Chapter Stupor

Klaus

“Hold her, Marcus. She needs to stay conscious,” Asher’s hurried voice rang in my ears as I slowly gained consciousness back.

“The wound is deep. It’ll take at least a week to heal completely,” he said, dressing the wound on my chest.

“It’s been four hours already. When will he open his eyes, Asher?” Scarlett asked in a hushed tone.

“Amber had said that he’ll have to wake up within five hours,” my father stated to which Asher sighed.

“If he didn’t wake up in the next hour, he might go into a coma and for how long, I don’t even know myself. Harold didn’t use only silver, he used Wolfsbane coated sword and as an antibiotic, I have given him Wolfdicine which takes two hours to work but his body is neither showing any sign of adoption of the antibiotic nor Scarlett’s blood sacrifice,” Asher explained everything which I could easily hear but I couldn’t respond to it.

My body was unable to move, it seemed like I was paralyzed. My whole body was under scorching heat, every ounce of my body was burning hotter than hell. The intense pain in my heart was still adamant there.

“Stop the blood, Scarlett. You have just shifted, you’ll need the strength now. It’s not healing him this time,” Asher helplessly informed my mate.

The droplets of her blood on my heart felt like hot lava and as it mixed with my blood, the wounded part of my heart seemed to be healing.

“But I can see the bruises healing. It has to heal him, I can’t lose Klaus,” she muttered in a shaking voice and I felt the tension building inside me.

I wanted to wake up for her sake. She would lose her powers because of me.

“Letty, don’t be stubborn,” Marcus scolded her and though jealousy was creeping into my heart, I was grateful to him for stopping her. “Nobody can afford to lose no one. You both are equally important to me and I won’t let you harm yourself this way.”

The next thing I heard was Scarlett’s sobbing and hiccups.

‘Todd, you there?’ I tried to reach him.

‘I was under Amber’s spell so I’m not as powerful as I was and I can’t help you heal this time,’ Todd explained with an exasperated sigh, pouting sadly.

‘When will I be able to move my body, then? I can’t see her like this,’ I questioned back.

‘Amber. She can use her powers to awaken us,’ he retorted.

“I’m sorry, Scarlett. It’s all my fault. If I wouldn’t have been greedy for power and asked for Amber’s hand, none of this would have happened,” my grandfather said with sorrow.

“I don’t care,” Letty screamed out furiously. “I just want my mate alive and fine. I don’t care about your guilt or sorry.”

“It would be better if we leave our Alpha and Luna alone,” Marcus suggested and after a couple of minutes, all I could hear was silence and my mate’s sobbing.

It pained me to hear her crying because of me. I tried harder again to wake up but I couldn’t move my finger, let alone console my mate.

'Please, don't cry, my love,' I tried to reach out to her via mind-link which caused me intense pain in my head before everything went blank.

'I don't have sufficient energy to run the channels in the mind-links. All of my powers are being used in healing our heart,' Todd murmured in a hushed tone.

"You have to wake up, Klaus. You promised me that you'll be with me forever, you won't leave me alone," Scarlett uttered in a low voice, cupping my cheeks and awakening the sparks in my whole body.

"Run away, Scarlett," my father commanded hastily. "The Lycan King has seized your mother as a hostage but she wants you to run away from here. Farther from his reach."

I could feel her hands slipping away from my face and my heart was surrounded by loneliness.

"How can I run away from him when he has my mother?" Her voice turned dangerous.

"You can't win against him alone. He's far more minacious than Harold. Your safety lies in running away, Scarlett. He'll just use Catherine to get to you, he won't leave her alone even if you beg him," my father tried to convince her, explaining everything to her.

"That means he'll just kill both of us either way," my mate reasoned. "Then, I'll choose to avenge my father's death rather than hide around like a coward," her firm voice demanded obedience.

I was completely clueless about who Catherine was. As far as I could recall, I had never heard about her from my father before.

I couldn't help but wonder why the Lycan King would want to kill my mate and her mother.

"I'll do my best to support your decision," my father's submissive voice startled me.

"Can I have a moment alone with my mate before I leave?" she asked and the next thing I heard was the door's cracking sound of opening and closing.

"Klaus, my love, the duty lies ahead of me and I'll have to leave you alone for a while. I didn't know till now that I'm the Lycan Princess, the only daughter of the late Lycan King, Nathaniel, and the Lycan Queen, Catherine. Unfortunately, I got to know about my true identity in a condemnation predicament like today. Though it hurt me too much that my own mother kept living with me as my pack doctor and didn't tell me the truth earlier, I'm glad that I still have her and you have met her, Klaus," she uttered with delight as she mentioned her mother.

"Layla is my mother, Catherine Lockwood, the rightful Lycan Queen," Letty said haughtily. "The current Lycan King is my uncle who killed my father for power and the throne which belongs to me. I never had greed for power but I have to take back what rightfully is mine and take revenge. I can't let him live knowing that he's the culprit who caused my family pain and I had to live my whole life disguised as a Lantern werewolf."

She then kissed my forehead. "I'll come back, my mate. Please, be awake when I return. My every conquest will be in vain if you're not with me. You're the derivation of my courage, I'll fight all the wars and win them for you, my love."

She lingered her lips on mine in a soft yet promising kiss and my cheek burned with her teardrops.

Her life had turned upside down yet instead of kicking up a fuss about it, she was dealing with the situation gracefully like the Queen she was.

The Moon Goddess had blessed me with the best mate I could ever ask for. I was eternally grateful to the Goddess.

Despite all the hardships that our lives threw at her, she shook them off and embraced the pain.

Nonetheless, I still was worried about her. If her uncle had killed the late Lycan King for the throne, he could do anything to protect his claim and kill my mate.

My mate needed me.

She fought for me and protected me. It was my time to protect her and her mother from that bastard.

"Tie his hands and legs and take him to the dungeon," a menacing voice, followed by a few footsteps, and the next thing I heard was my mate's ferocious growl.

"Touch him and you'll die," her animalistic voice could scare anyone but it sounded so hot and sexy to me.

"Princess," the men said in unison, fear evident in their voices.

A loud growl erupted in the room. "I, Scarlett Lockwood, the daughter of the late Lycan King- Nathaniel Lockwood, behest you to leave my mate alone. If you have a slight bit of respect and faith in your late true Lycan King, you shall not dare go against my command," she used her Queen command, and the sound of knees collapsing to the floor made the room alive.

All of them hissed in pain as her command started working, exhibiting her true claim to the throne.

There were some powers that the werewolves and Lycan gained with their birth, marking their true claim to their forefathers' titles.

The Alpha command in the werewolves and the King or Queen command in the Lycans was one of those powers which ran in our blood.

All the people in the realm were bound to get affected by the command. No one could defy it unless they received the command from someone more powerful.

"Princess," everyone hailed in unison.

"This is maddening. The royal families keep fighting within them for power whilst the realm is the one who has to pay for their greed," a man who sounded old remonstrated. "We're compelled to die either by Samuel or you. Either you'll kill him or he'll kill you. The war will happen again and the innocents will lose their lives again. If you win, you'll be our next Lycan Queen and then, his children will take vengeance on you for killing their father in the future, and if you lose, he'll execute our heads for betraying him. No King or Queen thinks about us, they just think about the throne. We just get used by the royals, to fulfill their personal interests. Our lives have no value in their eyes."

His accusations seemed too righteous to avoid. I could feel the tension in the air. I wanted to tell him that Scarlett wasn't one of those rulers who would ever hurt her realm but the stupor I was in seemed pretty tough to break down.
