Chapter 15

As I arrived at the company and walked towards my new office, I was taken aback by the sight of Mia sitting on my chair, operating the system like she owned the place. I strode towards her and demanded to know what was going on and why she was in my office.

Mia looked up at me with a smirk and said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you, I will be sharing office with the Rejected Mate. It makes me feel like I am not important, just like you." She curve the corner of her lips.

I felt a surge of anger rising inside me, but I tried to keep my cool. I couldn't believe she still continue to be so disrespectful to me, especially considering the fact that she was just a subordinate.

But before I could say anything, I heard a voice behind me. "Mia, what the hell do you think you're doing?"

I turned around to see my boss, Derick, standing there with a look of fury on his face. Mia's expression changed immediately as she realized she had been caught.

"What's the problem, Derick?" she asked, trying to sound innocent.

"The problem is that you called her the Rejected Mate," Derick said, gesturing towards me. "Do you have any idea how disrespectful that is?"

Mia rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on, Derick. She is a rejected mate, isn't she? And she's just trying to milk us for all we're worth."

I felt my blood boil as she spoke those words, but Derick's expression was even more intense. He stepped closer to Mia and said in a low, menacing voice, "You will never, and I mean never, call her that again. She is a member of our company, and she deserves our respect."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Derick had never stood up for me before, and now he was defending me against Mia's insults? It was a strange feeling, but also a welcome one.

Mia didn't back down, though. "Why are you even on her side? After what the Black Bird wolves did to us, she could be working for them. She was banished from her own pack, for crying out loud! So the black bird wolves should be after her not us!."

I was stunned inside me, but did not show it out. To hear that black bird wolves attacked Derick and his pack. But why, thought Blake was the one that threaten to attack them.

Although I felt a pang of pain at Mia's words, which makes me not to care about who attacked them. Yes, it was true that I had been banished from my pack, but she should stop slamming it at my face always. I had never wanted to be banished, but Leah betrayer, disorganized me to do what I shouldn't have done.

Derick didn't hesitate to set the record straight, though. "She was banished unjustly, Mia. And she's been nothing but loyal to us since she joined our company. So I suggest you show her the respect she deserves, or you'll be out of here faster than you can say 'rejected mate'."

Mia huffed and crossed her arms over her chest, but she didn't say anything more. Derick gave her one last warning glare before turning to me and saying, "I'm sorry you had to deal with that, Sophia, I hope you understand why she's like that. You're a valuable member of our company, and don't you ever forget it.

I nodded, feeling grateful for his support. It was a strange start to my new position, but at least now I knew where I stood with my boss. And as for Mia, well...let's just say I will continue to keep a close eye on her from now on.

As soon as Derick left, I knew I had to make a point with Mia. I couldn't let her disrespect me and get away with it, especially since I was now her boss.

So I walked up to her and told her in no uncertain terms that I was her superior and she needed to listen to me. I ordered her to bring me all the company account files right away, without delay.

Mia's eyes blazed with anger, but she knew better than to argue with me now that Derick was on my side. She stormed out of my office, slamming the door behind her.

I sat down at my desk and waited for her to return. It didn't take long for someone else to come in with the files, but I wasn't satisfied. I sent the person back and told them to ask Mia to bring the files to me herself.

A few minutes later, Mia walked back into my office with the files in her hands. She threw them on my desk and glared at me. "Here are your stupid files," she spat.

I didn't say anything, just looked at her with a cool, calm expression. It was time to show her that I wasn't going to put up with her disrespect anymore.

"Mia," I said in a firm voice. "I know we've had our differences in the past, but I expect you to treat me with the respect that comes with my new position in this company. I won't tolerate any more insults or insubordination from you."

Mia's expression softened slightly, but I could tell she was still angry. "Fine," she said through gritted teeth. "I'll do my job, but don't expect me to be nice to you."

As Mia was about to leave my office, I stopped her and demanded an apology for her disrespectful behavior. But to my surprise, Mia refused.

"I will never apologize to you," she said, her voice laced with venom. "You don't deserve my respect."

I could feel my anger rising, but I knew I couldn't let her get the best of me. "Mia," I said firmly. "As your superior in this company, I expect you to apologize for your behavior. You need to show me the respect that comes with my position."

Mia's eyes narrowed, and I could see the defiance in her face. "I will not apologize," she repeated.

But I wasn't going to let her get away with it. I stood up from my chair and walked towards her, determined to make her see reason.

"I'm not asking for much," I said. "Just a simple apology to show that you understand the importance of treating your colleagues with respect."

Mia hesitated for a moment, but then she shook her head. "I'm not going to apologize," she said. "And you'll regret making me."

I could tell she was serious, but I refused to back down. "I won't regret anything," I said firmly. "And I won't tolerate any more disrespect from you. As long as I am your superior in this company, you will show me the respect that I deserve."

With that, Mia stormed out of my office, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I knew that I had made an enemy in her, but I was also determined to earn her respect and prove myself as a worthy leader in this company.

As I sat down at my desk and started going through the files, I felt that I needed to empty my bladder. I stood up and make use of the rest room, and when I came back, my hand bag looks like it was temper with. But I did not pay attention to it.

I picked up my hand bag, and ready to leave. Walking to the exist door, I couldn't believe what had just happened. Mia had deliberately bumped into me, causing my handbag to fall and all my belongings to scatter on the floor. It was clear that she was trying to embarrass me in front of everyone in the office.

I could feel the anger rising inside of me, but I tried to remain calm. I didn't want to give Mia the satisfaction of seeing me lose my cool.

Instead, I calmly bent down and started picking up my things, ignoring the stares of my colleagues. It was humiliating, but I refused to let Mia get the best of me.

I noticed something had caught up the attention of others, among my stuff that fell off. Curious, I looked around to see what had caught their attention. And that's when I started hearing an echo, a leg approaching me, and pick up the black danger that fell from my bag.

My heart sank as I thought what could that be, how did it get into my bag.

I felt a lump form in my throat as Derick held up the black dagger, his eyes burning with anger.

"Whose is this?" he demanded, his voice low and menacing.

I stared at the dagger, feeling a cold sweat break out on my forehead. I didn't know what to say. I had no idea how that dagger had ended up in my bag.

"I...I don't know," I stammered, trying to keep my voice steady.

But Derick wasn't buying it. "Don't lie to me," he growled. "This dagger belongs to the Black Bird Wolves pack. How did it end up in your possession?"

I shook my head, feeling a rising sense of panic. I had no explanation for how the dagger had gotten into my bag. I had never seen it before.

"Mia!" Derick called out, his voice echoing through the hallway. "Come here!" I'm sure Derick called Mia because we both share office together.

Mia stepped closer to us, a smirk on her face. "What is that, boss?" she asked, her eyes flicking towards the dagger in Derick's hand.

"Do you know anything about this?" Derick asked, holding up the dagger.

Mia's expression turned to one of surprise. "No, I don't," she said. "Wait, is that not a dagger from the Black Bird Wolves pack? Because it's carries their seal embosser."
