. His eyes widened in fear as I pounced on him, he tried to retrieve the sword back from the floor but I grabbed his throat and lifted him in the air.

He thrashed around my grip, struggling to get his way out of my grasp. “Leave…,” he muttered which enraged me more and I doubled the pressure on his pipeline.

“How dare you hurt my mate?” My voice came out as an animalistic one which sounded more like thunder.

“Klaus’s body is turning blue. This bastard has used a silver sword,” Marcus’s voice fell in my ears and I lost my focus on Harold which resulted in earning a punch in my guts from him.

Before I could get back to him, he had already gotten his sword back in his filthy hands.

“You bitch. You shouldn’t have been born,” Harold spat at me with a hateful voice. “Because of you, I have to erase the mark of this pack.”

As he lifted his hand to strike me, he bounced in the air and fell a few feet away from me. I turned my gaze to find Amber standing there.

“I won’t let that happen, father. This pack gave me nothing but love which I never received from my family,” she yelled at him with a hint of pain.

“Will you kill your own father to save this pathetic husband of yours who doesn’t even love you?” Harold shouted back at her.

Amber faced me with guilty eyes and uttered, “treat him with the wolfdicine and your blood. He shall open his eyes within five hours.”

When I trusted her for the first time, I got abducted. And now, again, she was trying to protect me and my mate but my heart was skeptical about whether I should trust her again or not.

“I have got this, Scarlett. Please, trust me and leave before Alex comes here,” she pleaded while moving her hands and an invisible power held Harold in his place, making him unable to move.

Marcus was pressing Klaus’s heart and he coughed the blue blood knots. His father and grandfather were cleaning all the blood off his chest.

I had to make a choice.

Either kill the person who hurt my mate or save my mate.

I opted for the latter option and picked Klaus up in my arms in my Lycan form. His body seemed weightless as he had shifted back to his human form the moment that bastard thwacked him.

“If anything happened to my mate, I’ll end your whole clan,” I threatened Amber in my animalistic voice.

“Take him to my house,” Asher suggested, going haywire. “We have all the herbs and wolfdicine there to treat him.”
