34: Sister's Friend
"I've troubled you for two days in a row, Little Ya." Under the setting sun, the black-haired girl smiled and said to another black-haired girl beside her.
Bai Ya smiled somewhat shyly. "Little Qi, you just transferred here. The teacher asked me to take good care of you—this is what I should do."
On Monday, a transfer student arrived in Bai Ya's class. Since Bai Ya lived relatively close to the transfer student's home, the teacher had entrusted her with the task of looking after the transfer student.
This girl named Su Qi had also given Bai Ya a very good impression during these few days of interaction. Otherwise, Bai Ya wouldn't have invited Su Qi home as a guest.
"Yesterday sister wasn't home, but I don't believe she won't be home today either." Bai Ya said indignantly. She definitely had to introduce Little Qi to her sister and let her sister meet her friend.
Su Qi had both hands in her pockets, somewhat amused by Bai Ya's muttering to herself. "Actually, there's no need to be so urgent, right?"
"Sister always says I don't study well and don't even have friends at school. Now I have a friend—let's see what she can say." Bai Ya was beaming. Her sister's words from a few days ago had made this little girl quite indignant.
See, she had made a good friend now and could thoroughly slap her sister's face.
"Haha, so that's how it is..." Su Qi's expression was a bit strained. This girl Bai Ya was really quite childish.
"Hmph, with a girl as good as Little Qi, sister definitely won't have anything to say. Oh right, after meeting sister, I'll take you to meet Sister Qianqian too." Bai Ya became more excited as she spoke. "Sister Qianqian previously took Sister's side—those two bad people."
While talking, the two had already reached the entrance of the apartment building where Bai Ya lived. Bai Ya took out her key card and swiped it at the door. Accompanied by a crisp 'beep,' the glass door slowly opened.
Taking the elevator to their home on the sixth floor, Bai Ya once again excitedly opened the door.
"Sister, I brought a friend home!" The exact same line as yesterday, but different this time—there was finally someone in the living room.
Bai Ling held the book that Leticia had evaluated as not very useful, carefully reading through it page by page. Hearing her sister's voice, she looked up toward where the sound came from.
"Welcome... Hm?" Bai Ling's eyes narrowed. The girl behind her sister... seemed to be using some kind of appearance-altering magic.
Magic... wasn't this girl human?
Although there were already quite a few non-humans in the human world currently, having a non-human existence around her own sister still surprised Bai Ling somewhat.
"Sister, her name is Su Qi, and she's my new good friend." Bai Ya pulled Su Qi over to Bai Ling and introduced her proudly.
"Mm, Su Qi... Nice to meet you." Bai Ling instinctively closed the book in her hands and placed it face-down on the table. "I didn't expect Little Ya could make such a good friend."
"Sister, what kind of thing is that to say? If I wanted to make friends, there would be tons and tons of them." Bai Ya said confidently. "Sister, please sit here with Little Qi for now. I'm going to prepare dinner."
On the way home, she had already bought some groceries, so today they could eat at home.
"Alright." Bai Ling nodded, then continued staring at Su Qi's face.
This disguise magic was somewhat sophisticated. She might need some time to see through this girl's true appearance.
Su Qi sat somewhat stiffly beside Bai Ling. Bai Ya's sister gave a completely different feeling from Bai Ya.
If Bai Ya was like a babbling brook in the mountains, then Bai Ling was like ten-thousand-year-old ice atop a snow-capped peak.
Cold—so cold that it made people near her unconsciously shiver.
Su Qi's intuition even told her that she might have already been seen through by this white-haired girl.
"You... are called Su Qi?" After looking at Su Qi for a long time, Bai Ling finally spoke. "Little Ya has good taste."
Su Qi's expression gradually became serious. She didn't know whether Bai Ling's words had any hidden meaning, but judging from the feeling this girl gave off, Su Qi believed there was definitely another meaning in what Bai Ling had just said.
"Mm, Little Ya is a very nice girl. I like her very much." Su Qi could only use relatively conservative words to answer Bai Ling's question.
"No need to be so nervous. I don't eat people." Bai Ling tried hard to put on a kind expression, but due to certain issues, her expression... became somewhat nuclear-kind.
This made Su Qi's body even more rigid. She was now considering when to escape.
This white-hair was so scary—even scarier than her sister used to be.
"However, as an older sister, I still need to screen the people around my younger sister." Bai Ling rubbed her face, reluctantly changing that nuclear-kind expression back to her original poker face. "Miss Su Qi, who is not human—do you have ulterior motives in approaching Little Ya?"
"Regarding this point, I can guarantee that I have no bad intentions toward Bai Ya."
