Chapter Word on the streets

“Lady Aiyisha?...”

“Yes, Yelena… I know what you’re about to ask me already. Yes, it is night time, I’m guessing we can go check on them now. Or isn’t that what you wanted to ask me?” The blonde-haired she wolf mused out loud at her hand maiden’s silent probing, causing the woman’s eyes to brighten in excitement, an action that showed that Aiyisha had been right after all. “It is, my lady,” She responded.

Aiyisha had been observing the maid since dusk, their conversation from earlier repeatedly ringing in her head. Truly, the Alpha’s daughter saw the brunette omega wolf under a whole new light now. The girl had— she had spoken like someone who had Alpha blood running through her veins, but just as quickly, the moment had passed, making Aiyisha wonder if it had truly happened after all or if she was just imagining things.

But what had caught her eye in the last moment was how restless the violet eyed wolf had become as night befell them. She had known it had something to do with the Alpha and Kendra Sullivan, and so she had jumped right into it as soon as the girl had mentioned her name.

“Well, come along then,” Grabbing the key to Killian’s room, the duo existed Aiyisha’s chambers and made the trip down the long corridor that was to take them to the wing where the Alpha’s room was located. Aiyisha had hidden spares in the room for emergency situations like Kendra wanting to back out or some other medically related situation. She was grateful that it hadn’t gotten to them needing to use it after all.

But were they doing okay though?

Three days… well two when you were counting in literal terms, were a long time to lock people up against their will, if you weren’t a kidnapper or anything of that sort. As a matter of fact, Aiyisha felt a little guilty for taking away their freedom like that, but it had had to be done. It wasn’t exactly as if she had been working on her own command as well. Those had been orders from a higher supernatural concerning matters that she had never encountered before in her young life of eight and twenty.

She truly hoped that they were alright.

But whatever the case was— whether they were doing alright or not, they were going to find out soon enough. Aiyisha hoped it was the former and not the latter.

Both lost in their thoughts, the two ladies were startled by the sound of incoming footsteps rapidly heading their way. Aiyisha stopped in her tracks, signalling for her hand maiden to do same. Three guards rounded the corner, and Aiyisha and her maid waited for the three to catch up with them.

“Is everything okay?” The Alpha’s daughter asked, her blue eyes narrowing at the looks of worry etched on the faces of the three male wolves. “Sorry to bother you so late, milady… but we be from the borders.” One of them answered as they all bowed their head slowly in greeting. “There’s word on the streets, milady… General Alaric Macintyre and the Curers have plans to evade Dnakle two days from now.

Oh.

So war was finally here.

True, they had been training non stop for this moment, preparing with their all for this upcoming battle, but truly, Aiyisha had been wishing with all her heart that they never lived to meet this day. For war always came with devastating consequences that the Alpha’s daughter just wished would pass their Town by.

Orphans, widows, widowers, deviants… those were just going to be the icing on the cake. Other situations, much worser were going to spring up as well.

“How credible is this information you’re sharing with me, Murad?” The Alpha’s daughter asked, praying that it would turn out that the news would not carry that much certainty at all, but alas, she was wrong.

“We have managed to smuggle spies into the Curers’ camp, my lady… the information is as credible as can be.” Came another guards reply.

“I see.” Truly, what else was there to say of not for those exact words? She had actively participated in the training sessions with the hopes that she would never have to use any of the skills she had accrued in anything that was not some more training at being a much better fighter, but unfortunately, the fates had other plans.

War was here.

“Come with me.” She got right into business. “We need to go and see the Alpha and let him know the current developments.”

“What about Beta Devin, my Lady?”

“What about him?” She eyed the guard, Murad in annoyance, an action that told the guard to keep mute, but he couldn’t exactly do that now? He was too far gone already.

“I said what about Devin, Murad?” Aiyisha pressed, finding that once the guard had started on the case of the annoying beta, she couldn’t quite let it go until she had given him a piece of her mind.

“I—I just thought that he would have been needed here to assist you with the Alpha so old and unfit for battle, that’s all, my lady.” He bowed his head in shame.

“It’d do you some good to know your place, Murad,” She started casually, breezily. “Take a look around, look at how preparations are ongoing, how even as we speak, people are training in readiness of the upcoming battle. Does it look like we need Devin here in anyway?”

“N—no my lady,”

“Good. Keep that in mind the next time you want to open your mouth at any angle to say the first thing that comes to thought. Come on. Let us go and see the Alpha.” The whole entourage followed her to the Alpha’s throne room, Kendra and Killian momentarily forgotten.

The Alpha, Joffrey von Sterling, was dozing off when the crowd burst into the large, immaculately decorated throne room, the noise causing him to jump up in startlement. Aiyisha’s heart immediately went out to the old wolf like it did wherever she saw him, but just as quickly, it hardened again. He didn’t deserve her pity?

No.

He was but the only one who had placed himself in the condition to be suffering like so, not her. And so he had to deal with the consequences.

Most Alphas retired at a much younger age, passing the title to someone more active enough to carry on with seeking out the interests of the pack, but not him? And all because of what?

All because he wanted a male wolf to run the Dnakle Pack and not her.

As a matter of fact, it truly was a good thing that Devin was not here in these times, gone away on a quest of enlightenment with no chance of coming back anytime soon, for the Alpha’s daughter was pretty sure she would have been betrothed to him by now.

Thankfully he wasn’t.

Also, she had been able to successfully worm her way out of marrying the man her father had decided she was going to marry as well, citing the war as an excuse. Truly, she had thought those arguments were not even going to yield any results, and so you can imagine her surprise when he had agreed to her request. She was grateful to the fates that this time, he had listened to her.

“Father,” She bowed slightly, eyeing the man with whom she shared so much, yet so little in common.

“Ah, Aiyisha…” The old wolf grunted sitting up from slightly relaxed position. “Why are you all here, and so late in the night, nevertheless?”

“Word has reached us father, that General Alaric Macintyre and the Curers plan on invading our town two days from now.”

The old man sat up in alarm, pure, rich fear gracing his features, as he bemoaned, loud and clear for them all to hear, “We’re all doomed! Alas, our end has come.”

“Father,” Aiyisha tried to interrupt. They did not need this kind of negativity in their lives, especially in this moment? As a matter of fact, he as Alpha was supposed to keep the hope going, stoking the fire of positivity and good outcome even in the darkest of despairs and the most bleak of situations. His reaction now was doing just the opposite of that!

“Oh gods, Devin is not even here, and that gamma, Leray is the most useless male wolf I have ever seen in my life, only intelligent book wise but with no experience in anything else, I have no idea why the moon goddess did not make him a bit more like his father instead.” He continued his lamentation, as though his daughter had not called for him in the least. “At least, had Devin been here, together with Silvercrest, we would have had a more assured shot of victory.”

“But father, there is no need for Devin, everything is in place in readiness of the war, you truly do not have to worry about a single thing.” Aiyisha tried to assuage the old wolf’s fears, but all she got for her efforts was a bitter look of contempt.

“Why would I not worry, Aiyisha? You tell me. Indeed, the glory of Dnakle is no more, I am not as strong as I used to be, and the only person who used to give the pack a little hope has gone on some stupid quest that I should not have approved of in the first place. Truly, all hope is lost.”

“You know what, father?” The blonde haired she wolf looked up at the old man, “I look at you now, and all I feel is pity,” She confessed sadly, a chorus of soft gasps leaving the little crowd at her choice of words. “Pity at the wolf you have become, for even though you were not a good father, I could always look at your achievements as Alpha and take pride in that fact. You did not care for me? But you absolutely adored this pack to bits.” She scoffed slightly, “Looking at you now, all I see is a tired old man stuck in his former glory, and completely blind to everything else. Blind to the fact that while you bemoan Devin’s absence, it truly is I who has kept the pack on its feet while you have been stuck in your blissful oblivion. Tell me father, how many times, since we started training have you been to the sparring grounds to see how well our people are doing? There are some things that even your old age cannot excuse, father… and the people have seen that. Over the past week, I’ve had wolves come to me, begging that I simply overthrow you and take over as Alpha. But I am bigger than that, and at the moment, my entire focus is on getting our pack through this war as unharmed and as unscathed as possible. Telling you about the upcoming war was but a mere formality, one you failed to properly react to as usual, and so I will take it from there, like I have already been doing. Do have a good night.” She bowed slightly and then turned to walk out, followed by her entire entourage who could not help but hide their looks of admiration and pride.

A small smirk broke out on the Alpha’s daughter’s lips.

She had finally stood up to her old man.

What a relief that brought to her heart.

The guards left them and headed out to their posts at the palace entrance, leaving the two women to go back to their earlier task of checking up on Kendra and Killian.

Aiyisha and Yelena paused at the huge, study door, trying to listen in for any sign… any noise of sort that would confirm that the two were okay in there, but alas, they got nothing.

“Maybe a knock will do?” Yelena suggested.

“I was getting right to that,” Aiyisha answered, delivering two swift knocks on the wooden door. “Kendra! Killian! Are you two okay in there?”

No response.

“Kendra! Killian! We’re coming in,” There was still no reply, and so with heavy hearts and bated breaths, the Alpha’s daughter turned the key in the lock and the two of them entered the young Alpha’s chamber, but truly, nothing had prepared them for the sight that met their eyes,

The Alpha, and Kendra, on the bare floor, pressed against each other in a tangle of naked limbs as they kissed each other senseless, not even pulling away with all the interruption.

Naturally, the alpha’s daughter and her maid screamed their apologies as they turned their eyes away from the erotic scene, their shrieks rousing the two lovebirds from what was formerly their oblivious bubble. Once they were both decently covered in sheets, Kendra let out a soft giggle, even as Killian lovingly pressed a kiss against her temple, “It is alright, you two can look at us now,”

A sigh of relief left Yelena’s lips as she turned to face them, a horrified look still glued to her face at the scandalous sight she had just witnessed that had Aiyisha and Kendra bursting into laughter.

“It’s good to see that you two have uhm…” Aiyisha shot them a glance, not quite knowing how to describe their progress, “…Resolved your differences, if I can call it that. But we have a serious problem, guys.” She told them, all traces of laughter gone from her face. “War is here, and we’re going to need all the help we can get.”or
